The Stafford County Board of Supervisors agreed Tuesday to advertise a public hearing that could ultimately lead to haulers being forced to take county trash to the Rappahannock Regional Landfill. The landfill, which serves Stafford and Fredericksburg, has nearly reached its capacity and continues toward quickly needing its next solid waste cell. In order to pay for the cell, the Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board recommended that supervisors move toward enacting flow-control measures to ensure that solid waste be delivered to the landfill instead of other facilities that haulers may find cheaper. The R-Board operates the regional landfill, located on Eskimo Hill Road in Stafford. Supervisors did not yet set a date for the public hearing. The requirement will end up costing residents more money to use local trash haulers, according to Stafford Supervisor Cord Sterling, R-Rock Hill. But Stafford Supervisor Paul Milde, R-Aquia, who sits on the R-Board, said that the move is necessary. County staff estimated that 30,000 tons per year of solid waste originating in Stafford and Fredericksburg are being diverted to other landfills. The R-Board increased tipping fees for commercial haulers by 5 percent last year. Also at the meeting, the board: BOS ■ deferred a reclassification rePAGE 15 quest on a proposal for a
