What is FOODSCAPING? Foodscaping is a cool way to say Edible Landscaping. It is bringing food production home, to your home, to your yard. It is landscaping with a variety of food-producing plants that are beautiful, nourishing, and sustainable. It is replacing useless lawns with low-maintenance and productive fruit trees, berry bushes, native plants, medicinal plants, vegetable and herb gardens, rain gardens, and more. Think, a backyard grocery store meets functional and beautiful landscape design.

Remember the VICTORY GARDEN?

Many of us call to mind the backyard garden plots of our grandparents, the Victory Gardens that helped them weather times of war and economic hardship. Many can remember the family apple or cherry tree, the grape arbor, or the backyard chicken flock. “Foodscaping” was a way

BEAUTY and FOOD SECURITY! We don’t often think of edible plants and vegetable gardens as ornamental, but they can be. Most of the berry bushes, fruit trees, and medical flowers are as beautiful as they are productive. Peach trees, cherry trees, apples have gorgeous blossoms every Spring. Many native bushes have stunning fall foliage.

Want MORE IDEAS? How about a privacy hedgerow of blueberry bushes, hazelnuts, or elderberries? Or tastefully placed fruit and nut trees in the backyard, and strawberries as ground cover under and around your bushes and fruit trees. You can even add a native Paw Paw patch with their tropical fruit, curb appeal, and deer resistance!

Old Blue Eyes

by Annie Vinatieri CCI

(Certified Comprehensive Iridologist)

Constitutional Iridology tells us that there are three main eye types that each eye falls under. Lymphatic, Biliary/Mixed, and Hematogenic. Looking at these irises, we can see some clues about a person’s overall health.

Frank Sinatra was famous for those “Old Blue Eyes”! So, let’s look at the Lymphatic (Blue) eye more closely. Just as the name sounds, there may be a tendency towards lymphatic system stagnation and holding. Practically, people with blue eyes can present with issues including the following: digestive upset, joint issues, upper respiratory tract, lymphatic tissues (spleen, tonsils, appendix, lymph nodes), sinus congestion skin irritation, etc. They tend to struggle with eliminating organ-specific or systemic toxic buildup. As they age, hardening arteries are not uncommon.

Of course, under the Lymphatic Iris tent, there are many specific sub-types and individual iris markings that tell us a personalized story of health or lack thereof.

Here are a few tips for my blue-eyed friends to keep the lymph flowing and help maintain optimum health:

1Eat clean and organic, non GMO. Watch dairy and gluten consumptionminimal to none!

2Drink 8-10 glasses of purified water daily- start with warm lemon water in the AM.

3Dry brush the skin 3 times weekly before showering or bathing; and/or regular sauna or sweating.

4Consider adding liquid chlorophyll to your daily intake of water.

5Jump, bounce, or similar movement daily.

The lymph system is often overlooked in conventional Western medicine for the important role it plays in overall immune function and healthy blood circulation. When we nurture this system in the blue eye, better health follows!
