GREEN GIANT’S RECORD-BREAKING CASSEROLE FEEDS MORE THAN 3,000 NEW YORKERS IN TIME FOR THANKSGIVING By Rachel Silver With America’s Thanksgiving holiday around the corner, Green Giant wanted to do something giant to raise awareness about the importance of giving back. The brand first achieved the largest serving of green bean casserole in 2017 to mark the inaugural year of its float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and decided that attempting to break its own record would be the perfect opportunity to make a large impact. "Green bean casserole is an iconic Thanksgiving dish, and true to form for Green Giant, we wanted to do something giant to bring attention to the importance of giving back to the community this season," said Jordan Greenberg, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at B&G Foods. On 20 November, a team of ten chefs from Stella 34 Trattoria along with Green Giant representatives gathered at Macy’s in Herald Square, New York City to create the massive casserole dish, cooking for a total of eight hours. According to Green Giant, the average bake time for a typical serving of green bean casserole is only 25 minutes! With official adjudicator, Michael Empric, onsite to verify the record in realtime, it was confirmed that Green Giant successfully surpassed its 2017 record of 637 lb with a new total of 457.674 kg (1,009 lb)! The team used an estimated 125,000 individual green beans in the recipe (or 1,069 cans of Green Giant Cut Green Beans) in addition to 485 cans of mushroom soup, 65 quarts of milk, and 95 pounds of French-fried onions to create the record-breaking dish. While it sounds like an excessive amount of food, it was all donated in the spirit of giving. Green Giant partnered with Citymeals on Wheels - a local non-profit that prepares and delivers holiday and emergency meals each year for the city's homebound elderly - to donate the casserole to those in need. "We're proud to partner with Green Giant to deliver servings of the record-breaking casserole to Citymeals on Wheels recipients," said Beth Shapiro, Executive Director of Citymeals on Wheels. 2

Eggs, and especially egg yolks, have been unfairly characterized as heart attack-inducing cholesterol bombs. But while they do contain a fair amount of cholesterol, studies have shown that eating eggs does not raise bad cholesterol levels. On the contrary, eggs represent a complete protein, which means that they contain all nine essential amino acids. Protein is a lot more filling than simple carbohydrates, so eating eggs in the morning can keep you on a good track all day. One particular study found that people who ate eggs for breakfast were able to lose more weight and trim their BMI (body mass index) further than people who had a bagel.

THE GOLDEN EAGLE TRAIN Trains were the backbone of any country’s economy back in the days of the industrial revolution and they still are the lifeline of communication for all. Massive coaches sitting on tracks travelling long distances for hours, equipped with necessary amenities evoke a sense of romance and experience unlike any other sort of travel! Hardcore travel enthusiasts have an expression that many find to ring true — they say that one has not experienced the attractiveness of train of travelling until they have boarded the Trans-Siberian Express. The Golden Eagle has the very intimidating itinerary exceeding eight different time zones using a very long tour of 2 weeks embroidered with lavishness and comfort in every way. The train features extravagance in its centres and decoration with keen attention to detail like climate-controlled interiors in accordance with the season, TVs in every room, an English speaking doctor on board, laundry services and even a resident pianist on board. Travelling with the Golden Eagle is a unique experience from the very first beginning until the end: when you arrive at the station, you’ll be met for a champagne reception in the Imperial Waiting Room. Then a car attendant will escort you to the platform where a brass band will play as you step on board the train for the first time. After you have settled in in your cabin, you can join the other passengers in the Great Lounge and Bar Car and toast your departure with champagne while a pianist plays Chopin. On board you can find an expert who will explain the comprehensive off-train excursions available when you pause at a platform. Furthermore, in the two weeks travel you will go through a culinary journey, sampling some caviar and await the delicacies and Russian regional flavours to arrive from the Kitchen. In the Golden Eagle the comfort begins before boarding the train and goes on also afterwards with 5 Star lodging in Moscow and Vladivostok. 7

GUNTHER-IV—$375 MILLION Gunter IV died, but his heritage has not yet been equalled and his story remains a legend. According to the initial version the money would have been left by a German countess, then the newspapers then told of a lady from Pisa named Antonella, who would leave the sum to be dedicated in part to its maintenance and devolved to the Institute of dermatological clinic from the University of Pisa where Maurizio Mian – a former Pisan pharmaceutical industrialist and former president of Pisa – had saved the dog’s father from certain death. In 1995 it was Mian himself who told the newspapers that the dog’s story had been invented, but I will go on for many years, and Gunther (or the German shepherd of Mian who had this name) also became honorary president of Pisa Calcio. 9

All you need is plastic wrap and a microwave. And an avocado. Avocados are the Internet’s favorite fruit. Everywhere you click, there’s a discussion about how healthy they are, how expensive they are, and whether they’re considered fruits or vegetables. But whether or not you eat enough avocado toast to lose your chances of buying a house, that fruit is still worth keeping in your life—for nutritional benefits and beauty hacks. The problem is finding the best avocado. Once ripe, it only stays good for two or three days before it’s too late. Your best bet is buying an unripe avocado and helping the process along, which saves you time and money—just don’t throw your avocados in the fridge along with these other foods that shouldn’t go in your refrigerator, because they’re best kept at room temperature. Here’s how to ripen avocados at home: If the avocado is not quite ripe and not hard: A ripe avocado in just two minutes?! Yes, it is possible, thanks to this Taste of Home hack for how to ripen avocados. Cut it in half vertically and remove the pit. Wrap each half in microwave-safe plastic wrap. Microwave on high for two minutes. When they’re cool enough to hold, run the wrapped avocados under cold water so they stop cooking. If the avocado is rock hard: Wrap the uncut fruit in tinfoil, and bake on a baking sheet at 200˚F for 10 minutes. (If your avocado is too hard, it could take up to an hour for it to soften. Check every five minutes if it’s not ripe in 10.) Then remove your newly softened avocado. Leave it in the fridge for a few minutes to cool down. If you have time to spare: Keep your avocado in a sealed paper bag with an apple. Poke holes in the bag with a toothpick and leave it at room temperature. The fruit should be ripe in one to three days.

How is this possible? Avocados (and apples and kiwifruit) produce ethylene gas, which helps them ripen. When an avocado is covered with wrap or kept inside a paper bag, the ethylene is concentrated around the fruit and speeds up the ripening process. So thank science that you can eat some fresh guacamole wherever, whenever you want. 14

CRAFT STICK SANTA ORNAMENT SUPPLIES • Craft Stick • Red Paint • Googly Eyes • Black Ribbon • Yellow Button • Red pipe cleaner • White pompom (.5inch) • Cotton ball • String DIRECTIONS  Paint the top 1/4 red, leave a small part unpainted and then paint the rest red. Allow to dry.

15

Attach two googly eyes to the unpainted part of the craft stick. Pull a piece from the cotton ball, mold it to form a beard for Santa and glue to the craft stick.

Glue a white pompom to one end of a red pipe cleaner. We used a glue gun to attach the pompom to insure it would stay in place.

Wrap a red pipe cleaner around the top of the craft stick to form a hat, so that the end with the pompom is the top of the hat.

We wrapped the pipe cleaner around the craft stick and then took it off, so you can see how it is wrapped

Glue a black ribbon around the craft stick near the center for Santa’s belt. Glue a yellow button to the center of the black ribbon.

Cut a small piece of ribbon, form a loop and glue to the back of the craft stick to hang the ornament.

OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT It’s not just olives and their oil that offer health benefits – the leaf of the olive tree is also handy to have around the house. Olive leaf extract has been used as a natural fever reducer since at least the early 1800s. It was also found to treat malaria. Researchers have discovered recently that it is the elenolic acid in olive leaves that functions as a broad spectrum antibiotic that can kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi. 17
