New H-B Woodlawn to Be Field-Less for a Time Under Pending Agreement, Land Will Be Used For Construction of Temporary Fire Station in Rosslyn SCOTT McCAFFREY Staff Writer
Taxpayers may be the winners but students at the future H-B Woodlawn Secondary Program will be the losers – at least temporarily – under a revised plan to develop what’s become known as the
“WRAPS” parcel in western Rosslyn. Under an agreement between the Arlington County government and publicschool system detailed earlier this month, a temporary fire station would be constructed at the corner of North Quinn Street and 18th Street North, remaining in place until a permanent station was
completed. That means that, from the time the new H-B Woodlawn opens in late 2019 until 2021 at the earliest, students will not have access to an on-site athletic field. That eventuality “is not our favorite,” School Board Vice Chairman Barbara Kanninen acknowledged. But, she said, it

Arlington moves on to the Southeast Regional Tournament. See coverage of the tournament action inside in Sports.

When the memorial to Arlington’s World War I dead was dedicated in the 1930s, few likely gave any notice to how the names were arranged. But with the community set to embark on a local commemoration of what was dubbed, alas erroneously, as the “war to end all wars,” some want to see a change in how the county’s 13 World War I dead are listed. The plaque on the memorial, located in Clarendon, has 10 names of Army and Navy personnel killed in 1917 and 1918. There are then two blank spaces, followed by the names of Arthur Morgan and Ralph Lowe underneath. Before their branch of service (Army in each case), Morgan and Lowe are described as “Colored” – one of the last vestiges of a segregationist past that Arlington, and
