ENF ANT TERRIBLE The youth. Now more agressive, more cunning, and more ambitious than ever. The ever-changing characteristics of generations of youth as we’ve ever seen on recorded history. Our voices are roaring like thunder. Our opinions are piercing through the veins of the close-minded. Yes, we are eager to be heard. The opening lines of the poem, “Howl”, by Allen Ginsberg are a classic. It speaks of the truth. It ascends through time. We are driven. So driven that sometimes, we are driven by madness. Depression and anxiety are no strangers to us. We are looking for a temporary fix. A fix that can even scar us for the rest of our lives. Despite all of that, there is one thing I admire about the youth. The youth is a team, and with that much human power, it can achieve what it wants. There’s only one thing I can tell you now, though: we have a long way to go.

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix. Angel headed hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo with the machinery of night; who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat up smoking in the supernatural darkness of cold-water flats floating across the tops of cities contemplating jazz. Who bared their brains to Heaven under the El and saw Mohammedan angels staggering on tenements roofs illuminated; who passed through universities with radiant cool eyes hallucinating Arkansas and Blake-light tragedy among the scholars of war. Who were expelled from the academies for crazy and publishing obscene odes on the windows of the skull; who cowered in unshaven rooms in underwear burning their money in wastebaskets and listening to the Terror through the wall who got busted in the pubic beards returning through Laredo with a belt of marijuana for New York. Who ate fire in paint hotels or drank turpentine in Paradise Alley, death or purgatoried their torsos night after night with dreams, with drugs, with waking nightmares...
