“Two great clubs” were the words Steve Borthwick used in describing victory at Kingsholm two weeks ago, which finally put Tigers ahead in the win count against ancient rivals.
Tigers celebrated four hardearned points in a 20-14 triumph which ended a long run without an away win and an even longer run chasing down Gloucester.

It was a significant moment as the end of the 227th meeting of the clubs dating back to 1891 was also the first time Tigers had ever been ahead in the head-to-head scores, 110-109.
As Tigers historian Stuart Farmer noted, Tigers were 21 wins behind the Cherry and Whites in December 1992 before starting to close the gap.
This latest victory at Kingsholm secured a home-and-away double for the season and Tigers have now won four of the last five meetings of the teams.
It was the 30th win in 111 trips to Kingsholm, where Gloucester have won 77 encounters, with four draws.
Befitting Borthwick’s description, the two clubs have produced a series of memorable matches, including some recent meetings recalled in the Tig Blog on the club website:
2006-07: Honours even

2006-07: Biggest stage
Inspired by powerhouse performances from Seru Rabeni and Alesana Tuilagi, Tigers became Premiership champions for the first time in five years with victory at Twickenham.
2007-08: Drop in
Tigers became the first team to ever win a Premiership semifinal away from home with a last-gasp drop-goal from Andy Goode defeating the top seeds at Kingsholm.
2008-09: Quick start

2008-09: Long reach
Geordan Murphy’s drop goal from inside his own half was among the highlights in a 24-10 home win.
2010-11: Points shared
An incredible 41-41 draw was memorable mainly for an Alesana Tuilagi hat-trick and an interception try from Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu in the last minute for the visitors. Freddie Burns, then of Gloucester, still had to land the conversion for a share of the points.
2015-16: Narrow margin
Tommy Bell’s conversion of a Logovi’i Mulipola try just 90 seconds from the end put Tigers in front for the first time at Kingsholm.
2016-17: Super Sam
Try Against, Try For, Try Against, Try Against, Try Against, Try For, Try For, Try For, Try For as Sam Harrison became hero of the hour, scoring two tries and adding the conversions in an opening-day win at Kingsholm.
