EROTICA AND PHILOSOPHY BY A CREATIVE DUO ‘’WE THINK THAT WE LIVE IN TIME OF HUGE OPPORTUNITY FOR SELF-REALIZATION. There is no dogma and no fashion dictates’’.

ALEKSEY & MARINA 46

Marina and Alexei have been working together since 1998. They are known as the authors of many different exhibitions, installations and performances. They were nominated for Kandinsky Prize for two times. Their works are part of the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Moscow House of Photography, Russian Museum of Decorative Applied and Folk Art, Novosibirsk State Art Museum and many private collections, both in Russia and abroad. When Art and Photography is created by two people together, it has a different sort of affirmation. Art has no words, neither a necessary meaning. Talented art duet Aleksey & Marina - photographer Aleksey Kozlov and fashion designer Marina Khlebnikova - from St. Petersburg, Russia, specialise on art photos and aren’t limited with particular topics. They have worked together since the mid-90’s, gradually their modelphotographer collaboration grew into a co-authorship of two talented artists. In 1989 Alexei Kozlov’s first appearance in mass media was the result of his shining victory at the first National Erotic Photo Pageant. Since 1998 they have been working on the joint project “Photopainting” - Synthesis Photography and Painting. From 2004, the couple have been engaged in image advertising photography, including the annual produce some exclusive photo collection for brands promotional calendars. In their portfolio you could find photos of animals, landscapes, and art nude. In the nu genre the duo is working on the edge of eroticism and psychology, that is why their work so attractive. They believe that nudity itself. A human erotica is in his intellect, feelings and emotions.

MERT ALAS & MARCUS PIGGOTT

mertandmarcus.tumblr.com

THERE ARE SOME PHOTOGRAPHERS THAT ARE SYNONYMOUS WITH HIGH FASHION, LIKE MARIO TESTINO, MARIO SORRENTI, TERRY RICHARDSON, AND OF COURSE, PHOTOGRAPHY DUO MERT AND MARCUS.

Fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, known for their Vogue shoots, started working together in 1994 and have since traveled the world, collaborating on fashion campaigns and working with some of the biggest names in the entertainment and fashion worlds, from Naomi Campbell to Miley Cyrus to Kate Moss in her cover for Playboy. In a field as oversaturated as fashion photography, Mert & Marcus have done the impossible: they’ve developed an invaluable style that’s uniquely their own. With a list of clients and collaborators that reads like a who’s who of fashion, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott are two of the most in-demand photographers working today. Their work, according to the photographers, is fantastical and complex, incorporating elements of strength, beauty, darkness and vulnerability to a glamorous effect. Their aesthetic is highly polished, colour-saturated and hyperreal. “The difference between us and other photographers is that we care a lot about appearance,” says Alas. “We spend most of the time in the make-up and hairstyling rooms”. As art-conscious club kids in the ’90s, they fell backward into fashion, each other’s arms, and, most important, photography. The duo’s discerning, constantly evolving aesthetic makes them coveted among haute-couture magazines and advertisers who give them the freedom to make images without the constraints placed on many of their fellow photographers. When Alas and Piggott met in 1993 at a party on a pier in Hastings, England, they were barely in their twenties, both club kids looking for the next party. Alas, a Turkish emigré who had studied classical music, tells us that before they met, they hadn’t lived much life yet, and that, in effect, growing up together

formed the basis of their f luid working relationship. The first photos the duo submitted to Dazed & Confused made the cover. Lately, Alas and Piggott developed their aesthetic shooting and styling for forward-thinking magazines such as Vogue and W and ads for brands such as Louis Vuitton and Givenchy. “Our job is to create an identity for brands so people can relate to them,” Alas says. “But that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t hold any artistic value within that process.” Kate Moss, a friend and frequent subject, speaks only effusively of the photographers. “I trust them. I would never say ‘I don’t want to do that,’” Moss said. “Lots of people have their idea of what a girl is, whereas when I work with them, it kind of is more playing.” A 2011 Love magazine editorial Alas and Piggott produced called “What Lies Beneath” drew criticism online for bearing an undeniable likeness to photographer Jeff Bark’s haunting series Woodpecker. Their 46-page spread, with its striking similarities in subject, tone, and iconography—and even some props—can be said to expand upon the vision of Berk’s original eight images, with a bigger budget and higher production values. They create images with cameras and computers with help from a small army of digital technicians, retouchers, and art assistants before, during, and after their shoots, obsessing about every detail and finding solutions to every problem that arises. Their shoots boast some of the biggest budgets, most talented collaborators, and hippest inf luences. Having a team allows them the luxury to concentrate on the more artistic decisions to be made on set rather than be bogged down by technical troubleshooting.

FASHION WHEN DENNIS BASSO WAS ONLY 7 YEARS OLD, HE SKETCHED A WOMAN IN A WEDDING GOWN AND SCRIBBLED WHAT HIS CREATION WOULD COST -- A MERE $500,000.

DENNIS BASSO F/W 2017

On a wall in Dennis Basso‘s atelier hangs a sketch of a wedding gown, lovingly drawn and complete with a veil. It was the designer’s first creation, imagined when Basso was just seven years old — a promise of extraordinary things to come. After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology, the New Jersey native began his career humbly in the early 80’s. Three decades later, Basso has flagship stores around the world, from New York to Moscow. His silhouettes and designs are seen on the most fashionable and socially influential women in the world,

no matter their generation. A piece from the Basso collection has become a staple in one’s wardrobe. His attention to detail and design concept for each season allow his collections to make a mark in the world of fashion. Dennis Basso have strong beliefs about quality, integrity, and distinctiveness. Fashion, to him, is a way of life, not a means to an end. “I really always loved fashion, and fashion was always very important to me,” says Basso, who has a way of dramatically lowering and raising the tone of his gravelly

1. Dennis Basso featured open knit turtlenecks in neutral colours in his fall 2017 collection. Layering the peek-a-boo garment with fur coats, silk dresses, and everything in between, Dennis proves that a fishnet garment in a shade that matches your skin has versatility. 2. Known for his fashionable fur coats and luxurious evening wear, the American designer delivered a collection today that his devoted fans (and celebrity clientele) would love. 3. In response to the major shifts in the fashion industry, and the incredible buying power of the millennial generation, pieces that came down today’s runway would also appeal to a younger generation.

One standout evening gown featured a scenic illustration picked out entirely in sequins, including a glittering owl with a charming fur trim around its face, while a black beaded phrase acted as a fun waist cincher. Dennis blew people away with his silhouettes and slim drapings. He layered his pieces with chiffon and velvet in all the right places. 4. When designing his collections, Dennis Basso was inspired by international women who while on romantic journeys embrace moments in life with a carefree mind. 5. For fall, there were some great long evening looks, combining both dresses and furs. The best were the simplest, as some of the fur looks were overwrought — car wash skirts, high slits, crocodile added to broadtail and sable.

voice as he speaks. “I always wanted to be a designer.” Things change at Dennis Basso each season. Especially since he began really designing readyto-wear and giving it as much importance as his furs. In some seasons, one category is stronger and more innovative than the other. For fall, there are some great long evening looks, combining both dresses and furs. Basso said: “The Fall 2017 collection is inspired by the international woman who while on romantic journeys through textured landscapes embraces worldly moments with a carefree mind.” He managed to transform velvet into high-fashion pants, and jackets, and hand-embroidered his gowns dresses and coats with floral

PERFUME AS AN ART FORM www.moresqueparfum.com

Perfume has been cherished as seen as a luxury for centuries. Ancient Greeks, Persians, and Egyptians were among the first to distill flowers, oils and plants to scent themselves and their surroundings. The fact that ancient civilisations kept records of how their perfumes were made suggests that subtle distinctions were made between different concoctions, and that some ingredients were prized more than others. Speaking about exclusive ingredients, we must mention Moresque Parfum, born from a marriage of Italian Style and Arabic Charm - a boutique artisanal brand with exclusive collections destined to people who choose wear exclusive and original scents that are available in limited quantity. It is a relatively new Italian niche brand that was launched in 2015. The company is very strict in using higher concentrations of perfume extracts and more natural ingredients to create an awesome

60

sensation and one of a kind experience each time the fragrance bottle is opened. Handcrafted from beautiful, complex scents that tantalise, entice, and intrigue your senses, it offers unique combinations of varying undertones and overtones to complement your personal preferences. Inspired by Moorish art, architecture, and the splendour of their dynasties, Andrea Thero Casotti, the ‘’nose’’ behind the brand, created four different lines: the determined and audacious Black, ethereal and refined White, creative and sophisticated Art and, launched in 2016, Gold Collection - the epitome of style and aesthetics to wear on your skin, four olfactory jewels captured in bottles painted with pure gold. A real treasure conceived around the concept of splendour which echoes an ideal: one’s accomplishment and breakthrough in life. Every collection is comprised in several fragrances, each in eau de parfum concentration.Three of them also come in matching attar (concentrated perfume oils) strength which Moresque labels as “Esprit de Parfum”. To preserve quality and authenticity, this niche perfume brand makes everything in Italy, from the scents to packaging with the help of expert craftsmen that they employ. It’s decisively a luxury fragrance of high standing and prestige.

Giants are no longer alone, forced to deal with the new levers emerging but able to counteract or contradict those who thought they had said the last word. Perhaps the new prêt-à-porter brands should not grow too much, in order not to lose that innovative freshness, that taste of research or that enthusiasm that still transpires in some of the future levers of the Italian fashion. An excellent example of this contemporary wave is recently emerged prêt-à-porter brand of exclusive clothes collection and accessories with a precise world of reference. Bougeotte, born in 2016, through the work of a talented designer Fayina Fridman – a great creative with a cosmopolitan soul, - focuses on the preciousness of materials and the obsession for the highest quality. Fayina finds inspiration in the female form, with a fusions of structural sensitivity and meticulous attention to detail. In the hands of Fayina Fridman, a dress is so much more than stitched fabric. It’s an exaltation of the female form. A technical masterpiece. A unique vision. In keeping with the current of fashion, there is still an attention paid to sourcing fabrics with integrity. The selection of the finest materials and precious artefacts, is evident in the personality and throughout the history of Bougeotte: from the most sophisticated prêt-à-porter, ultra-exclusive accessories - exquisite new shoes and bags - up to the creation of unique home design pieces, everything is marked by

high and painstaking flight. Aesthetics blends in with a comfortable, never-ending functionality. Silks, cashmere, exotic skins and rich fabrics coexist in collections designed for a demanding public, eager to rediscover the pleasure of luxury, new. The name of the brand - BOUGEOTTE - is a French term that reflects an intense urge for self-development by experiencing the unknown, confronting unforeseen challenges, getting to know unfamiliar cultures, ways of life and behaviours or may be driven by the desire to escape. The desire of leaving the past behind by creating an absolutely new concept that integrates high fashion and the essential dependence of the impeccable quality. To be more precise, BOUGEOTTE expresses the incessant attitude towards the transformation of lines and precious materials. The Bougeotte woman is special for her way of seeing life, yet her style is always impeccable and she never stops striving for depth and unconditional quality. The creative team of the brand choose the Bee as its graphic symbol and icon of a new visual aesthetic, that becomes a real lifestyle. As Bees do, the Bougeotte team recognises the value of hard work, and transforms high quality materials into final products. A whispered luxury ranging

A mix of male and female, tailor-made and eccentric, blend into this new Bougeotte collection designed for today’s women: the double chest turns into a long dress, pants create a smooth silhouette and the travel suit becomes as comfortable as a suit. We must address the special attention to the Bougeotte accessory collection, that infuses rare materials into futuristic design. Cases, purses and clutches of various sizes that Bougeotte calls Titanium “Best Secret Keeper” and that arise from a triumph of unmatched materials and technology that is intertwined with the highest craftsmanship Made in Italy through a creative itinerary. Wise hands, possessors of

unrepeatable knowledge, with patience have made a light and flexible, but at the same time powerful and non-deformable body that contains the leather texture. It is titanium, noble and resistant, which for the first time, with its elaborate and complex machining processes, enters the structure of a purse. Here is the element that marks the difference and introduces, without hesitation, a concept of new luxury. The numbers help to understand the long genesis and the subsequent stages of realisation of these extraordinary and futuristic bags: 533 working hours, 63 different components, 58 people involved in production, 16 artisan workshops, 14 implementation procedures, 12 possible coatings, 6 Models, 5 custom colours, 2 finishes. Finally, only one structural material: titanium. The indisputable prestige of the elements is the link between accessories and clothing capsules, where kimono, cashmere and clothing alternate with shearling or suede suits, mitten pieces or jackets with important skins, such as the crocodile. Bougeotte. In essence the secret: raw material, research and unmatched craftsmanship Made in Italy. 4. Titanium “Best Secret Keeper” Clutch in Black and Gold Galuchat 5. DE FURSAC’S CHIC SPRING www.defursac.fr

De Fursac delivers another chic season of menswear as the French brand reunites with Adrien Sahores. The leading model is front and center for the brand’s spring-summer 2017 campaign and catalogue. Photographer Karim Sadli captures the ultra-sleek outing. De Fursac delivers a bounty of men’s classics as the label bridges the gap between relaxed style and the impeccably tailored lines of its fine suits. Adrien sports several standouts for the season. Timeless wardrobe pieces range from a long-sleeve striped polo and a vacation ready short-sleeve button-down to an essential trench coat. Founded four decades ago by Simon and Bertrand Laufer, Saint-Pierre De Fursac established brand, Monsieur De Fursac has spanned the ages delivering classic menswear to it’s French clientele. In town as much as on screen, where a famous 1982 advertising slot purred its incisive slogan, it became the man’s label. It was an iconic signature which in spite of not surviving the brand’s evolution certainly helped establish its status as one of the main references for masculine chic.

DIGITAL INFORMATION SEAMLESSLY BLENDS INTO OUR PHYSICAL REALITY AS ACTIVE PARTS OF OUR ENVIRONMENT CREATING A MULTIFACETED TALE OF POLO. AN ADRENALINE PUMPING EXPERIENCE TO PROMOTE AN ELITARIAN SPORT THAT NOW BECOME ACCESSIBLE TO A WIDER AUDIENCE.

Milano - #LMpolostory is a storytelling project launched by La Martina that combines social media with traditional communication by aiming to narrate a unique tale through six key digital influencers, unveiling aspects of a polo player’s personal life besides their performance routine. La Martina stands out from the crowd for its dedication to delivering fashion in a most authentic way, skilfully illustrated by influencers along a journey with stopovers in free major European cities. The project took off in Aprile this year in Milan, the capital of design. Milan is synonymous with style, culture, art and an entrepreneurial spirit. The next step will be London, the city where polo organically blends with everyday lifestyle, also plays the role of the European capital of polo. The final project destination, Düsseldorf - a strategic communication and technology hub, as an internationally leading sports city and travel destination of choice for tourists.

DESTINATION MILAN

ELEGANCE

FROM 4 TO 6 APRIL, LA MARTINA DISCOVERED MILAN DURING THE SALONE INTERNAZIONALE DEL MOBILE THROUGH THE EYES OF SIX DIFFERENT SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS: GRESY DANIILIDIS, LUCA MACELLARI PALMIERI, FEDERICA LEONE, FABIO FERRARA, ALEXANDRA LAPP AND OLIVIA COX.

A tale mixing the actual physical environment with digital reality that describes the dynamic events taking place in Lombardy’s main city on the occasion of what turns Milan into a great showcase for Europe and the rest of the world: the Design Week. Two days dedicated for discovery of the city and polo. The first day itinerary included Milan’s historic centre and iconic sights in the afternoon, such as Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Piazza del Duomo and the quadrilateral of fashion, followed by aperitivo drinks. The second day was dedicated to the Argentinian spirit of the maison. Against the beautiful scenery of Milano Polo Club grounds, at the gates of the city, our influencers experienced the thrill of playing polo by taking part in a 3-vs-3-player match, after being taught the basic rules of polo during the afternoon. The day culminated in the Leather Design Night event, hosted by La Martina at LM flagship store on via Verri, followed by a scrumptious meat-based dinner at El Porteño restaurant including asado a la parrilla. Through this innovative digital project – via our influencers and their social media profiles - La Martina wants to open its doors to the new generations by sharing the brand’s passion and genuine communication in an authentic way, completely void of gimmicks or tricks.

POLO IN THE PARK

London will play host to the second stop-over line-up of events, among which, Chestertons Polo in the Park, one of the most cherished and engaging occurrences in the world of polo, open to the general public. La Martina is the sponsor of Chesterton Polo in The Park since many years. A natural wedding, given the essence of the Argentinean company, a sportswear manufacturer and official supplier of the Federation of International Polo. As the spiritual home of British Polo, Hurlingham Park has played host to some of the most memorable matches in Polo’s history since 1874. There were often queues of carriages waiting to get in and games were often watched by members of the British monarchy, as well as royalty from across Europe. To mark the London Olympics,

La Martina global social storytelling project designed to celebrate both the elegance of Polo and the city vibrant lifestyle has kicked-off on the 6th of Aprile in Milan with the official hashtag #LMpolostory.

Polo in the Park is celebrating the historic final match of the 1908 Games when England beat Ireland and became Olympic Polo champions for the very first time. The Hurlingham Club still hosts the winner’s Olympic trophy. International polo teams representing six different Cities from around the world, including London, Dubai and Buenos Aires, competing over three days. You will get to see a minimum of three games of polo a day. Of particular excitement this year is that on Friday 9th June, there is an England International match at Hurlingham again, competing under newly ratified City Polo Series Rules. The pitch-side entertainment ensures that spectators are treated to a day of non-stop action both on and off the field. An array of exclusive bars, including the renowned Mahiki Bar, Champagne Lanson Garden and Fever-Tree Bar & Garden provide quintessential locations to enjoy world class polo and music whilst sipping a thirst-quenching cocktail. For those with withdrawal symptoms from the Kings Road, there is an onsite shopping village selling unique luxury items. Following the success of 2016, the Grazing Paddock, polo’s greatest pop-up food festival, will return bigger and even tastier in 2017 with many of London’s most sensational restaurants in attendance to ensure the fans of Chestertons Polo in the Park 2017 are treated like polo royalty. A visit to the polo followed by a late afternoon picnic in a London park, surely that’s the perfect start to the summer. La Martina is the official outfitters to the Federation of International Polo and the English National team, as well as supplying top polo playing schools and universities around the world from Eton to Harvard with necessary protective attire, which is to say they are not only ambassadors for the sport of polo; they are polo. The La Martina products, though made with polo as the inspiration, are perfect for day-to-day use as well.

ROBERT DE NIRO SUITS UP

Starring opposite young actor and fellow Italian-American McCaul Lombardi in a short film-cum-tailoring masterclass titled Defining Moments, De Niro proves his silver fox credentials in back-to-back razorsharp looks. The decision to combine the two actors also points to the inter-generational aspect of Zegna’s appeal, and nods to the varying ages of the models in Zegna’s recent catwalk show in Milan - the designer’s first at the house. The campaign, both the pictures and video was shot by Francesco Carrozzini, as part of a “long-term project” for the company and heralds the start of a strong relationship between 73-year-old De Niro and the brand. This elegant campaign is a similarly impressive step to painting a rich picture of the 21st-century Zegna man.

HUBLOT BIG BANG UNICO 120

Copyright: Hublot

WATCH At the apex of excellence, Hublot watches can be found where luxury and performance intersect. A Swiss watch company founded in 1980 by Italian Carlo Crocco, Hublot has mastered the fine art of being on the cutting edge of horology. “The Art of Fusion” philosophy championed by Hublot is extruded through striking design and unmatched precision. Since Jean-Claude Biver became CEO in 2004 Hublot’s success grew rapidly. Hublot has sponsored a number of large sport and celebrity events, has created watch collections in collaborations with VIPs and employed intense marketing to communicate its brand and models. You may like or not like what Hublot does but there are only a few brands polarising as much as they do. Hublot cleverly fills niches and could therefore create its own particular style. About a year ago exactly, Hublot debuted their very first Hublot Big Bang UNICO Sapphire watch. It is still the most affordable high-end sapphire-cased watch around - at least for its level of complexity with a price of about $58,000. It was followed up by a black “smoked” version called the Hublot Big Bang UNICO Sapphire All Black.Today, Hublot releases a brand new sapphire crystal-based Big Bang, and it’s

Beyond the technical feat, the transparency of the case is really captivating from every angle. A transparent architecture where the play of inner workings is brought together in light. This limited Hublot Big Bang Unico Sapphire All Black is powered with Hublot’s proprietary HUB 1242 Unico chronograph, featured with a fly-back function and a skeletonized date indication. First presented in 2009, the calibre is perfectly coherent with the black transparency concept. It is one of the rare chronographs movements to feature its column-wheel positioned on the dial side. Its intricacies are exposed to view through the skeleton dial made of black polished transparent composite resin. Hublot claims that the “magic” part of the name refers to the duality of the colors, namely the contrast between black and white. Contrast serves watches well because it isn’t just about visual attention, but on dials it is important for legibility. As I said, for me, the Hublot Big Bang UNICO Magic Sapphire is a best-of-both-worlds type of product that offers practicality and a sense of “look at me” fun which is part of the Hublot wearing experience. Hublot carry on the transparent theme with its strap made of rubber

‘’BY CONTINUOUSLY TRANSFORMING ‘SAVOIR-FAIRE,’ HUBLOT HAS DEVELOPED A REPUTATION FOR COMBINING TRADITIONAL WATCHMAKING SKILLS WITH INNOVATION IN BOTH MATERIALS AND DESIGN. IN A LONG LINE OF INNOVATIVE HUBLOT TIMEPIECES, THE BIG BANG UNICO SAPPHIRE IS CRAFTED OF SAPPHIRE, A MATERIAL OF UNIQUE CHARACTER.’ - RICARDO GUADALUPE, CEO OF HUBLOT easily favorite yet with the Hublot Big Bang UNICO Magic Sapphire. Just when you thought Hublot couldn’t get any crazier, they go ahead and release a clear watch. So first things first, what is this thing made of? Believe it or not, it is made of none other than sapphire crystal. Hublot has managed to take the same stuff used to make transparent case backs and molds it into actual Big Bang cases. This was no easy feat. The case middle, bezel, and case back were all cut out of blocks of sapphire crystal, which is scratch resistant and is almost as hard as diamonds. Titanium was used for smaller elements, including the screws, crown (additionally molded with silicon), and the deployant buckle. Overall the watch measures 45 mm in diameter. One advantage to using sapphire as the case is you can see the movement inside from every angle. Here, that means a great look at Hublot’s inhouse Unico chronograph movement, which is a flyback chronograph with a column wheel and a double clutch. To make all this even easier to see, Hublot has treated the movement with a black PVD finish. The watch has a 72-hour power reserve and is automatically wound by the rotor on the backside of the movement. Other interesting features of the movement include a bidirectional winding system and a 60 minute counter instead of the traditional 30 minute counter found on bicompax chronograph dials.

but highly translucent which lets you see your skin while wearing the watch. If this isn’t for you then you are in luck as Hublot have added their tool-less quick release system to the strap in keeping with the rest of the Big Bang collection which means you can easily fit whatever strap you wish. but it has to be bought from Hublot as no after-market straps will fit their strap connection system. On the wrist, the watch wears true to its size and quite light. The watches wear extremely cool and fashionable on the wrist, and is the type of watches that would go perfectly well while attending a music concert on a warm summer evening. Beyond the marketing machine and its commercial success, Hublot impresses with their watches and developments. Both the case and the movement of the Big Bang Unico Sapphire show what has been accomplished at Hublot along the past few years. Although it is far from understated –which a Big Bang is not meant to be- it wears well for a 45mm case. The architectural transparency is really captivating. It is priced at US$57,900, understandably a fraction of the price demanded by the other brands. Hublot’s Big Bang Unico Sapphire and Big Bang Unico All Black Sapphire is limited to 500 pieces each. That is a 1000 pieces limited edition. Not that this strategy of limited editions is anything new to the brand.

FLAVIO MANZONI HEAD OF FERRARI DESIGN By Valerio Cometti

Design

Valerio Cometti ci accompagna a conoscerlo meglio.

The open-air off-roader follows the dramatic debut of the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet last fall and is the first off-roader - and second royal ragtop - from the swanky sub-brand. Benz claims this is a legitimate off-roader, going so far as to offer press photos of the Landaulet walking on water as if it were some sort of automotive messiah. However, with locking differentials, shift-on-the-fly low range, and nearly 18 inches of ground clearance, it should do alright in the backyard of someone’s sprawling estate - or on safari. The company plans on building just 99 of these image-augmenting monstrosities, and Mercedes says it won’t announce a price for them. Why does the 21st century need a limited edition,

convertible,V12-engined G-Class? Well, we might quietly whisper back, why the hell not? Mercedes’s argument is as follows: “The off-road icon demonstrates that the definition of unique luxury can always be taken to a new level.” And what a level. We begin our descent at 5.3m long and 2.2m high, with a ground clearance of more than half a metre. It’s strictly a four seater, and here, if you excuse the pun, we uncover the first part of the mix. While the driver and front passenger get a proper roof, the rear passengers are treated to an electrically folding fabric roof that stows in an unspecified amount of seconds to reveal much sky. Press another button, and a glass partition further separates front and back passengers. Another push of a button, and said glass changes from transparent to opaque. Shady.

KESSEL RACING NEWS by LE GRAND MAG

The gap from the triumphs of 2016 to waiting for the new racing season is really short as the images put together on these pages clearly show. The team marks the end of a record-breaking season in Abu Dhabi, celebrating yet another victory in the ‘Gulf 12 Hours’, an endurance race which has become a key event in the International GT races calendar. The Team Principal, the drivers and the mechanics all gathered together in a strong embrace, expressing joy and satisfaction at the end of a race that sealed a season spent long stretches away from home, winning across the globe in all conditions. From the recently celebrated victories we go to the latest news with the preview of Kessel Racing’s new liveries of their Ferrari 488 Challenges, which will begin their conquest in May with the 25th edition of the Ferrari Challenge. The new elegant liveries designed by the team in Grancia marry perfectly with the aggressive, sinuous lines of the brand new 488 Challenge, which will see its racing debut at the first race of the season at the Ferrari Challenge, which will take place in Valencia next May. Yet another moment to live for those passionate about motorsport and the ultimate goal of victory.

A NEW SEASON FOR KESSEL RACING

Spring, the motorsport season. After the Winter break engines are being started up again in view of a new long and exciting season. Kessel Racing is preparing for the new year of races after having set aside the extraordinary sequence of victories during what was a fairytale 2016. After the triumphs in the Blancpain GT Series, the GT Sports Club, the Ferrari Challenge Europe, the Historic Rally and the Historic F1 Grand Prix in Montecarlo as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Kessel Racing finished off the season with a victory in the Gulf 12 Hours, the year-end international endurance race, which for the last few seasons has become an important end-of-season classic race. There couldn’t have been a better way to end the year that was exceptionally rich in victories, which reasserted the team from Grancia as a true benchmark in the international racing scene. Victories are quickly set aside; it’s already time to think about the future, which is already a reality. It’s back to base during the Winter months at the headquarters in Grancia,

the only time possible to take a break from the frenetic activities that characterise the modern realities of motorsport. The months flew by as fast as cars speeding on the track. The cars that have just returned from trips to Daytona and Abu Dhabi have been carefully looked over by engineers in every single detail to be ready in time for the first races. Behind all the joyful images of success on the track, there is a huge amount of work that takes place at the factory in Grancia, where, long before the engines are started up on the track, a taste of the season is experienced in advance by going over all the technical problems with a fine-tooth comb, which will come up day after day. Scheduling, a very important process, is carried out by scrupulously analysing the calendars of the various championships in which the team will compete, paying particular attention to coinciding races. It is often the case that during a weekend the team participates in two different competitions thousands of kilometres away from each other. And everything must be perfect and precise in order to win trophies. In addition to logistical programming great attention is paid to the study of new models such as the 488 Challenge, the new eight-cylinder berlinetta which will be the protagonist at the Ferrari Challenge Europe races in 2017. It’s critical to go to the track with clear ideas in mind in order to provide maximum support to the racing clientele. Every detail is taken into account, such as the livery of the cars that are specially designed and proposed to the client even before the car, built

A photo can describe a season far better than words: Kessel Racing standing on the highest step of the podium of the Blancpain GT Series. 2016 was a year of consecration for the team from Grancia, which, in the SRO-sponsored series, won all the titles at stake in the series in which it took part. It was a fantastic season for the drivers and the team from Ticino, which in a few weeks will be at the start of a new and exciting competitive season with renewed ambitions of winning and to reassert their victories in 2016 on the most important tracks across Europe.

at Ferrari’s factory in Maranello, passes through the gates of the Kessel Racing factory in Grancia. Next to the activities most closely linked with on-track events are the secondary activities related to communication and image that are dedicated to the sponsors and the clientele. K Space, the high-tech hospitality of the team led by Ronnie Kessel, is a real magnet for those transiting in any paddock at European races. And a very modern structure such as the K Space undboutedly needs to be looked after almost like a racing car during the Winter break, in order to be ready for the first meeting. Spring 2017 sees the beginning of the first tests and the season starts to take on its final form after the Winter break. There is a whole new chapter to write on tracks from all around the world. There are new challenges to be faced and Kessel Racing is already in ‘pole position’.

KESSEL RACING, PASSION AS SEEN THROUGH PHOTOS Photos taken of the last extraordinary season of racing for Kessel Racing show some technical details of the Ferrari 488 GT3, the new car that drove the team from Grancia to so many great victories in a record-breaking 2016. During the night track duels in Abu Dhabi, with the mechanics’ speed and precision during a pit stop in a race, you sense the sheer passion and commitment of every individual element that makes up Kessel Racing in order to win. But it’s already time to think about the new season, which is about to begin in a few days as the highly technical steering wheel of the 488 GT3 constantly reminds us, with that Prancing Horse at the centre, synonymous with great passion for racing.

VISION MERCEDES-MAYBACH 6 CONCEPT: AS BEAUTIFUL AS ANY BENZ BEFORE “THE ULTIMATE IN LUXURY.” THAT’S WHAT MERCEDES-BENZ IS CALLING ITS LATEST CONCEPT COUPE, THE VISION MERCEDES-MAYBACH 6. THE “6” REFERS TO ITS MIGHTY LENGTH: NEARLY 20 FEET. USING A “HOT AND COOL” DESIGN PHILOSOPHY, THE ALL-ELECTRIC COUPE EMPLOYS SLEEK, SENSUAL LINES ON THE OUTSIDE, AND AN AVANT-GARDE INTERIOR WRAPPED IN WHITE LEATHER AND OPEN-PORE ELM WOOD ACCENTS. In typical Mercedes fashion the Maybach 6 is both luxurious and completely over the top, something that looks like it was designed for Cruella Deville. It is ostentatious and unnecessary but also unfathomably pretty and desirable looking both synonymously modern and retro. Its bulging and muscular body shape is typical of modern sports cars but its grille, which is bizarrely said to be inspired by a pinstripe suit, looks like something found on the retro Morgan Aero 8. Overall, the car’s long nose and short deck are reminiscent of the Mercedes-AMG GT, and the long, tapering tail and lights are similar to that of the Mercedes-AMG Vision Gran Turismo concept from a few years ago. Capping off the front of the Mercedes-Maybach 6 is a proud, prominent grille that the company claims was inspired by a pinstripe suit. At each corner are 24-inch wheels with transparent panels based on the transforming, aerodynamic wheels of the Concept IAA Mercedes previously showed. The inside is as modern as the outside is classic. Although there are two analog gauges set atop the steering column, they’re dwarfed by the digital display screen that runs the full width of the dash and even onto the door panels. Additionally, the windshield itself functions as a giant head-up display and is operated via gesture controls. Continuing the wraparound theme, the seat bottoms extend up into the door panels and the center console. The seats themselves are upholstered in white leather, with button tufting that’s supposed to suggest a chesterfield sofa. Rather than carpet, the floor is covered in open-pore elm wood, which continues up onto the lower door panels, for what Mercedes characterises as “a refined yachting look.” Metal accents are rose gold. Drivers have plenty of opportunity to gaze at their surroundings, since the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 also can operate autonomously. The cabin, secluded by two gullwing doors, appears to be a technological sanctuary, sheltering the occupants from the outside world. It features an enormous heads-up display along the width of the windshield, whilst

158

the lack of a transmission tunnel could indicate an electric powertrain. The high-tech feeling of the cabin is further emphasised by what appears to be a touch sensitive surface, surrounding the two passengers. The surface embeds the seat control functions and the navigation system. Mercedes equipped the Maybach 6 with some clever technological features as well. It has a maximum charging capacity of 350kW, meaning in just five minutes, 62 miles of range can be added to the battery with a wired connection. And if you’re looking for even more convenience out of your ultra-luxurious electric coupe, it can be charged wirelessly via an electromagnetic field. Aesthetically, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 has two main characteristics: sensual, emotional design (“hot”) and intelligent details (“cool”). For example, the classic show-car proportions-the extremely long hood, low roofline and rearward positioning of the greenhouseappeal to the “hot” side, while the smart aerodynamics and technical character of the narrow lights, partially transparent rims and split rear window reflect the “cool” aesthetic. ‘’Our glamorous coupé, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, represents the ultimate in contemporary luxury. It is hot and cool. With its intelligent appeal and reduced, technoid look, it perfectly embodies our design philosophy of sensual purity and our pursuit of aerodynamic efficiency.’’commented Gorden Wagener, the Head of Design at Daimler AG. Thanks to its four compact permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, it features all-wheel drive. The output of the drive system is 550 kW (750 hp).The shallow underfloor battery has a usable capacity of approx. 80 kWh. This not only allows performance characteristics typical of a sports car (acceleration from 0‑100 km/h in under four seconds, top speed electronically governed at 250 km/h) but also a range of over 500 kilometres according to the NEDC (over 200 miles according to EPA).Sounds all a bit sci-fi? It is for now, but you’d better believe it; this kind of tech is under development today.

CAR

For over 25 years, people have travelled from far and wide to see some of the world’s greatest cars be auctioned off to some very lucky new owners at RM Sotherby’s Monterey auction. Held during the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance week, the flagship auction for RM Sotherby’s has set a number of records in the classic car world; including the record for the “Highest Grossing Collector car Auction of all time” boasting $143 million in total sales. World renown classic car auction house RM Auctions, have presented the world’s most expensive car collection ever to be auctioned, appropriately named the “Pinnacle Portfolio”. Owned by an anonymous, absurdly rich, single individual, the impressive collection of 23 cars includes some of the greatest and most iconic European sports and racing cars of the 1950s and 1960s, plus some of the world’s most coveted modern super cars, making this an unprecedented rarity of automotive distinction. There are a number of Ferraris included in the auction all with their own unique details and distinctive rarities, but none as rare as the 1964 Ferrari 250 LM by Scaglieti. This thoroughbred is Ferrari Classiche certified, composed of all original mechanical parts and is considered more rare than even the 250 GTO. Also a highlight, the final Ferrari Enzo - number 400 - sits within the collection. Ferrari gifted the car to His Holiness Pope John Paul II, who blessed the car and then auctioned it off to raise money for tsunami victims. The cars distinct history and its total mileage of just 180km should see it secure a price previously unseen by an Enzo. Joining the Enzo are its three predecessors -

the Ferrari F50, F40 (F40 LM in this case) and 288 GTO; all of which feature a very low mileage and Classiche Certification. The impressive list goes on from there to include a few other VIPs like a 2005 Saleen S7 Twin Turbo. This is one of only two S7 Twin Turbos to feature the Competition Package and the only car at auction that was featured in Iron Man. Porsche’s original supercar, the 1988 959 ‘Komfort,’ will also make an appearance. All of this of course meaning that one of only 63 McLaren F1’s has certainly earned a place on this star studded cast of Sotheby’s auction. This particular F1 is known as the “Road Going LM,” as it is one of only two that were upgraded to factory LM specs. That is one impressive result from a single owner sale, with fifteen of 23 lots (65.2%) sold in hammer bids of $1,000,000 or more. The two lots that were unsold (Alloy Gullwing and the beautiful 250 SWB Competitizione Berlinetta) would have added almost $18 million to the sale total even at their unacceptable high bids. Even more interesting, eleven of the 23 sold lots had been bought at recent auctions, giving some insight into the performance of the high-value subset represented by the Pinnacle Portfolio. That record is subject to a bit of qualification as two of the lots had been bought in the early 2000’s, the Enzo at Maranello in 2005 and the McLaren F1 LM at London in 2003. The rest of the Pinnacle Portfolio with prior auction results dated from a spree in 2011 plus one each in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

“While many of the world’s most impressive collections were established in the public eye of the car-collecting world, The Pinnacle Portfolio was assembled with a clandestine, surgical precision unlike any other that has come to market. Its almost obsessive focus on perfection, rarity, and the superlative, irrespective of price, makes it the most significant and valuable private collection of motor cars ever presented at auction…From Ferraris and Lamborghinis, to Bugattis and Porsches, an offering of this importance and rarity is absolutely unprecedented. A sure focal point of this year’s Monterey week, it provides the most serious car collectors an exclusive opportunity to own the pinnacle model of each of the world’s most celebrated marques.” says Shelby Myers, Car Specialist, RM Sotheby’s.

164

The collection titled The Pinnacle Portfolio boasts some 30 vehicles, each in their own way iconic. It includes a street-able 1998 McLaren F1, 1955 MercedesBenz 300 SL Gullwing Alloy, 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider and 1964 Ferrari 250 LM, and a pair of Bugatti Veyron 16.4.

THE ULTIMATE V GRAND TOURER ASTON MARTIN WAS ONE OF THE MOST TALKED-ABOUT BRANDS AT THIS YEAR’S GENEVA MOTOR SHOW. THE LAUNCH OF A NEW DB IS A HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT EVENT, HERALDING A NEW GENERATION OF ASTON MARTIN GRAND TOURERS. NOW THE DB11 IS HERE AND IT’S ALL WE COULD HAVE HOPED FOR. IT FEATURES SLICK NEW TECHNOLOGY, A NEW 5.2 LITRE TWIN TURBO V12 ENGINE AND AN ADVANCED ALUMINIUM CHASSIS. ABOVE ALL, IT LOOKS SENSATIONAL.

Not for the first time in its 103-year history, Aston Martin is at a crossroads. Privately held and reasonably well-capitalized, Aston is short on fresh product -- and struggling to convince people who aren’t London bankers, it remains a marque worth paying attention to. We’ve been told to expect big, strange, wonderful things in the near future, from a production take on the electric DBX crossover to spacey hypercars. But first, the standard-bearer:The all-new DB11. No really. It’s the start of a whole new chapter for the company with a new, stiffer bonded aluminium chassis, mildly inflated dimensions over the DB9, a new 600bhp twinturbo 5.2-litre V12 engine, clean-sheet styling and a new electronic architecture supplied by Mercedes. And it kicks off an exciting new phase in the Aston story: seven cars in the next seven years – including a new Vantage,Vanquish, DBX crossover, multiple Lagonda saloons and that AMRB001 – plus, according to the sums, a return to profitability. The beating heart of the DB11 is its new 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V-12 engine, good for 600 horsepower. The engine and the eight-speed automatic transmission are bolted in a car that comes with an aluminum body (for lightness) that has been made stiffer. The result is impressive performance – zero to 62 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds.Top speed is 200 miles per hour. At 15 miles per gallon in the city, 21 mpg on the highway and 17 mpg overall, gas mileage isn’t worth boasting about in the Aston. But bear in mind that it is one of the rare cars with a 12-cylinder

172

engine that doesn’t gulp fuel so blatantly that it’s penalized with the gasguzzler tax. Further, as part of an ongoing partnership with AMG, the infotainment system and center console switchgear -- plus the rest of the car’s less-visible electrical stuff -- have been borrowed from Benz. If you’re familiar with the Benz system, there won’t be any hiding this; the infotainment system looks and operates like the familiar Comand setup, because it is. The interior is hugely impressive, with the controls and dials set in satin finish aluminium and an influence from Mercedes. The DB11 is also practical with a generous 270 litres of boot space that will readily take a couple of small cases, so packing need not be too challenging. Like other models in the company’s lineup, this car’s underlying platform is made from aluminum, an intricate collection of stampings, extrusions and castings. Together, these components result in an architecture that’s lighter, stiffer and more space efficient than what was offered by the company before.A welcome benefit of this new platform is space. Ingress and egress are greatly improved thanks to larger door apertures, plus the trunk has grown enough to accommodate a full set of luggage. As exotic cars go, this one is quite easy to live with. The 2017 Aston Martin is an exercise in elegant craftsmanship and design execution that provides sensory satisfaction on all levels without compromise.

CABIN DESIGN

THE WING The Aerion AS2 is a fundamentally different aircraft in that it is efficient in both subsonic and supersonic flight, has greater range, and is more flexible in airport operations. This considerable difference is made possible by three critical advances: a new wing concept; new composite material technology; and advanced software, proprietary to Aerion, that permits analysis of complex transonic airflows.

Supersonic Aerodynamics Dictate a unique non-constant cross section cabin, which is widest in the aft cabin and tapers forward. In the aft half of the cabin, width and height are equivalent to some of today’s best-selling long-range jets. Throughout the cabin, Aerion designers are able to provide the individual space and comfort travellers expect in a top-of-the-line business jet. Individual seats are equivalent in size to those in today’s large, long-range jets, as is seat pitch-the distance between opposite seats.

SYSTEMS

COMPOSITES The Aerion airframe will be constructed of carbon fiber composite structures, with titanium used for leading edges and some internal structures. The use of carbon fiber in major structures has become commonplace. Its properties are well understood. But of equal importance, carbon fiber wings will be extremely stiff, a requirement for holding the precise shape required for laminar flow and efficiency.

The systems for the AS2 are complex. The fuel system integrates with the flight control system because fuel is transferred to maintain weight and balance when transitioning between supersonic and subsonic flight. All systems—including avionics, environmental controls, hydraulics, auxiliary power, waste and water, and electrical—are in the process of being engineered.

AERION PARTNERED WITH AIRBUS ON SUPERSONIC BUSINESS JET The new 2017 will see supersonic jets a reality with Aerion’s new AS2 model.

The typical flight time from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia is about 15 hours and 30 minutes. On the Aerion AS2, a supersonic private jet currently in development, it would be just ten hours. Aerion Corporation, a 13-year-old aeronautical design company backed by a media-shy Texas billionaire and one of the world’s biggest aviation manufacturers, this week bagged a big sale of what it promises will be the world’s first-ever supersonic business jet, capable of carrying up to a dozen passengers. A partnership with Airbus gave Aerion’s concept a major boost in both credibility and technical know-how. Airbus will provide both components and technology as well as its expertise in bringing an aircraft from drawing board to commercial market, says Jeff Miller, an Aerion spokesman. The aircraft will be capable of carrying a total of 12 passengers in a 30-footlong cabin at speeds up to 1,218 mph. With a range objective of 5,450 miles or better – this aircraft is unique in that its high speeds will allow it to bypass the limitation that the United States government imposes on airspeeds above Mach 1 in its airspace. This means passengers of the Aerion enjoy unmatched point-to-point travel times for a civilian jet for the first time ever in international flights. Where speed has the priority over range and space, Airbus has a finger in a very different pie, with responsibility for the design of airframe structures, fly-by-wire, fuel system and landing gear on Aerion’s AS2 supersonic

180

business jet (pictured at top). Its futuristic design includes a trijet powerplant, but how much will the real aircraft resemble the artists’ impressions? “The ‘artist impressions’ are derived from CAD geometry that reflects actual engineering,” says Aerion VP of marketing and communications Jeff Miller. “The futuristic look is the result of necessary aerodynamic shaping to minimize wave drag that occurs at supersonic speeds. We expect a trijet configuration, but the final design will not close until after engine selection.” With its new three engine configuration, the AS2 is able to take greater advantage of the unique Aerion “unswept” SNLF (Supersonic Natural Laminar Flow) wing design. This sees the wing feature upper and lower surfaces that are slightly curved, ensuring a smooth flow of air across them that continues to travel in relatively undisturbed layers. Aerion claims this results in a 90 percent reduction in drag over more conventional swept or delta wing designs and helps reduce total airframe drag by as much as 20 percent. As a result, it is expected that the AS2 will not only be fast, but super-efficient as well. The company does not disclose its financials, and therefore it’s difficult to determine how many $120 million AS2s the company will need to sell after 2023 to turn a profit. If the demand does exist, however, Aerion and Airbus could find themselves pioneering the return to supersonic passenger flight.

THE TWO SEATER SOLAR PLANE SolarStratos to fly above Earth

Solar planes have already traversed the Alps and flown around the world, but one team has its sights set a little higher: the edge of space. SolarStratos is planning to fly a solar-powered plane to an altitude of over 24,000 m, from where the curvature of the Earth as well as daytime stars will be visible. The SolarStratos, a sleek, white two-seater aircraft with long wings covered with 22 square metres of solar panels, is set to become the first manned solar plane to make a stratospheric flight, according to Raphael Domjan, who is behind the project. “Our goal is to demonstrate that current technology offers us the possibility to achieve above and beyond what fossil fuels offer, he said in a statement, after unveiling the plane at the Payerne airbase in western Switzerland. The aircraft, which has a wingspan of 81.3 feet and weighs 992 pounds, leaves approximately the same carbon footprint as an electric car.The wings

AIRCRAFT

of the plane are covered by 72-square feet of solar panels, which provide energy to its 32-KW electric engine and 20 kWh lithium-ion battery. At middle latitudes, the stratosphere runs from a lower boundary of about 33,000 feet to an upper boundary of about 164,000 feet. Aeronautics engineers use a rough benchmark called the Karman line, located at about 328,000 feet above sea level, for defining the boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and space. To save weight during the flight, the plane will not be pressurised. Instead, pilot will wear a pressurised suit, like those worn by astronauts. As the suit will be connected to and powered by the plane, it will not allow him, should the need arise, to eject or to use a parachute. Among the factors at play will be temperatures as low as 70 °C (-94 °F) and atmospheric pressure of around 5 percent that on Earth. Traveling to the stratosphere will take approximately five hours: 2.5 hours to reach space, 15 minutes of broad daylight and stars, then three hours to return to Earth. A successful flight will open up the way for solar electric aviation at the frontier of space. This marks a first step towards solar drones, set to be much cheaper than existing satellites. The mission will also allow entirely new measurements, never before performed, to be taken at a rarely-visited altitude, free from any pollution at all – enabling humankind to achieve a better understanding of the effects of climate change on the atmosphere.

THE RETURN OF JUNKERS F13 RIMOWA www.rimowa-f13.com

The first all-metal commercial plane - Junkers F13 - took its inaugural flight in 1919 and revolutionised travel. Lightweight and able to fly long distances, the single-engine six-seater was considered an “air limousine” by businessmen and wealthy vacationers. Now, nearly a century after its birth, the German luggage maker Rimowa has teamed up with Swiss airline company JU-Air to build a replica of the classic Junkers F13. The company took on this mission

thanks led by the passion of Rimowa’s aviation-loving CEO Dieter Morszeck, who personally flies the company’s Embraer Phenom private jet around the world. His company, which sells some of the most iconic and desirable luggage previously used the same corrugated metal that made up the Junkers’ fuselage and wings. It took 12,000 hours to construct the Junkers F13 in the Black Forest. The low-wing plane, with an open two-man cockpit, comprises 2,600 parts held together by more than 35,000 rivets. 60 kilograms of paint were used for the finish. The historical replica is powered by a Pratt & Whitney Wasp Junior R985 9-cylinder radial engine with 450 hp. The interior is luxuriously finished with fine leather.

TEXTRON AVIATION DEBUTS CESSNA DENALI SINGLE ENGINE TURBOPROP MANY PEOPLE WOULD PREFER FLYING IN A PRIVATE PLANE TO DEALING WITH THE HASSLE AT THE AIRPORT. THOSE WITH $4.8 MILLION IN THEIR POCKET MAY SOON HAVE THAT CHOICE. TEXTRON AVIATION UNVEILED A NEW AIRCRAFT POWERED BY A PROPELLER ENGINE THAT FEATURES COMFORTS OF A PRIVATE JET, BUT AT AN ENTRY-LEVEL PRICE. DESIGNED FOR EXPLORERS AND BUSINESS TRAVELLERS ALIKE, THE CESSNA DENALI EXPANDS YOUR DESTINATION POSSIBILITIES. If you’ve ever been lucky enough to board a small plane to explore the vast emptiness of Brasil’s forests, for example, chances are you were doing so in a Cessna propeller aircraft. In many ways, Cessna (which is part of US conglomerate Textron) has even become synonymous with those kinds of small tourist aircraft – though they also produce a wide range of other airplanes, including private jets. And for that high-end portion of their clientele, Textron unveiled a brand new business aircraft called the Cessna Denali, which will feature a powerful 3D printed propeller engine that is strong enough to fly from Miami to New York. In the case of the air-air heat exchanger, additive manufacturing will increase reliability by eliminating brazen joints while offering the key benefits of lowered weight and volume without compromising function. The cockpit will feature Garmin’s G3000 avionics suite with touchscreen controllers and split-screen capability. Powered by a new General Electric FADEC-equipped, 1,240shp-rated turboprop, the Denali is being promoted as a 285-knot airplane with a full-fuel payload of 1,100 pounds and a 1,600-nautical-mile range at a high-speed cruise power setting. The Cessna Denali is equipped with a fully digital, dual-channel autopilot system equipped with many features for added safety, redundancy and reliability. Integrating data from the avionics system,

the AP is built to inspire confidence while ensuring optimum smoothness and comfort. The autopilot system is simple and straightforward to operate yet sophisticated and state-of-the-art, which makes flying the Denali easier, consistent and more enjoyable. “The Cessna Denali will enter the market as the superior aircraft in its segment,” said Kriya Shortt, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, Textron Aviation. “The Denali is already garnering interest and commitments because of its winning combination of features, including class-leading performance and ownership costs, as well as the widest and most comfortable cabin in its segment, all backed by an unrivalled global factory-direct service network.” The Denali’s cabin will feature a standard seating configuration of six individual reclining seats and will offer a nine-place high density seating option. The aircraft will boast a digital pressurisation system maintaining a 6,130 foot cabin altitude at a service ceiling of 31,000 feet. First in this class of aircraft, the Denali will offer customers an optional externally serviceable belted lavatory with pocket door enclosure that is located in the back of the cabin. Denali customers will also enjoy the large cabin windows, interior LED lighting, a forward refreshment cabinet and an in-flight accessible baggage compartment.

EIGHTY SEVEN PARK by RENZO PIANO BUILDING WORKSHOP Exciting things have been happening in the real estate market in South Florida, but they all pale in comparison to the latest project from world-renowned architect Renzo Piano. Eighty Seven Park is a selection of cutting edge private Miami Beach oceanfront residences designed to seamlessly embrace park and ocean in Miami Beach’s newest neighborhood. Renzo Piano is arguably one of the world’s most-famous modern day architects. His buildings include the London Shard, Japan’s Kansai Airport, the New York Times Building, and the Whitney Museum in New York. Renzo’s has another ongoing great project in Miami Beach, called Eighty Seven Park. Currently under constraction in a prime beachfront location next to the largest oceanfrontpark in Miami Beach - the 35-acre North Shore Open Space Park. Piano and his firm, Renzo Piano Building Workshop, were joined by project architect Stantec, headquartered in Canada, and Netherlands-based West 8. Paris-based Rena Dumas is taking care of the project’s interiors and exterior living spaces. An idea floated; a thought made real. A place bound by land and sea, but rising free of both. At the edge of the city, Eighty Seven Park is more than a building, it’s a landmark. Yet, with easy connections to South Beach and Bal Harbour, this coastal sanctuary offers all the benefits of life in one of the world’s most dynamic cities. Eighty Seven Park blurs the line between imagination and knowledge. Piano, interior designer RDAI, and landscape designer West 8 worked to bring the outside in. Materials outfitting each home were selected by RDAI to invoke an experience of nature, provided by light oak and Venetian terrazzo flooring, and an organic color palette. West 8 created an absolute botanical sanctuary with 70% of the base of the tower devoted to vegetation, like carefully selected sculptural sea grape trees. Creating a dialogue between private and public, natural and manmade, and indoor and outdoor spaces is fundamental to West 8’s design. ‘SOVEREIGN’: THE LIMOUSINE-SHAPED SUPERYACHT FIT FOR A KING Cruising a luxurious superyacht with your own custom-built limousine onboard, ready for offshore jaunts.

After breaking away from making traditional yachts to come out with a luxury beach cruiser concept car, it’s time for Gray Design to go back to what they do best, create exceptional superyacht designs. One of their children is the Sovereign Yacht, a technological marvel that respects luxury in the full of its meaning. The yacht comes with designing themes reminiscent of sovereign royals, especially with respect to its luxury features. There is a glass helicopter pad, encircled by an infinity pool; 10 guests suites as well as the extensive main quarters; a private cinema; and a nightclub area which epitomises ‘elegance and class’ - according to Gray Design, at least.

And of course there’s an onboard garage, to store the matching limousine which is an optional extra. The yacht uses eco friendly technology to power a lot of the important functions such as the lighting and temperature control. In the back end, the producers provided the yacht with an “infinity pool”, which keeps water circulating around a reinforced glass helipad. A special addition is a retractable cover that provides the owners with a bit of privacy and maintains a cool temperature inside. The vessel fit for a king could be yours, if you’re willing to shell out a mere $132 million.

WHY BRITISH AIRWAYS’ NEW FIRST-CLASS CABIN IS AN ABSOLUTE DREAM www.britishairways.com The idea of aviation interior design incredibly fascinating. When people think of interior design, we often think of our homes, maybe a bar or restaurant but very few of us would immediately think of a cabin in the sky. When it comes to design, there are no better examples of aviation interior design than the first class cabins that each airline display with extreme pride. Not only is the challenge to design something highly luxurious in such a compact space, it has to be durable, light weight and stand the test of movement from takeoff and landing to extreme turbulence. Designing a first class cabin in the sky is no easy project which makes the British Airways design even more impressive.
