STAYING in the EU is a good idea according to a Toys ’n’ Playthings survey run this month. A whopping 76 per cent said they will vote yes, although there are mixed feelings on the matter. Just 24 per cent of the respondents said they would be in the exit camp for the referendum that’s been promised to the British people for next year – and that fell to 14 per cent who believe membership of the EU hinders their business. One proEU respondent outlined the differences between working with businesses around the world: “Around 20 per cent of our turnover is with customers from other EU countries. We do export to some non-EU countries but it is much more difficult and costly to do so. A second one said: “Safety legislation has made life more difficult for the crooks and incompetents. The European Free Trade Area has enabled freer movement of goods, benefiting consumers of our products.” However, a respondent from the Exit Camp said: “The EU hinders my business with inconsistent application of IP rights, and inconsistent food and toy safety standards.”
