ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO LAILY SHOLIKHAH - 2019
This portfolio contains process about me in getting to know architecture, through selected 2014-2019 projects
HELLO! My name is Leli, 23 years old. I am bachelor of architecture from Sepuluh November Institute of Technology in Surabaya. I've learned about architecture for ďŹ ve years. I love to arrange and plan things about form and space. I feel happy if architecture can be useful for humans and they feel comfortable living in it. In the past year, I learned a lot about the technical aspects of architecture, and the process in an architectural project from preliminary design, design development, detailed engineering drawing, and so on. I realize that it is not enough to be an architect only with a good design concept. An architect must be able to think complexly so their good design concept can be realized and not reduced by other aspects. I hope to have an opportunity to learn and develop my skills in architecture.

01 The location is at the intersection between Pemuda Street and Yos Sudarso Street Surabaya. The location of the site is in front of the Pemuda Hall. There are many community activities around this location because it located in the center of Surabaya city.
Location of the site at the intersection makes this site accessible from many sides. The mass of the building is arranged so the site has an open side near the intersection. People who pass the road around the site can be attracted to come to the building.
This design purpose is to create a useful and refreshing public space for the community around the site and also has a function that provides beneďŹ ts for activities at the Pemuda Hall.

BIOPHILIC APARTMENT
02
With a background that Indonesia needs a productive population to get benefit from the demographic bonus phenomenon, which will occur in 2028-2032. Every year Indonesian labor productivity tends to increase, but it still below the average level of productivity of other countries.
Generation x and millennial as the generation group that dominates demographic bonus workers have different work preferences and can influence layout factors because different individuals need different work environments to achieve good work performance.
To answer these problems, architecture as a space for human activity that also plays a role in influencing productivity must pay attention to aspects of the physical environment of a workspace. The physical environment aspects are divided into layout factors and comfort factors.
“Different people require different environments at different times to perform well, depending upon the task they are conducting and personal factors” - Nigel Oseland ( The Impact of Psychological Needs on Office Design, 2009)

DHARMAHUSADA GUESTHOUSE
03
This is my first project in the Architect Professional Education Program. In this studio, we learn to design simple buildings with two or three floors, but we have to finish up to detailed drawings. Dharmahusada is an area that is located in the middle of Surabaya City which has various types of buildings with various activities. Many people outside the city of Surabaya temporarily stop in this area and need facilities to stay daily. The location of the site is in a residential location, so the type of daily lodging chosen is small-scale daily lodging conceptually like a residential house, so the guesthouse is suitable to be built in this location.

LOCATION SURABAYA

The concept that will be applied to this guesthouse is natural. This guesthouse also prioritizes the comfort of residents. The natural concept is applied through the facade once as well as building a plan arrangement. Building facades use a material that represents natural materials, such as WPC, terracotta and exposed concrete. Space layout is also arranged so that each room can get access to adequate sunlight and can look directly at the side garden.

The site is directly opposite the Bank of Bangkok which is also a cultural heritage building. The emergence of coffee shops are rife in Indonesia. Similarly, in the city of Madiun, coffee shops have sprung up in recent times. The client wants to invest his money to open a coffee shop located on Jalan Ahmad Yani Madiun. This road is very strategic because it is close to the park and this street is the location of the car free day event on Sunday.

LOCATION MADIUN

The concept applied in this shop is an open outdoor concept. Clients want most of their coffee shops to be outdoor areas, so people become more interested to come. The indoor area is only 44m2, used for the kitchen, indoor dining area, and toilet. The coffee shop combines white and gray colors made from simple materials to minimize construction costs.

aa house
AA House is a house owned by an Arga and Adit, a couple lived in Semarang City, Central Java. This project has site area of 147 sqm. The house is inhabited by a couple who do not have children. Clients want to have a house in which space has a minimal room divider. They wants the ďŹ rst and second oors of the house to be connected to one another, so there is a void in the middle of the house. This void also functions to make the house feel cooler and all sides of the room get enough sunlight.

D O L LY V I S I T O R C E N T R E Architecture Competition
Dolly was initially a funeral complex famous that was closed in 1966. Since then it became a brothel initiated by Dolly Khavit in 1967 (hence its name). The people living in Dolly at that time became dependent on the brothel, such as providing homes, tools, snacks, and other needs related. Consequently, Dolly became the dark side of Surabaya.
DOLLY VISITOR CENTRE
08
In 2014, Surabaya City Government, led by its governor Risma decided to put an end to Dolly localisation as it is believed to be a threat to its community in many ways, not to mention highly against the law of human-trafficking. The plan drastically changed the lifestyle of the citizens at first, with their main income . Dolly greatly reduced desperately needed a mental rehabilitation in finding new source of income. The government executed the development plan in slow steps, such as holding sessions to build community-based workshops and skilltraining enterprises, hoping that the citizens will eventually be free of the brothel-related dependency.
TYPE PUBLIC SPACE
LOCATION SURABAYA
AREA 50 sqm
Eventually, the government could not do it alone; there were a number of people/ institutions that also played role in re-building the area and the people in and around dolly. One of its attempts was to help the community (esp. girls and families) put their lives back together so that they dont have to sell their bodies for a living. This includes providing help-funds for community's startup businesses and buying land/ property to be transformed to a public place such as museum and local gift-shops. Actually, there are that want to take part in the development process, however the process and system is many hands still so the help often does not reach the ones in need. Hence, the purpose of this project: unorganized to provide a place for visitors to looking for information about the development plan of the new Dolly and for local communities present their businesses/ ideas to sponsors or stakeholders.

The purpose of choosing such location, other than it being the first building seen when one enters Gang Dolly as any information centre should be loocated, is so that the building will change paradigm of its visitors towards the new Dolly.
