From 8 years old to 80, playing keeps us all happy and healthy and we have an abundance of great places to play throughout our region.

Legacy Parks Foundation is an East Tennessee nonprofit that works to expand our parks, connect our trails, and preserve our incredible natural resources. We’re bringing you this guide to make it easy for you to Get Out and Play—with over 122 parks, more than 160 miles of trails and greenways, and dozens of navigable rivers and streams —the opportunities are endless!

Northwest Greenway makes a loop around the park’s soccer fields, tennis courts, roller hockey court and green space then connects to Victor Ashe Park.

POWELL HIGH LANDING

Powell Drive and Brickyard Road

Provides parking and an adaptive kayak launch behind Powell High School for access to the Knox County Water Trail on Beaver Creek. Next takeout point on the creek is Roy Arthur Stormwater Park, which also has an adaptive dock.

Offers a baseball field, three multipurpose fields, an 18-hole disc golf course, a dog park and a walking loop that connects to Tommy Schumpert Greenway.

Natural Trail: 1.5-mile loop

Features paved and natural surface trails, 4 soccer fields, 2 sand volleyball courts, an 18-hole disc golf course, a playground, fishing pond and dog park, making it a one-stop destination for recreation.

Offers two off-leash area for dogs, one reserved for small dogs under 30 pounds and another open to dogs of any size, which includes a pond with a dock.

DOGWOOD DOG PARK AT VICTOR ASHE PARK

Beautiful hardwoods surround this 1-acre off-leash dog park where canine friends can enjoy ramps, tunnels and jumps then refresh at the doggy fountain.

Paved Trail: 1.1-mile loop

Sue Clancy Greenway within Adair Park features a series of loops that wind through open spaces, swings and a bridge over a duck pond. Crossing Adair Drive, a greenway extension heads south.

Connects: Caswell Park, Ashley Nicole Dream Playground, Cansler YMCA, Larry Cox Senior Center

Connects: First Creek Park, Fulton High School

The lower section starts in Caswell Park and connects to a playground, senior center and YMCA. The upper section runs through First Creek Park and connects to the Broadway Avenue sidewalk and Fulton High.

Connects: Halls Community Park, Halls Branch Library

A scenic path along Beaver Creek that connects Halls Community Park with the Halls Branch Library and adjacent neighborhoods.

MAPLE DRIVE GREENWAY

A small walking loop adjacent to the Fountain City Skatepark and dog park.

PLEASANT RIDGE GREENWAY

Connects: Northwest Middle School, Northwest Greenway, Victor Ashe Greenway, Victor Ashe Park

The greenway runs parallel to Pleasant Ridge Road, providing a safe path from Northwest Middle School to Victor Ashe Park.

Connects: Powell Station Park, Powell High School, Powell Middle School

Running parallel to Emory Road, this greenway provides a safe route from neighborhoods to parks, schools and shops.

BAKER CREEK PRESERVE

Natural Trail: 7.3 miles

Offers five multi-use trails, 3 mountain bike downhill trails, a bike skills area and pump track. Baker Creek Play Forest is an adventure play space targeted to middle school aged children.

Large park offers access to the Tennessee River and natural trails exploring the woods and ridgelines, making this a great adventure park. The Maryville Pike entrance has a playground, picnic shelter and dog park.

Waterfront park offers a ballfield, tennis/pickleball court, playground, picnic facilities, and a walking loop connecting Will Skelton Greenway.

Offers multi-use trails that drain well during wet weather conditions, users can connect to this park via the Red Bud Crest trail at Baker Creek Preserve (primary entrance for wet weather riding).

Small park along the Tennessee River on the Knox Blount Greenway that offers a boat launch, shoreline access and a picnic area across the bridge from the parking lot.

Primitive park features Civil War history and inspiring views of downtown Knoxville from the bluffs high above the Tennessee River, unmarked nature trails and two ponds for fishing.

This park near downtown hugs the shore of the Tennessee River and features a festival lawn, playground, adaptive kayak launch, shelter and scenic picnic area.

Within I.C. King Park, this 2-acre dog park includes separate sections for large and small dogs, benches, shelter, and a water fountain.

Spans from the south side of the J.E. “Buck” Karnes Bridge and ends at Marine Park, following the shoreline of Cherokee Farm above the Tennessee River and connecting downtown via the Neyland Greenway. Connects: Neyland Greenway, Cherokee Farm, Marine Park

Natural Trail: 1 mile one-way Natural walking trail surrounding the historic homestead of Tennessee’s first Governor John Sevier, ideal for birdwatching and wildlife viewing.

Paved Trail: 0.7 miles one-way Greenway begins at Vestal Gateway Park and follows Goose Creek through Mary Vestal Park to end at the South Knoxville Community Center.

Located downtown, this park sits at the corner of Summit Hill Drive and Gay Street and features a large art sculpture and green space.

DANNY MAYFIELD PARK

Neighborhood park features an outdoor classroom and art gallery displaying African art, plenty of open space for field sports, playground, outdoor fitness stations, gazebo and a sidewalk.

DR. WALTER HARDY PARK

2020 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue • 3.3 acres

Serves as a memorial site for Doctors Row, honoring black physicians who served the community between 1869 and 1989, including a quiet walkway and amphitheater for cultural activities.

Bicentennial Dock Explore the Tennessee River and check out downtown Knoxville from a different perspective as you paddle past downtown, Neyland Stadium and the Vol Navy marina. Features 30+ miles of trail for hikers, trail runners, and equestrians, a mountain bike skills area and pump track, and 5 miles of shoreline, all connected to the 5.7-mile Melton Lake Greenway.

JOHNSON RIDGE SMALL WILD AREA

Located on Cherokee Reservoir, features scenic overlooks and a 1.7-mile loop trail along the shoreline that provides access to rustic campsites and shoreline fishing.

Located on Watts Bar Lake, features two playgrounds, tennis, basketball and sand volleyball courts, boat ramps and docks. The 3.8-mile Betty Brown Memorial Walking Trail connects to Fort South West Point Park.

Located on Watts Bar Lake and known as the Park “Between the Bridges” features an accessible kayak launch, gazebo, and a fishing peninsula.

Park next to Fort Loudon Dam and Marina features a playground, picnic area, beach volleyball, a 3.3-mile greenway features a waterfall, and a boat ramp for paddling and fishing.

Features a 400-foot bluff overlooking the French Broad River, 30 acres of mature forest skirting Douglas Lake, and a 1.2-mile trail with views of the Smoky Mountains located on the Douglas Dam Reservation near entrance to the campground.

Cutting through 11 Tennessee counties, the Justin P. Wilson Cumberland Trail State Park follows a line of ridges and gorges from Cumberland Gap to the Tennessee River Gorge. Trail is still under construction but will extend over 330 miles when complete.

EAST LAKESHORE NATIONAL RECREATIONAL TRAILS

Greenback, TN

Scenic linear trail system skirts the eastern shoreline of Tellico Lake, consisting of ten interconnected trails that stretch almost 30 miles, with 28 bridges across many streams and coves, and several boat landings for paddlers.

LOYSTON POINT TRAILS

Over 23 miles of multi-use trails hugging the shore of Norris Lake and ascending to the ridge with great views of the river, the Cumberland and Smoky Mountains. Offers water access for swimming, fishing, and paddling, and camping is available. Connects: Hemlock Bluffs Small Wild Area, Norris Lake, Loyston Point Campground

NORRIS SONGBIRD TRAIL STATE WILDLIFE OBSERVATION AREA

Nearly 30 miles of trails snake over the hills and along the shoreline, a mix of singletrack and old roads with foot traffic only trails and trails for mountain biking and equestrians. Connects: Norris Lake, Norris Dam State Park, Norris Songbird Trail State Wildlife Observation Area, River Bluff Small Wild Area Trails

NORTH BOUNDARY TRAIL

Trailhead: Oak Ridge Turnpike at West Guard House 16 miles of singletrack and gravel paths pass through ridge-top woodlands, bluffs, creek-side habitats, remnants of early settlements, a quarry lake and old cemeteries. Parking available at the guard house and East Quarry Road Trail.

NORTH RIDGE TRAIL

101 Endicott Lane

This 7.8-mile National Recreation Trail traverses ridge-side woodland and creeks and offers excellent wildflower and wildlife viewing.

VEE HOLLOW TRAILS

271 Stables Drive, Townsend 14-mile trail network with beginner to expert trails, four riding zones, skills area, demo flow trails, jump trails, and the mountain trails.

WINDROCK MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS

Downhill mountain bike course serves as a training ground for professional downhill racers, the machine-built downhill and cross-country trails are all rated difficult to extreme and geared towards expert riders.

WORTHINGTON CEMETERY TRAIL

93-101 Oak Ridge Turnpike

Located in Elza Gate Park and serves as trailhead for Melton Lake Greenway, this scenic trail is noted for its unusual cedar barren habitat, an old cemetery, a pond and a pier that extends into a wetland with over 125 bird species.
