For many city-dwellers, getting up early in the morning seems almost like a luxury and a torturous task at the same time. At least, for me. However, people are aware of the beauty of the sunrise through photos, movies or other experiences, even if they have never actually seen one live. As a photography lover, it would be a shame not to have shot any sunrise pictures in your life. Unlike some very speciallized fields of the hobby, such as bird photography, underwater photography etc, you do not have to be heavily armed with special equipments in shooting the sunrise. All you need is a long distance lens of about 300 to 1000 mm focal length and a tripod. Of course, the longer the focal length the bigger the sun in the piciture can you capture, but it does not stop you from making some good compositions with a shorter lens. One thing to bear in mind, though, is you have to be well positioned and prepared at the right location before the first glimse of Mr. Sun. You have to find out, before hand, exactly where he will come out and when, for the scene changes very rapidly and dramatically ever sinse he sheds his first ray. The colors, the brightness, the contrast, the mood, etc. It is like a costume show, full of vigor, full of glamour. You could be eluded to be hearing a symphonic orchestra playing a preludial fanfare for the new day as the sun climbs on its way. In this album I try to record my observations and feelings during the shooting. I hope you enjoy it.

It was a hazy morning. I arrvied at the bank at about a quarter to 7:00 a.m. It was late, the sun had arisen from the horizon. However, fortunately for me, a thick layer of mist was blocking the sun’s ray behind it and bought me some time to prepare my gear, a Nikon D90 with a 18 - 200mm zoom lens. Several photographers were already at

the scene as I got there. As the sun finally beamed through the mist with a red face we started shooting fanatically. It turned brighter and brighter every second, from red to orange, to glod, to yellow, to blinding white. All happened in just a few minutes.

A small fishing boat passing by added an secondary interest point to the picture. This happens accidentally sometimes. You have to be sensitive to the surroundings as well while you are focusing on your subject.

A lot of objects and activities you may notice in the sky while you are shooting the sun, but not all suit your composition.

The swamp along the bank reflected the sun beam, giving out a sheen of gold color.

The sun rays also dyed over the whole harbor with warm hues.

As the sun rose, the whole harbor woke up again. Boats set sails to the sea to begin work for the new day.

Sometimes you don’t plan what to shoot, it just comes up on your way. This was a lamp-post on the causeway to a nearby park. It glabbed my attention as I followed the sun.

The coast path is a nice place for the residents. People come out here for jogging, cycling, dogging, exercise, fishing, or simply strolling.

I ran into a lovely puppy on the coast-path. Its owner ( a young lady) was so kind that she put it onto a bike for me to take some close-up shots. I must admit I am not a very good animal photographer.

The place would be inundated with people on weekends and holidays. It was too early for business then. 30
