Tigers had never previously played this late in the year as they ended the season with a 5-5 draw at home to local rivals Northampton. Harry Edmiston was the tryscorer. 1955
Tigers equalled the club’s latest-ever finish to a season with a 17-15 win over Sale at Welford Road. George Cullen kicked four penalties, while full-back Brian Small converted the try by Peter Konig.

Bristol denied Tigers a fourth John Player Cup win in five years with their 28-22 triumph in the Final at Twickenham. Described as the best Final in the tournament’s history, it also signalled a last appearance for skipper Steve Johnson while serious injury ended the career of wing Tim Barnwell who required surgery to remove a blood clot on the brain after a first-half collision.
On an emotional afternoon, Martin Johnson, Neil Back and head coach John Wells - with more than 1,000 Tigers appearances between them - said a fond farewell to Welford Road after a 45-10 victory over Wasps. Backrower Back scored his 125th try for the club, with Harry Ellis, Daryl Gibson, Geordan Murphy and Dan Hipkiss also on the mark.

Tries rom Garry Adey (3), Mike Brownhill (2), Trevor Spence (2), Chris Baynes and David Matthews completed a 41-15 win over Cheltenham in the Floodlit Cup. 1977
Paul Dodge, Steve Kenney and Robin Money were named in the squad for the Middlesex Sevens but Tigers crashed out after a 34-0 defeat to eventual winners Richmond. 1982
A try from Tim Barnwell and the kicking of Dusty Hare gave Tigers victory on the final day of the season, beating Ballymena 21-18. Loosehead prop Ray Needham made the last of his 126 first-team appearances on the trip to Northern Ireland.
Tigers ended the season with a 40-22 defeat at Bristol despite tries from Chris Tarbuck, Chris Johnson and Tom Reynolds, and finished second to Bath in the Courage League table.
Opeti Fonua was among the tryscorers in his final game for the club, during a 31-17 win over Worcester as Tigers stayed fourth in the Premiership table with one game remaining.
