HEALTH SYSTEM 10:30 A.M.: REIKI HEALING FOR THE CAREGIVER (AND THOSE THEY CARE FOR) PRESENTER: CINDY WALDMAN The caregiver, whether a professional or a relative, shoulders the burden of responsibility for another human’s comfort. Sometimes the responsibility can be overwhelming, and the caregiver suffers, often causing the recipient of the care to suffer as well. Reiki is an amazingly effective therapy for reducing stress, anxiety and pain and works for the caregiver as much as for the memory-impaired (people with Alzheimers or dementia) and people suffering from chronic pain. Cindy Waldman is a certified reiki master, teacher and practitioner. While living in Venezuela in the early 1990s, she began working with alternative techniques for stress management, deep relaxation and consciousness exploration using sound and light technology. In 2010, she opened a small reiki practice in Woodbridge. Through her practice, Dance of Light Healing, she hopes to help people feel refreshed and rejuvenated, physically, mentally and emotionally. 11 - 11:30 A.M.: THE GREAT ESCAPE, FUN WAYS TO GET AWAY WITH UNIQUE TRAVEL PRESENTER: ANDREA SAVITCH, OWNER, UNIQUE TRAVEL EVENTS Travel is medicine for the heart, mind and soul. This session will cover some different types of travel – good and not so good based on your needs – some destinations that are easy or offer challenges, as well as seasonal choices. Andrea Savitch is the owner of Unique Travel Events, a full-service travel company. She has over a decade of experience working with travelers as individuals, families and groups. Andrea’s travel experience has taken her to six continents and over a dozen countries. 11:30 A.M. - NOON: GETTING CREATIVE & ACTIVE WITH ARTFACTORY

SENTARA WOUND HEALING CENTER The Sentara Wound Healing Center is here for you! At some point in our lives, we’ve all had a cut, graze or burn, but, sometimes a wound doesn’t heal as we’d like. Chronic, non-healing wounds can have serious health consequences and may adversely affect your quality of life. At a Sentara Wound Healing Center, healing wounds is our main focus. Our team of experienced wound-healing specialists will work with you and your physician to assess your symptoms, determine the underlying cause of your non-healing wound, and customize the most effective treatment plan to stimulate healing. Our treatment plans are designed to complement the care your own physician provides, ensuring your healthcare team is always working together to provide the treatment that is right for you. To make an appointment with our wound healing experts, call (703) 5230660 or visit sentara.com/wound.
GREAT FALLS ASSISTED LIVING As we look back over our lives, it’s our experiences that define who we are. While dementia may slowly erode a person’s cognitive skills, the core of a person’s identity and passions remain. The details of the past can be harder to recall, but the ability to be genuinely happy and purposeful in the moment is ever-present. So, when it comes to memory care in a community setting, the delivery of daily care must be as one-of-a-kind as the people receiving it. At Great Falls Assisted Living, the associates collaborate with families to learn every detail about the resident and when presented with a request from residents or families, instead of saying, “No,” associates say, “Why not?” and try to give people back the lives they used to love – the aspects of them that their families thought were gone for good. For information on Great Falls Assisted Living, call (571) 250-6441 or visit www.TheArtisWay.com/Transition
