October proved an important month for the Baby Products Association as it raised its profile to the industry at Harrogate International Nursery Fair. Here, it announced the winners of its annual awards – the Concept & Innovation Awards and the Baby and Nursery Trade Awards (BANTAs).
This year, the association also reintroduced its much-coveted Handbook, which is a definitive guide to manufacturers and suppliers of baby products. The association’s team also discussed the benefits of membership at the show, and with a potentially challenging year ahead for the UK, it has never been a better time to join and reap the benefits of advice and support on offer.
Robert Anslow, managing director, explains: “It is sad to hear stories of companies – particularly small businesses – which are struggling with legal battles such as stolen trademarks and IP; employment disputes which damage reputations; and any other number of issues which can potentially threaten a business. These are all issues that the Association can provide free help and support with via its business helpline and affiliations with legal advisors and Trading Standards.”
The free Quest Business Support line offers 24/7, 365 day access and has experts on hand to help and advise on legal, HR, health and safety and tax matters. Members also have access to a website document library with literally 100s of documents to download and use.
Robert continues: “With membership costing as little as £35 a month – less than most monthly phone contracts – this service alone is worth its weight in gold, particularly for small businesses in times of trouble.”

BANTA winners
After much deliberation by judges, the Baby Products Association has announced the winners of the 2022 Baby and Nursery Trade Awards (BANTAs). These industry awards, sponsored by Nursery Today, are open to exhibitors at Harrogate International Nursery Fair and aim to point retailers and buyers in the direction of products, which in the judges’ opinions are best in the show in terms of quality, value and style.
This year, with the impending recession and cost of living crisis, consumers are seeking affordable products and the judges have considered this when choosing the winners, which are as follows: FURNITURE

Concept & Innovation Awards
The Baby Products Association announced the winner of its 2022 Concept & Innovation Award at Harrogate International Nursery Fair on 17th October. This is Jennifer Lake with BUG Grip, a clamping device that can immediately create a double buggy or connect a scooter, trolley or similar product with a quick twist and click of its universal head.
Jennifer was presented with her award by Marc Hardenberg, chair of the Baby Products Association, who commented: “All three finalists had incredibly inventive ideas this year and the judges had a really difficult time deciding which entrant would be the overall winner. However, BUG Grip stood out as a solution to an everyday problem faced by many parents; it is a clever design and it was felt that the product has the potential to be extremely marketable.” Jennifer will receive a prize of free legal advice from the award sponsor, law firm 3Volution. The two runners up were Gregorz Krynicki with KneeGuardKids – a foot rest for children carried in car seats which is attached to the car and not the car seat; and Katharine Paterson with Karekot, a soft-sided, breathable, washable cot bed with a unique drop side mechanism.
