This booklet outlines for you all the opportunities that are on offer within this exciting programme that takes place for all students on Wednesday afternoons. What is the Evolve! Programme? • A range of activities to complement your fulltime studies increasing your skills and knowledge - helping you to evolve! • These are grouped within the following areas: Make One, Show One, Active One, Talk One, Present One, Research One, Challenge One, OneFest, Innovate One, Explore One. What is on offer? • The following pages outline all the activities, the number of places available and the length of each course. What do I get from the Evolve! Programme? • The opportunity to explore a new territory. • To develop interests and skills in areas where you already have some knowledge.

EvolveOne: Arts & Sports MakeOne: MakeOne is your opportunity to make a mark in the field of visual arts, design and media production. You will work towards a final exhibition or celebration of the work produced in this programme both in Suffolk One and at other venues in the local area. We will invite practising artists to work with you and inspire you.
ShowOne: ShowOne sets out to enhance and enrich your performing arts experience. You can sign up for dance, drama, music and production arts. This will be an exciting opportunity for you to perform, work as part of a team, collaborate and showcase your talents and achievements at the end of each term. There will opportunities to work alongside professionals in the Performing Arts industry.

Participate in a number of dance workshops and choreography classes in all styles including: Street, Contemporary, Break, Jazz, Tap, Modern and Salsa. Workshops will culminate in a showcase performance.
Explore acting, improvising, scriptwriting, directing and Physical Theatre. Workshops will build towards an original performance.

Choose from a range of musical activities, including: Orchestra, Swing/Jazz Group, Voice Squad, String Group, Wind Group, Samba Group, Choir, Rock Bands, DJ Production and Recording Studio Technicians. There will be a series of gigs, concerts and recitals each term as well as lunchtime busking and jamming spots.

Get a handle on all the various team roles within the area of live events and production management. Areas covered will be lighting and sound, video and audio production, stage management, stage makeup, front of house, marketing and box office. Students will work towards the staging of showcases, fashion shows, exhibitions and screenings at the end of each term.

EvolveOne: Arts & Sports (cont.) ActiveOne: This is all about sporting achievement and developing experience in the sports and leisure industry. You can represent Suffolk One as the member of a competitive team, learn new skills and enjoy an active life with other students. You are invited to trial for the various sports teams below. If successful, you will remain on the activity for terms 1 and 2; if unsuccessful, you will be assigned to one of your alternative choices for terms 1 and 2.

This programme will enable students to design and prescribe fitness programmes for a range of abilities, e.g. circuit training, weight training, cardio-vascular etc. These will be delivered in the community as an outreach programme, there may be work experience opportunities, e.g. shadowing a personal trainer.

This award allows you to challenge yourself to a new level achieving a Bronze Award. The award will require you to carry out: • Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community. • Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities. • Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests. • Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad. For Bronze, this is a weekend away doing roughly 15km a day, based on a pre-planned route.

Community Sports Leaders Award (CSLA). This sports leadership qualification gives candidates an opportunity to lead children in sports related activities. There will be an opportunity to develop short fitness programmes, team sports, physical play activities with primary age children. In addition part of the course will focus on working with children with learning difficulties.

Ever wanted to put your curiosity into action? Publish work which will be read by up to a thousand people? Then join the editorial team at One Mag, Suffolk One’s very own student magazine published every half term. This is your chance to be a journalist, take photos, write articles, design pages and report on the happenings at Suffolk One through the medium of print. You will also be influential in promoting the student voice in the centre as well as advertising key events and activities throughout the centre.

This is a great opportunity to learn how to write creatively. You will use the skills learned to write a play or pantomime for a performance in the Drama Theatre, or for exhibiting in our Suffolk One Mag. East Anglia has an amazing local history. This is your chance to research this history and create a website for all to access. You will be able to focus on the experiences of World War 2 in Suffolk, attend local history seminars, visit historic places, look at documents held in the archives to develop your understanding of the topic and upload content for the website.

Join Jason and the Argonauts! The JASON Project connects students with great explorers and great projects such as Operation Tectonic Fury, Operation Monster Storms. You will get a chance to apply your knowledge to the realworld scenarios scientists face every day through conducting geographical/ geological research and uploading it onto the National Geographic Website for all to access. You will also be involved in weather forecasting and research for Force One Radio and the One Mag.

Are you curious about who we are, why we are here, what is right and wrong and why people hold differing views? Do you want to help in building bridges across different communities? The Interfaith Forum will give you an excellent chance to get involved with local and national peace organisations. You may even get a chance to visit or present your case to the Parliament of Religions. Best of all, you’ll get a chance to develop friendships with school children in another country with the possibility of visiting them on a peace mission.

Engage in the political activities of the UK Youth Parliament and use your energy and passion to change the world for the better. You will do this by getting involved with campaigning for issues supported by the Parliament such as: abolishing university tuition fees, free recycling for schools and the introduction of a public transport discount card for young people. Shadow a government minister, a councillor; attend a UKYP event; vote in the UKYP election or stand for election to become a member of the UKYP. This will give you an amazing opportunity to meet once a year at the UK Youth Parliament Annual Sitting and organise events and projects, run campaigns and influence decision makers on the issues which matter most to young people.

Did you always want to get involved in organising exciting events and learn the skills of events management? Then the One World Festival is for you. This is an amazing opportunity to organise a series of events across an entire week showcasing the many vibrant cultures of the UK. Events will range from dance and theatre performances, concerts, to martial arts displays and other interactive activities. You can be as creative as you wish and you will be involved in every aspect of the planning, organisation and hosting the festival from acquiring venues, hiring artists and managing the actual events on the day.

EvolveOne: Be MMad: Mentoring Project A high quality mentoring and befriending scheme. You will be trained to take up the role of mentor to another young person - this may be within Suffolk One or to a younger student in one of our partner schools. At the end of the course you will awarded an OCN certificate plus you can gain points for VInspired. To apply: At this stage you simply need to indicate your interest on the application form.
VInspired: Volunteering Project A national organisation that organises the voluntary work you want to be involved in whether it is assisting in classrooms, running a charity fashion show to community radio and sports events. You will receive credits and a certificated accreditation for your work. In the Autumn Term everyone will be introduced to the scheme by the professional local team. Suffolk Young Chamber Suffolk Chamber of Commerce invite you to become involved with local businesses through real work activities such as being responsible for running visitor programmes or running different events at Suffolk One after receiving training from the professionals. You will receive an internal certificate for your work. Students will be selected by the Chamber of Commerce

Beans Means Brains provides school lunches for primary school children in Uganda. The aim is to promote the education, health and well-being of the children by providing a nutritious meal each day. We provide over 130,000 meals a year and the difference that the programme makes to the children is tangible - increased attendance at school, better concentration, more energy and improved results.

One Worker You may have already decided on your future career path. This will be an opportunity to arrange relevant work experience that will help you achieve your dream. For some occupations eg medicine, teaching this work placement will be a necessity.

Additional Opportunities
Funds raised will be used to meet the ongoing costs of food purchases as well as replacement equipment and meeting the costs of the local kitchen staff. We will also use some of the funds for agricultural projects to grow food - beans, cabbages, spinach, sweet potatoes - to contribute to the large amount of food that over 600 hungry children need each day!
