FLEURS DE JARDIN BY JACOB & CO. Inspired by the sophisticated mechanism of the Astronomia Solar, the Fleurs de Jardin makes horology colorful and feminine. Designed to recreate a beautiful garden of flowers on your wrist, this amazing timepiece is powered by a twirling, spinning and rotating butterfly tourbillon movement. The tourbillon, time display and upper level precious stone flowers all turn around the dial clockwise, while the other gemstone flowers below turn counter-clockwise (sapphires, tsavorites, citrines, amethysts, rubies and orange garnets). The effect? When you look at your Fleurs de Jardin timepiece, it never looks the same way twice. And you will never look at high watchmaking for women the same way either.

DUNHILL’S DUALITY OF STYLE www.dunhill.com “For me, duality is the recurring theme of Dunhill – it’s one of the defining elements,” states Mark Weston, Creative Director of Dunhill. Weston came onboard the Dunhill with his ‘new vision’ back in 2017. Since then, he has carefully curated the brand’s vision with an outlook onto the future. Which Weston describes as, “Dunhill’s innovative and design-driven heritage is a unique platform to build upon by creating purposeful products with an aesthetic that is classic yet relevant today.” Dunhill is known around the world as a menswear and leather goods brand with hallmark British style. Founder, Alfred Dunhill best explained the company’s philosophy with the following words, ”if one can exactly meet the desires of a good class of public, time alone is necessary to make it profitable. Compared with quality, price is relatively important.” This is particularly evident in the brand’s Made to Measure and Bespoke services that embody the label’s personalized design philosophy. However, Dunhill’s craftsmanship and attention to detail goes beyond the various product lines to produce unique creations that are perfectly tailored with modern Britishness. “This season I wanted that rediscovery of sophistication, of having the confidence for quietness and discretion. It is the attraction in looking at someone who understands a certain aesthetic language and style, but they’re not shouting about it.” Dunhill’s latest collection brings to life Weston’s words in a kaleidoscope of discreet sophistication. “At the same time,” adds Weston, “there is still an idea of playing with the parameters of taste and the re-contextualisation of menswear cultures,

58

ELEGANCE

which is something very British.” In fact the collection permeates with the nuances of Country House and Acid House that represent the duality of British clothing culture. This season, the Dunhill man takes on contradictions. He embraces tradition and subversion whether on the field or the street. And exudes an air of refinement and aspiration that transcends cultures and classes. He is sophisticated yet provocative. His attire is both useful and elegant. According to Weston this concept of duality comes to life in an amalgamation of styles and fabrics. “It’s where eighties Sloane Ranger, terrace casual and Japanese austerity intersect, in that dramatic subversion of city and country attire.Yet it is not about looking back, it is a fluidity in menswear that feels right for today.” In other words, Weston brings country inspirations into urban city contexts. Eighties Sloanes meet their Casual counterparts and take a new form with the incorporation of Japanese classicism and volume resulting in silhouettes that are both voluminous and sinuous. Relaxed, wrapped tailoring takes over Dunhill’s classic double-breasted jacket, which this season dons a ‘kimono-approach’ with quietness and amplification. Casual code split hem trousers that are a nod to the eighties are paired with gaiters worn by country gentlemen. The collection eschews a notion of pastiche. This is quite noticeable in the contradicting use of fabrics and styles that give the Dunhill gentleman a contemporary look of duality. Jackets and outerwear take on a more utilitarian approach combining fabrics like silk faille and moire, commonly seen in eveningwear, instead of tweed and other technical textiles usually attributed to informal tailoring. British corduroy makes a slouchy yet elegant appearance when juxtaposed with silk faille and bonded knits with accents in luxurious leather. Traditional wools are also featured coated or twisted with the addition of cashmere to achieve a look that is rough and rustic with an air of extravagance and opulence. Deerstalker baseball caps are combined with sinuous mohair suits, nylon walnut shirts for a conventional outfit that is timeless, sophisticated and playfully British. The Dunhill gentleman celebrates the conventional and iconoclastic. Dunhill’s latest collection brings to life the duality of discreet sophistication for a gentleman that understands aesthetics with restraint, essentially he personifies the true British style.

ARGENTINIAN PASSION BRITISH ATTITUDE www.lamartina.com

‘It’s polo, but not as you know it,’ announces La Martina as they present their latest collection for an Autumn/Winter season that comes packed with Argentinian passion and British attitude. This season is all about mix-and-matching styles and fabrics and layers for a distinct look that is complimented with exquisite details and accessories. Talent, passion, courage and fair play are intrinsic values that personify La Martina brand and are increasingly being appreciated by younger generations.

“WE DO NOT USE THE POLO GAME TO PROMOTE THE BRAND, WE ARE POLO” LANDO SIMONETTI

Men’s collection is distinguished by the use of a wide range of color that celebrates the brand’s heritage and serves to identify key polo locations, particularly for the Ciudades Collection. La Martina’s logo has undergone a slight change and is evident in sweaters and sweatshirts and soon throughout the entire collection.

The collection embodies the natural evolution of the new urban style with garments that can be mixed and matched from the brand’s various lines whilst retaining their distinct identity. This mix-and-match allows millennials to create fresh combinations that highlight their personal values for a look that is sporty, collegial or inspired by the uniforms of the Queen’s Royal Guards. Double-breasted jackets can be paired with 30° denim jeans, outerwear in bold colors can be worn over graphic t-shirts or shirts customised with ribbons and a pair of velvet trousers. Take your pick from this season’s accessories with exquisite bags and footwear to complete your look. Colors predominate this season, reinterpreting cuts and concepts from traditional items in a contemporary fashion while keeping faith with La Martina’s polo heritage. Menswear collection features neutral tones of blues, greys, whites and blacks combined with vibrant Air Force blues and reds, purples, oranges and tobaccos. The brand’s iconic polo shirts and the cities of polo - ciudades collection, have been revisited with new graphics and techniques. The latter, particularly focused on three destinations: Auckland with shades of black, white, navy and orange, London with red and white elements and Buenos Aires with white, navy and a hint of sky blue. A key item is the 1950s varsity inspired bomber jacket with Ivy League collegestyle writing and bold lettering patterns. La Martina’s classic polo shirts, available in a Merino-yarn variant, are emblazoned with numbers, logos and full graphic prints. Other garments include honey-combed textured jumpers, ribbed turtlenecks, chinos, classic and tailored trousers. The women’s collection, also centered on polo shirts, incorporates

62

ELEGANCE The women’s collection draws inspiration from Argentina and its cultural elements as well as the brand’s polo heritage. The Guarda Pampa (People of the Earth) motif appears on lace ribbons and decorative motifs. Other references to the Land of Fire are evident in trousers featuring tango dancerstyle side bands.

outerwear and shirts for a casual yet elegant look. The polo shirt has also undergone a slight transition oversized fit to resemble a blouse rendering it ideal of evening events. Another recognizable element is the combination of material achieved by layering, overlapping fabrics, flocked fabrics, Fisherman’s ribbed stitching, aged leathers, chenille, alkali-washed doubleprocessed denim, matte and glossy surfaces, matelassé textures, and inserts with lacing, ribbons, studs, rhinestones, lurex and appliqués. Items can be paired with outerwear from the Guards line for a touch of British style with a neo-romantic flair. Tone-on-tone black twill coats and trench coats or chenille jacquard jackets adorned with antique-looking heraldic buttons, banner appliqués and lurex embroidery are combined with bootcut trousers, t-shirts, sweatshirts, blouses and dresses with details in organza, silk crepe and digital printing techniques.

WATCHES

A DISTINCT SHAPE

The history of the Baignoire goes back to 1912, when Louis Cartier took a traditional round watch and decided stretch it out, as a result the shape he achieved with these elongated parallel lines recalled that of a bathtub, or ‘baignoire.’ The shape was refined to Cartier’s impeccable standards of aesthetics and over the years it has continued to evolve adapting to the times. During the 1950s large Roman or Arabic numbers adorned its dial, while the excesses 1960s gave it an oversized silhouette. Now, a new stylistic chapter is added to this exquisite timepiece with a daring design and sculpted gold bezel.

BEAUTY IN ALL ITS GUISES Cartier’s famed Baignoire began with a risky creative idea, to reveal watchmaking design hidden in an ordinary form: the ellipse. And so, in the early 1900s Cartier created the Baignoire, a signature watch of enduring beauty. It is a timepiece for women, like Catherine Deneuve and Jeanne Moreau, who forsake trends and opt for timeless style. The Baignoire is a cult Cartier object. Since its birth in 1912 at the hands of Louis Cartier, this timepiece has become a Cartier icon with its distinctive elongated, elliptical shape. It has transcended over the years adapting to the changing climes whilst enduring the test of time. Cartier unveiled the latest chapter in the history of this evocative timepiece at the 2019 SIHH: The Baignoire Allongée. This new chapter exudes a plethora of emotions where elegance, texture and desire combine in a daring new design. The Baignoire’s distinct bezel has undergone a precious transformation sculpted in gold and adorned with endless repertoire of Cartier gems.

The exquisite new variants of this timeless icon, were presented at SIHH and include the Small Baignoire Watch in yellow gold with taupe alligator leather strap and a white gold version with bezel set with 228 brilliant-cut diamonds and dark navy alligator leather strap. The new Baignoire Allongée takes Cartier’s original ellipse bezel and extends it further whilst beautifully adorning it with precious elements like pink or white gold or dazzling diamonds. The new model’s dial features a choice of glistening paved diamonds or equally elongated Roman numerals. The timepiece is completed with its signature thin strap in exquisite alligator skin or white gold set with brilliant-cut diamonds.

THE 1939 PORSCHE TYPE 64

THE CAR THAT BIRTHED A LEGEND rmsothebys.com “Without the Type 64, there would be no Porsche 356, no 550, no 911,” comments Marcus Görig, Car Specialist at RM Sotheby’s. “This is Porsche’s origin story, the car that birthed the company’s legend, and it offers collectors what is likely an unrepeatable opportunity to sit in the seat of Ferdinand and Ferry Porsche. With this car, the new owner will not only be invited to the first row of every Porsche event worldwide—they will be the first row!” The Type 64 defined the sports car. The year was 1939, the setting would have been Germany’s autobahn system for a 1,500 kilometer race from Berlin to Rome to showcase the launch of the KdF-wagen, Ferdinand Porsche’s car for the masses, yet the outbreak of World War II interrupted everything. Three racing version of the KdF-wagen, known as Type 64 had been produced. They had the same drivetrain and suspension of Volkswagen’s Type 1, but differed in that the chassis and alloy body used

aircraft technology. The first of these models became property of the German labor front, while Porsche kept the remaining two as test cars as they continued production for a lighter, faster sports car. Following an accident, the third car was fitted with chassis of the first model and kept as a family car by Ferry and Ferdinand Porsche. This became the only Type 64 to survive the war. The model underwent restoration by Pinin Farina in 1947 and was presented the following year alongside the Type 356 Roadster. Austrian driver Otto Mathé drove it, loved it and purchased it. He raced it during the 1950s and kept it until his death in 1995.Two years later it was purchased by Dr. Thomas Gruber, a notable Porsche specialist and the third owner of this one-of-a-kind model. Now, this automotive piece of history will be auctioned during the Monterey Car Week. “We’ve had the honor of presenting some of the most significant cars in the history of numerous top marques at Monterey,” explains Gord Duff, RM Sotheby’s Global Head of Auctions,“and the Type 64 now stands among them.”According to estimates by RM Sotheby’s this car is expected to fetch an excess of $20 million. “The Type 64 helped define what a sports car is today, and it carries many of the traits we’ve seen throughout seven decades of Porsche production and still see in some of the marque’s most sought-after contemporary models,” adds Duff. “We’re grateful to have been entrusted by the owner with this important piece of automotive, engineering, and world history and we look forward to sharing it with the collector car hobby this summer.”

The Rolls-Royce Phantom was first introduced in 1925 by Sir Henry Royce and was immediately considered ‘the best car in the world.’ Every subsequent Phantom model has upheld this title thanks to the brand’s tireless pursuit of perfection, visionary engineering and aesthetic acuity. Recent years have welcomed the eighth generation of the Phantom with a contemporary design and Rolls-Royce’s ‘Architecture of Luxury,’ their signature interpretation of luxury, which lies in small-volume manufacture. “This realization was a moment of clarity about the destiny of Rolls-Royce,” explains Torsten MüllerÖtvös, Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. “Every one of

our customers – each a connoisseur of luxury in the extreme – were asking for something more individual to them, not less.” Starting with the New Phantom, every new Rolls-Royce will follow in this new Architecture of Luxury approach. Following this new approach, the New Phantom, features an all-aluminium spaceframe structure designed for lightness, performance and handling. The new design maintains the Phantom’s iconic 2:1 proportions with a short front and long rear overhang. The Pantheon grille, made from hand-polished stainless steel, has also undergone a revisitation and for the first time has been integrated into the surrounding bodywork. It has a futuristic design and a slightly elevated positioning. The rear of the vehicle with its flowing lines, recalls that of models from the 1950s and 60s. Lastly, 22inch wheels complete the design proportions while delivering a ‘Magic Carpet Ride.’ The car is powered by a 6.75-liter V12 engine with two turbochargers that delivers 563 bhp or 420 kW of power. Additionally the vehicle also boasts impeccable insulation thus becoming ‘the most silent motor car in the world.’

L’ECURIE BLEU rmsothebys.com Irish-American racecar driver Lucy Schell purchased this Delahaye 135 S Compétition Court, chassis number 46810, in 1935. Affectionately known as ‘L’Ecurie Blue’ or ‘The Blue Stable’ on account of its sky-blue tone and muff led engine sound, Ms. Schell raced the car until the late 1930s before selling it to driver René Carrière. This model was supposed to make its debut in the 1936 Le Mans 24 Hours, which was canceled. It participated in the Comminges Grand Prix and several other races and subsequent seasons. By 1939, the Delahaye 135 was sold to Eugène Chaboud, who became the last owner to race the vehicle before the war. The car exchanged hands once again in 1940. The new owner kept the Delahaye for 30 years, during which time it was rebodied by Carrosserie Hebmüller. The car exchanged hands again before returning to its native France in 1991 when it was purchased by an avid Delahaye collector. The car, which retains its original engine - a rarity for a racing car from the 1930s, was fitted with a new body made by Carrosserie Bonnefoy based on period photographs featuring aluminum coachwork identical to the car’s original 1939 body.

WHAT A NIGHT THAT NIGHT! What a relish when you get to Le Mans, what a thrill when you get to Le Mans. In the end, for anyone in this business, to have made it this far is in itself a great achievement. After long months of preparation, training, practice races, sacrifices, moments of discouragement, moments of enthusiasm, but when you get to Le Mans everything is rewarded, every single effort. Let’s be honest, Le Mans is the dream of every driver, of every motorsport enthusiast, Le Mans is a sacred temple. Suffice to say that every driver in the world, whether he admits it or not, has only one dream in his mind: to win the 24h of Le Mans. More important than the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500, it’s the most important race in the world. We arrive with that desire and determination that only great opportunities can give you, we have prepared so much, our two Ferrari 488 GTEs are already parked in our box 51/52. They look like thoroughbred horses, elegant, majestic. At the same time,

they are champing, you can hear the noise of their hooves and their whinnying, they want to run, they want to get on the track, I want to show everyone why they are there, they want to show it in this arena, a theatre surrounded by 252,000 extras. The two cars will be driven by two different crews; an all-female one, composed of Rahel Frey, Michelle Gatting and Manuela Gostner. The other crew is made up of an all-Italian team: Claudio Schiavoni, Andrea Piccini and Sergio Pianezzola. The cars are particularly recognisable during the race, thanks to the liveries created specifically by the Swiss watchmaker brand Hublot, who designed the livery for the occasion together with Garage Italia, while Guess took care of dressing the entire Kessel Racing team. The atmosphere is wonderful, it seems to return to the 70s, to that golden age, where motorsport was tough and pure, made of uncompromising moments and half measures, an old slice of sport that only Le Mans continues to keep alive. By Wednesday the circuit is already filling up, the first fans put

their tents there, set up their campsites, light their BBQ’s. These improvised bivouacs turn into their homes during the race days. The aroma of grills, the powerful smell of engines makes you understand that you have arrived, that you are there; you too are present in writing the story. The music from the concerts is carried by the wind throughout the entire circuit and is perfectly intertwined with the noise of the engines which, during the night, create a romantic and gentle dance, blending perfectly the feeling of unconsciousness with poetry. The journey has been long, as long as the race, just think of our figures relating to the 24h race: 2 cars, 120 tyres used during the race, 4100 litres of gasoline, 44 pit stops, 80 mechanics, engineers, hospitality staff, the communication team, and the people dedicated to the sponsor management. and the dream come true and the Team Kessel Racing Ferraris, numbers 83 and 60, have completed the feat and finished the most beautiful race in the world. That goal, which in 1993 the founder of the group, Loris Kessel, achieved with his Porsche 962C.The emotion is huge, the disbelief of having made it is tangible in the eyes of the guys in the team. Yes, it’s over! Unfortunately, it’s over. But behind those tired faces, those shining eyes, lie unique emotions, which each of them will carry around forever. In the end, when the chequered flag marks the arrival, you are not tired, you are not sleepy, you are only projected into a fourth dimension, Le Mans is that place where the day seems to be the night and the night seems to be the day, that place where the day is so long that it never seems to end. This is Le Mans, an 87-year long poem.

HIGH-PERFOMANCE DESIGN FOR THE SEA

Rossinavi presents their new superyacht concept series: Infinity, which embodies the hallmark sporty lines of a Rossinavi superyacht and the creative power Fulvio de Simoni’s designs. THE SPORTING

SPIRIT OF THE PROJECT NEVERTHELESS MAINTAINS ROSSINAVI’S HIGH STANDARDS Infinity42, is an extremely versatile yacht with the same technical specifications of a megayacht placed in a 42-meter vessel.

Rossinavi’s latest superyacht began with a simple idea. A line connecting two windows located on opposite sides of a yacht, one looking out onto the horizon and the other overlooking the beach club and entertainment area on the yacht’s bow, thus forming, rather simply, the infinity symbol. The Infinity concept maintains Rossinavi’s signature sporty lines, typical of high performance boats with spacious outdoor areas and custom interiors by designer Fulvio de Simoni. “Infinity defines a new sportive and elegant design,” says de Simoni, designer of the project.“We realized that there was a gap in the market for this particular boat concept and decided to develop Infinity.” Infinity consists of four superyachts in different lengths: 42, 50, 59 and 69 meters that maintain Rossinavi’s signature sporty lines, typical of high performance boats. Or, as de Simoni describes, “four boats; four

different experiences out in the sea.” Speaking on behalf of Rossinavi, COO Federico Rossi explains, “with Infinity we wanted to overcome the challenges of allowing wide common areas for entertaining within a possibly limiting sporty design.” As such, the yachts feature a fast displacement hull that achieves speeds of 20 knots capable of preserving consumption at low speeds. This hull with 7-8 feet draft, contributes to the vessel’s versatility making it ideal for both transoceanic navigation as well as shallow waters. Infinity also boasts superb stability even in demanding weather conditions that have allowed for design variations to accommodate the owner’s cabin on the vessel’s upper floor. “The sporting spirit of the project nevertheless maintains Rossinavi’s high standards in terms of comfort and sea attitude,” concludes Rossi.

As Vallicelli explains, “Vanitas is not vanity, but an expression of sublime beauty.”
