WELCOME TO LEGACY
Dear Fellow Eagles:
Welcome to the 2023-24 school year at Legacy Christian Academy!
We are delighted to partner with you in the education of your children, and we look forward to helping you shape their spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical well-being.
In Mark 10:45, God’s Word says, “For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” When we consider the life of Jesus, we notice how He lived out this statement. He did not come to conquer, instead He washed the feet of His disciples, healed the sick, fed the masses, and laid His life down for mankind. He told us in Mark 9:35 that “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.” May we strive this year to truly serve God by serving others. May we instill in our children the importance of serving others both in our homes and in our school.
We are pleased to offer this handy reference guide to help you THRIVE in your journey with us. It should answer many of your questions and provide direction as you learn more about what it means to be a part of “Eagle Nation.” Please note that more information is forthcoming this summer, and we will be updating this publication with additional releases.
Again, welcome to this special community of believers who seek to advance God’s Kingdom by educating and preparing his children to be strong leaders with biblical convictions. Together, we will Thrive at Legacy.
In His grace, Head of School
KEVIN MOSLEY HEAD OF SCHOOL"WE ARE DELIGHTED TO PARTNER WITH YOU IN THE EDUCATION OF YOUR CHILDREN, AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO HELPING YOU SHAPE THEIR SPIRITUAL, INTELLECTUAL, EMOTIONAL, AND PHYSICAL WELL-BEING."

Communication: Teachers will share a weekly newsletter that will include learning objectives for the week, home connections, and reminders. Teachers will also use Seesaw to post pictures and work from the classroom. Seesaw will also be used as our learning platform in case of school closure. Parents are also welcome to email teachers.
EARLY LEARNING GRADES PRE-K 3 - KINDERGARTEN
EARLY PICKUP AND LATE DROP OFF
If you need to pick up or drop off your child outside of carline time, you must park and sign in with the receptionist.
WHAT TO BRING
Each child will need to bring a backpack that is large enough to carry a lunchbox, nap blanket, water bottle, snacks, and a folder. Please do not send a “toddler size” backpack. Rolling backpacks are not permitted. Your child will also need a change of clothes. Please make sure all clothing items and outerwear are labeled.
Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 will need a small blanket for rest time. For the 2023-2024 school year, all blankets must be brought home and washed weekly.
EARLY LEARNING GRADES PRE-K 3 - KINDERGARTEN
LUNCH & SNACK
Each child has the option to bring his or her own lunch, drinks, and snack. Classes will eat lunch in their classroom. Please provide all necessary utensils for your child’s food (napkins, spoons, etc.). You may also purchase a lunch for your child on Tuesdays and Thursdays. More information will be emailed prior to the first day of school on how to order meals.
We request that healthy items are sent for lunch and snacks. Red drinks are not permitted. Please cut and peel any fruit, as this allows eating to go smoother.
Heating students’ lunches will not be permitted.
Please label your child’s lunch container with his or her name in case of a mix-up.
You will be notified by the school nurse if your child’s class will be nut-free this school year.
EARLY LEARNING GRADES PRE-K 3 - KINDERGARTEN
WATER BOTTLES
Please send a “pop-top” style water bottle labeled with your child’s name each day. Please do not send bottles with screw lids or a large opening as they tend to spill easily over tables and floors. Brain research indicates that water is essential to the learning process.
TOY POLICY
Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 may bring a "lovey" for rest time. All other toys and stuffed animals should be kept at home to prevent distractions. Your child may bring a toy and photos for “Show and Tell” during his or her designated time to be the “Star of the Week.”
SAFETY
Safety is our number one priority. All parents and guests are required to present their ID to enter the building and be given a visitor badge. For all large events such as parties, programs, and chapel, please RSVP to your child’s teacher to expedite check-in.

LOWER SCHOOL
GRADES 1 - 4
Homework: Homework is intended to reinforce previously taught skills. Students will have a weekly Bible verse to memorize. One of the best ways parents can help at home is by reading with their children! Specific developmentally appropriate reading books will be sent home for lower grades.
Library books or books from home can also be read. 1st and 2nd-grade students will also be encouraged to practice addition and subtraction facts. 3rd and 4th-grade students will be encouraged to practice multiplication and division facts.
Report Cards: Lower School report cards are shared four times a year with parents. The report cards are rubric based to help parents have a clear understanding of the current skills their child has mastered or is acquiring.

DROP-OFF & PICK-UP INFORMATION
If you need to pick up or drop off your child outside of carline time, you must park and sign in/out in the LCA app and check them in/out with the receptionist.
WHAT TO BRING
Please send a backpack every day, including early dismissal days. Backpacks should not have wheels and should be able to be hung on a hook.
A daily folder/binder with information, communication, notes, etc will be sent home. Please check your child’s backpack daily. Please label all coats/sweatshirts on the label with the child's name so we can reunite items with students.
LOWER SCHOOL GRADES 1 - 4
LUNCH & SNACK
Lower school students eat in the cafeteria daily. You are welcome to come and eat lunch with your child. Parents and special guests will sit at designated tables with your student. Please do not invite other students to eat with you.
All students have a lunch account that money can be added to buy breakfast, lunch, or snacks. It is up to the parents/student to monitor this account. School staff do not monitor this since each family has different “rules” for the meal accounts. Please send utensils in your child’s lunchbox if needed. No microwaveable food, please. Microwaves are reserved for middle school students.
LOWER SCHOOL GRADES 1 - 4
LUNCH & SNACK (continued)
Each classroom will have a designated snack time. We encourage healthy, non-messy snacks since snacks will be eaten in the classrooms near learning materials. Appetites usually go up at the end of the day so protein and healthy carbs are encouraged.
Some classes will be “nut-free” based on allergies. Our Lower School nurse will make these decisions based on class lists. Lunch may not be delivered by outside services. Parents are welcome to drop off lunch for students. Please label the lunch/drink with student's name and teacher's name.
WATER BOTTLES
Please send a “pop-top” style water bottle labeled with your child’s name each day. Please do not send bottles with screw lids or a large opening as they tend to spill easily over tables, floors, and technology resources. Brain research indicates that water is essential to the learning process.
LOWER SCHOOL GRADES 1 - 4
ITEMS FROM HOME
All toys, electronics, and stuffed animals should be kept at home to prevent distractions. Teachers will inform you of times when items from home may be brought to school such as “Show and Tell.” Lower School students follow the LCA cell phone policy. Students may not use cell phones or other electronic devices (including smart watches) from home throughout the day.
LOST AND FOUND
Our Lower School lost and found is located in the hallway by the gym/cafeteria. Parents are welcome to come and look for items at any time after checking in at the front desk. Items that are labeled are reunited by staff with students once a week.
SAFETY
Safety is our number one priority. All parents and guests are always required to present your ID to enter our building and be given a visitor badge. For all large events such as parties, programs, chapel, please RSVP to expedite checkin.
