Showzam! Carnival Ball
The Ballroom, The Blackpool Tower Join acclaimed comedian and compare Jonny Woo at the Showzam! Carnival Ball in the splendour of The Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Saturday 14 February. You’ll be treated to a taste of the acts from across the festival with performances from South American circus stars Circolombia, French hair sculptor Mysterieuses Coiffures, one-woman rollercoaster Abi Collins and many more besides. Have your dancing feet on and enjoy live music from infectious band Kumpania Algazarra flying in from Portugal with Balkan rhythms and melodies blended with tropical heat, dance beats and hip-hop. You won’t be able to stop yourself from dancing, plus über cool DJs, The Broken Hearts, to round off the night. The theme for the Ball is “romance through the ages” so get your glad rags on to be in with a chance of winning the prize for best dressed on the night. Canadian madmen and brothers of bodily abuse, the great Orbax & Sweet Pepper Klopek combine amazing feats and mind-blowing stunts with cheeky off the cuff slapstick for a show that can only be described as a ‘two-man demolition derby’. Experience a terrifying nightmare from your own intimate perspective. Are little girls to be trusted? Are you watching or being watched? The Little Box of Horrors will have you clinging to your seat with dread. Step inside if you dare… Outside The Box, watch as the performers dart, creep and shift into position bringing the sinister tale and disturbing images to life. A dainty setup filled with delightful accessories, Christophe Pavia transforms you into a countess for the day. His world, reminiscent of Tim Burton’s, transports us through the looking glass, inviting us to enter into the weird, the wonderful and the unknown.

L’ Hotel has parked ceremoniously at its latest destination....... The only hotel to come to you! The “smallest hotel in the world”: beds are made, tables laid, chambermaids roused, bell boys leap into action and finally the special guests arrive and are ushered up the red carpet to their luxury accommodation. Acrobatics, globe walking, dead celebrities, French finesse, trumpeting and mime mayhem make this an enchanting show to delight an audience of any age or nationality.

Cast off your shoes and squeeze into a true-to-life 50ft (18m) inflatable Sperm Whale. Enclosed in a lobster-net fence and guarded by a nosy Fish Wife, brave swashbucklers are led into its belly, revealing a lavishly decorated seascape interior. Once inside they encounter a shipwrecked Pirate with a treasure tale to tell and a real live Mermaid with a haunting siren’s song and an intriguing secret.

Close Act (Netherlands) Saurus
Prepare to hide as Blackpool is invaded by Sauruses. Presumed to be extinct, but nonetheless the biggest beasts that ever walked the earth return to the 21st century. Charging through the crowds with a deafening roar, the Sauruses seek out food to calm their hunger. People jump swiftly out of their way having never seen such giant beasts before. There is a widespread sigh of relief as the Sauruses start eating plant life. Ah vegetarians!

Meet Pete Sweet, a man with a mission. In his engaging one-man show, Pete is a combination of an old-fashioned clown and a hilariously witty nerd. Boucherie Bacul is an old fashioned butcher’s market booth, in and around it nothing is what it seems. Inside everything looks grubby and used just like a real butchers but something is missing. The rude Bacul family sell their morbid but above all insane merchandise to the passersby. But to do so, they use very strange techniques. A deliciously dark sideshow comedy, not for the faint-hearted. Belgian Butchers, Pikz Palace prepare their tasty cuts… but there’s not a joint of meat in sight.

The Vegetable Nannies are two everyday gardeners who’ve taken their young vegetables out of the ground for a day trip. His outlandish ideas have made him well-known far beyond the German borders. Mecanocomic combines all his crazy inventions: the high-flyer, the god of the drums, the tuba mobile and the jet fighter. This combination of inventions, his distinctive humour and his spontaneity make this show a real treat and the highlight of every festival.
