THE BEATLES.

All you need is love, dress rehearsal...

Book & Poster Design.

The all you need is love dress rehearsal, is a designed publication for client Tracks Ltd, which features unseen photographs and the story to mark its 30th Anniversary. It consists of clean designed pages, along with hand drawn type using brush and ink throughout, which was inspired by a message painted by Paul at the time for his Aunt in Australia to see, when it was being broadcasted live, as well as a tip of the hat to Gerald Scarfe.

BOO!

Gothic & Horror Magazine...

Brand Identity./ Editorial Magazine Design./ OOH Advertising/Poster Designs./ Digital/Web Concept.

A newly designed high-end, editorial style gothic & horror magazine, along with brand identity collateral. It will feature art, movies, culture, books, fashion & music, set within the gothic horror and genre. I came up with name after a lot of research etc and amongst many options etc, the word Boo is the only word I came across or found that was an expression from another human that could conjure up a feeling to do with horror or the feeling/reaction you might get from another human saying it, hence it being an appropriate magazine title, which is in it self a direct communication from other humans for that sole purpose. The brand name (upper case BOO!) I gave it a twist by reflecting it but still visually it would still seem correct, apart from the exclamation mark! You could barely tell, but gives it that slight eerie ghostly feel or a reflection in a window or the moon in a lake etc. The exclamation mark has been manipulated to give it a slight gothic staff, dagger or quill like feel along with a moon shape added also to give it a little more character to a simple traditional typeface used, without using over the top gore type faces that are often seen or predictable.

CREATION.

Fashion that lasts forever...

Catalogue/Logo Design./ Advertising Posters & Web Design.

This project was a proposed 94 page fashion catalogue along with homeware; it has a vintage/bohemian theme throughout, but designed with a modern twist. The name/identity started as a biblical idea which led onto the concept that garments are all (created) from raw materials and that the assets would stand the test of time, as all fashion goes in a complete circle, hence the strap line I choose to use with it. The brief also comprised of researching a target audience and its market place, photographic shoot plan, teams/costing, location selection, model selection & production, as well as creative layouts with sourced imagery.

GLOBAL TRAVEL. Travel Agency & Consultants...

Brand Identity/Logo Design./ OOH Advertising/Poster Designs. & Digital/Web Concept Design.

The final design branding for this project, works both as a stand alone visual graphic/logo that encompasses both the initials of the company GT, and a direct connection to all travel past and present, a Compass! This would also work along side the fonts chosen for the company name and info etc. I had the idea for mixing both modern and traditional elements somehow for the look and feel on this brief, and on researching I came across an oil painting by Sir Nathaniel Dance-Holland-1776 of the Greatest British travellers, explorers, navigators, cartographers of our time....Captain James Cook 1728-1779, which was an intriguing, eye catching image and would work perfectly for the advertising, along with the strapline ‘an inspiration to every traveller’ as well as various others, which in turn inspired me further to go down the route of, modern meets traditional concept for it, this also implied to the colours chosen which would also follow throughout the whole campaign.

INSIDE THE MIND OF SALVADOR DALI. Exhibition Promotion...

Brand Identity./ Exhibition/Advertising Posters./ Merchandise & Guide Book Design.

This is a self-initiated project creating a unique brand identity & promotional material for a new exhibition starting at the DalĂ Theatre-Museum, his last masterpiece, and in his birth and death place of Figueres, Catalonia, it will then tour from city to city, included as part of the exhibition will be designed print posters, a catalogue guide book, merchandise, website etc. I manipulated (Anagram) typeface which i thought suited, as it was bold and quirky, it had these curls on certain faces which I quite liked, and was a bit of a gift, I twisted them round and flipped them to look like his famous moustache combined it with a simple sans face (LiteraEF) to complement it. The posters will develop and will be a varied range that can be purchased some will come as a pair using the the red and gold of the Catalan flag in his honour. This is a first time DalĂ exhibition exploring and explaining the ideas and thought process behind his art, along with an insightful look into his inspirations and creative passion stemming from the early, the surreal through to the classical years of his great life and work.

THE BEATLES. In Germany...

Book Design.

This designed book of rare black & white photographs taken during their 1966 tour, for client Tracks Ltd, features the story, starting from the early days in Hamburg 1962, with text from their former press officer Tony Barrow, there was also a matt laminated box set version consisting of a original piece of stage from The Star Club with a signed certificate of authenticity, and limited to 1,000 copies, all wrapped in simulator paper and sealed by a Beatles in Germany sticker. I designed the cover with neat boxed multi layered shots of them performing, butting up and overlapping each other to give the feel of a modern pin board or holiday snap shots, as its a book about them being on tour abroad, good old helvetica font was used for the most part, including all the body copy, but I choose the not so pretty Slalam script font also, as a lot of posters and signage etc. in Germany at that time had that look and feel to them, the layouts I put together are minimal and sparse with small placed blocks of copy leaving plenty of space and attention for the shots.

EVE NADAM.

In the beginning fashion was simple!...

Catalogue./ Brand Identity./ Advertising Posters & Website Design.

This project was to be an up market boutique book split equally 50/50, for men & women. As it’s prodomantly a female market, I came up with the idea and concept Even Adam. My aim is that the male customer will have an equal interest in style, fashion and design as the female customer. Everybody is probably familiar with the story of Adam & Eve. I was interested in the idea of taking things back to the beginning, that's why the front covers have a stylish and tasteful semi naked shot of a woman on one side and a man on the other. It was intended to be a inspirational, relaxed and a accessible browse. The book begins with waking up, getting pampered and then gradually getting dressed with maybe a middle section of baby, home or even gadgets.

GUITAR MUSEUM. Promotion...

Poster Design./ Illustration./ Logo.

This was a self-initiated/proposed design piece for a Guitar Museum, for which I produced a poster/identity for promotional use. The idea and concept was for it to be experimental and almost abstract with a modern psychedelic twist, as during this time I was listening to a lot of Hendrix so approached it like he was playing, as well as being influenced by Denny Dent, who did the painting of him on the opening scene to Jimi plays Monterey film in 1967. So with the unorthodox use of silkscreen paint, brushes and sticks, I created numerous paintings along with hand drawn type/logo which was silk screened after, and a little simple typography for the details, this was my chosen piece.

BEGBIES TRAYNOR. Corporate Rescue & Recovery...

Brochure & Postcard Design.

This brief was to design a company brochure knowing the origins of the firm dated back to 1837, so the literature that needed producing had to reflect their stature and be sophisticated and corporate, but without looking old fashioned. The main elements and concept was to have appropriate thought provoking imagery, along with famous quotes we choose throughout, plus, new photography was shot of the beautifully sculpted architecture of their buildings, and the companies partners etc. that mixed with a classic serif font, simple typography and clean layouts to me shows quality, and respectability for the position they hold in their field. The brochure also has a back pocket which holds designed inserts of photographed partners and their offices, from all over the country. In addition, a folded A4 RSVP invitation postcard was produced with suitable straplines, drawn graphics, and a sourced image, to be sent out to their clients/companies.

TIGER FISH. Public Relations...

Corporate Identity./ Illustration.

The clients brief was for us to create something different that would stand out in the crowd and compete with the big fish, the name had been chosen and the rest was left for us to interpret her vision. It was obvious to me that a little fish was going to be involved and wanted it to be animated and appear in different ways across the identity, so I approached it in a 2d, hand drawn with flat colours in a simplified tiger like pattern, I gave it teeth and speech/volume marks for it to seem loud (as to be heard above the noise) which was appropriate for this business, the strap line came next which worked well with the bitten business card, along with a simple but different sans font for the headers, etc. which tied it all together.

ART DIRECTION. Location & Studio...

Photoshoots./ Photography.

During my working life as a graphic designer I’ve been involved with photography in some form or other, whether it’s studio based shoots, or organising and arranging still life, for fashion/accessories or home and interiors, but for the most part, location photoshoots have been at the forefront, assisting, overseeing, planning, as well as the art directing and shot selection, teaming up with numerous photographers over the years, including stylists, hair & makeup, models and production companies, in various locations e.g. Miami Beach, Palma, Brighton, London & Leeds, with the aim for everyone involved being the same, to fulfil the brief thats required.
