Walking and cycling in the park Most of the pathways in the park are well surfaced making them suitable for wheelchairs and buggies, family cycling, walking and running. The park has won awards for the high standard of accessibility for its trails which have been designed to be fully accessible for all users. This sign indicates that the path is for shared use and pedestrians have right of way. Paths which don’t have this sign are for pedestrians only. In most cases towpaths are not public rights of way but routes can be used by the public with the permission of the landowner. Permission to use the towpath is given to walkers and cyclists on a long term basis by British Waterways.

Lee Valley Pathway Lee Valley Pathway was launched in 1996 to provide a combined use cycling and walking route for the entire length of Lee Valley Regional Park, from Ware in Hertfordshire to East India Dock Basin at the River Thames. Providing direct links to most of the park’s venues and to the site of the London 2012 Olympic Games, the pathway winds its way through 25 miles of the Lee Valley’s hugely diverse landscape. From spectacular hill-top vistas, to wetlands, rivers and lake-side, woodland, farmland and industrial heritage environments.
Lea Valley Walk This path offers 50 miles of traffic-free walking, tracing the route of the River Lea from its source at Leagreave near Luton to where it meets the Thames. The walk undergoes a fascinating metamorphosis from rural pathway to urban trail.
Cycle hire There’s cycle hire at Broxbourne Old Mill & Meadows in Hertfordshire, contact them on 07837 786 701 for more information.
