Ask the retailer

What do you stock in Christmas cards that sells well?

I always rely on a few great suppliers for packs - The Art File, Museums & Galleries, Cinnamon Aitch and Noi all do well for me, and offer a nice varied selection of style and quantities. Charity packs are always the best seller.

For individual cards both relations cards and funny cards sell well - anything with a good (and possibly mean) festive joke. Ohh Deer and Sunshine Llama have done some good ones recently. I find people often buy one or two packs for general sending, and then think a little more carefully about close family and friend cards.

Is there anything you would like to see in this sector?

Good and funny relations cards are still a bit of a struggle. And I think price-point is a challenge - people are buying more cards than usual at Christmas so I always bear that in mind and try to have a nice mix.

And what are your favourite brands for gift wrap?

Artebene has always been a go-to for the excellent quality roll wrap, and immense festive volumes required!

It’s great to see some of the UK suppliers dropping in more options for Christmas roll wrap, too. It means I have more suppliers to turn to and more variety and flexibility.

But I’m always on the hunt for the perfect bold and bright contemporary festive roll wrap - it would be great to see some of the amazing single sheets turned into rolls, but I understand there is a cost issue.

Does anything particularly stand out in this sector?

I absolutely adore Noi and its Christmas packs - they sit so well between modern and fun, with a hint of traditional. They appeal to my younger customers who maybe don’t send in bulk but want some cute and colourful festive cards. And the quality is always excellent
