Welcome to the October issue where our main focus this month is of course the Harrogate Int. Nursery Fair!
With the doors set to open in a few short weeks, as an industry this is such a great venue for us all to get together, see so many brands housed under one roof, experience new product launches and of course spot those all-important trends that will shape upcoming consumer buying over the course of the following 12 months.
This year visitors will be welcomed by a host of exhibitors within five halls – all showcasing products of interest and also perhaps that gem you are all looking for to offer your customers.
This is such a great venue to mix with like-minded individuals within a friendly atmosphere.
There will be many leading nursery brands, for example, BabyStyle, Joie, Nuna, Axkid, Maxi-Cosi, Cybex, Cozy n Safe, Tutti Bambini, Cheeky Rascals, Hauck, Peg Perego, Babymore, Angelcare, Clair de Lune, Inglesina and CuddleCo (to name just a few!). Talking of CuddleCo, there is a change this year with CuddleCo
announcing that they are now the UK distributor of Inglesina – simply turn to page 30 where you will find an article giving you an illustration of what to expect this year on their stand.
Our front cover this month you will have noticed is adorned by BabyStyle who have always been a firm supporter of independent nursery retailers. This month you will notice a change on their stand at Harrogate. Celebrating their 25th year, BabyStyle will transform its infamous gin bar into a champagne bar, offering a

luxurious experience for attendees as they toast to 25 years of innovation and growth. The entire BabyStyle stand will be dedicated to celebrating this milestone and will also feature a secret room that promises an eggcellent surprise for visitors. “We’re incredibly excited to bring back the secret room this year,” said Andy. “Retailers should expect the unexpected. No photography will be allowed, as we want to keep the element of surprise alive for consumers when it comes to the launch.”
To further commemorate their silver anniversary, they will also release special edition strollers that capture the spirit of the milestone. Turn to page 10 to read all about it!
If you’re looking also to unwind and pop your party feet on at the end of the first day of the show, make sure you pop into your diary to join everyone at the Sunday After Show Party (13th October) in the Royal Hall (located between Hall A and M - simply leave the fair from either hall’s exit, immediately next door is the steps leading up into the Royal Hall), where there will be free drinks and canapes and a live band to create a great party atmosphere.
Remember also that Harrogate is the home of the coveted BANTA and Concept & Innovation Awards! The winners will be announced on the first day of the show (Sunday).
This year we also welcome a new judge to the BANTA jury – our very own columnist, John Barker, who is well known for his knowledge of the industry. Why not turn to page 16 to read John’s thoughts on the upcoming Harrogate show.
You will find our great preview of the
show giving you a fantastic taster of what you can expect to find within the halls this year starting on page 19 and of course, if you haven’t already, make sure you pre-register your attendance to the show by simply visiting www.nurseryfair.com.
Looking forward to seeing you all there – remember to stop me and say ‘hi’ if you spot me racing around the show halls!
Rockit Rocker receives a prestigious ‘Good Housekeeping Institute Approved’ endorsement
The team at Rockit are celebrating a massive achievement as their stroller rocker has been named as one of the rst nursery products to achieve this coveted seal of approval in the UK.
Since the Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI) rst opened its doors in 1924, they have been testing and reviewing products and services to nd the very best. This year they have expanded their state of the art product testing into the world of parenting.
All products are put through the GHI’s rigorous testing processes, evaluated by experts using a mix of their own scienti c knowledge, industry experience and specialised equipment in the lab to put brands’ claims to the test.
Matt Dyson, Rockit co-founder said “As a consumer I know rst-hand how important the GHI Approved seal is. It has o ered me reassurance when I have been comparing products to buy myself, so as a designer I am delighted that our Rockit Rocker has been approved by such a trusted and prestigious body. This will have a massive impact on our brand and we have already started printing new packaging to let our customers know the good news.”
Laura Cohen, Commercial Director of the Good Housekeeping Institute commented “Data here at Hearst UK shows that parents with children under the age of 16 are a third more likely to say that product reviews have a major in uence on purchasing decisions than the average consumer. We’ve seen this rst hand with the GHI Approved endorsements over the years, and are now looking forward to working with the most innovative and exciting brands in the parenting space.” www.rockitrocker.com

Pick up your copy of the updated child car seat guide
The Baby Products Industry Association’s (BPIA) free comprehensive child car seat guide – Child Car Seats – ending the confusion – has been updated and is available to download from the BPIA’s website.
First published in October 2021, several areas of legislation have changed since this date and the new booklet re ects the current laws and regulations giving both retailers and consumers a comprehensive guide when selling or purchasing a suitable car seat, in particular the end of sales of R44 car seats in EU and NI from 1st September 2024 (see page 33).
Hard copies of the new booklet will be available from the BPIA (Stand Q12) at Harrogate International Nursery Fair. Retailers are also able to request copies of the brochure for distribution in-store.
Julie Milne, general manager of the BPIA, explains: “We cannot reiterate enough the importance of purchasing car seats from knowledgeable and reputable retailers, who will advise which car seat best ts your make and model of vehicle; and also demonstrate installation to ensure that it is correctly tted. This guide will help both retailers and consumers to understand the new regulation and make informed purchases based on fact”.

As BabyStyle looks forward to the next 25 years, the Harrogate Nursery Fair will serve as a launchpad for continued growth and innovation. The company is eager to collaborate closely with its retail partners to enhance in-store presence, create compelling content for product launches, and build momentum heading into the new year. “We’re incredibly thankful to our retailers for being on this journey with us. Their support has been vital to our success, and we’re excited to continue these partnerships well into the future. See us in Harrogate –stand Q12
The Baby Products Industry Association (BPIA) looks forward to catching up with members old and new at Harrogate this year; and invites those who have not already joined the industry trade association to come along and nd out more about the bene ts of membership.
Julie Milne, general manager of the BPIA, explains: “Many manufacturers and suppliers of baby products who are not members don’t realise the important work of the trade association but are actually bene ting from the collaboration of companies which have been working together for many years to not only ensure the safety of babies and young children, but to provide a fair and level trading ground for the industry. It is often at a time when their own business faces an industry challenge and needs help that they seek the advice and assistance of the BPIA. If it wasn’t for the support and commitment of our members; there would be no membership association on hand to provide that crucial help. We hope that companies attending Harrogate who are not already members, will pop by our stand to discuss potential membership and discover how, as an industry, we can all work together.
Meet the Concept & Innovation Awards finalists
The nalists of the 2024 Concept & Innovation Awards will be presented on the BPIA’s stand at Harrogate. These important industry awards support design and innovation in the baby products industry recognising new product ideas from people from all walks of life including existing businesses, students and parents discovering a gap in the market.
Check the BPIA website at www.b-p-a.org to read more about this year’s nalists. The judges will be conferring at Harrogate and the winner will be announced at the show. The award is once again sponsored by law rm Brabners which will be o ering the winner a prize of £1000 towards legal costs to help get their product idea into production.
Furniture and Furnishings regulation update
There is still con dence in the industry’s objectives being met with baby products being removed from the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations and con rmation being received that the handful of products not included in the initial exclusion list would be added. However, the consultation responses from the August 2023 consultation have still not been published and the recent change of Government is likely to slow this down further.
The new minister will need to get up to speed and be happy to sign o the new Regs with child care articles excluded and there is no guarantee this will happen, although OPSS feels it has a robust argument for exclusion, supported by its research ahead of the consultation.
The BPIA has requested meetings with relevant ministers and will keep members updated.
An update on the Association’s technical work within BSI, CEN and ISO has been added to the members’ area of the website and members are encouraged to familiarise themselves with this and contact Julie Milne on 0845 456 9570 or by emailing julie@b-p-a.org with any questions.
BPIA objectives
The main objectives of the Baby Products Industry Association are:
1. To promote the baby and nursery products industry as being professional and responsible
2. To promote product safety and compliance in the nursery industry
3. To provide commercial and technical support to our members
4. To represent the industry to government departments in the UK, EU and elsewhere, as well as local authorities who have an interest in this eld
Without the ( nancial) support of its members, the BPIA could not represent the UK’s baby products industry on essential UK and International product safety standard committees and workgroups.
This would create a signi cant commercial and technical disadvantage for baby products companies who want to operate safely and pro tably in the UK and International markets.
Check out the BANTA finalists for the best 2024 products
The BPIA is hosting its much-coveted Baby and Nursery Trade Awards (BANTAs) at Harrogate this year. Sponsored by Nursery Today magazine, these awards are open to entry for all exhibitors at Harrogate. Julie Milne, general manager, explains: “The awards have been running at the show for many years and are held in high regard by everyone in the industry. The judges are all industry experts in the nursery sector and the judging criteria is di erent from similar consumer awards. Products are judged not only for design and functionality, but also for safety, ease of use, desirability and importantly price point and value for money. For example, a fabulous new pushchair with an RRP three times higher than similar products, might well win a consumer award for outstanding features, but the BANTA judges might consider it less marketable for retailers due to the prohibitive price point.”
This year, there are nine categories: Travel, Tech, Furniture, In the Nursery, Clothing & Textiles, Baby Essentials, Baby Health & Wellbeing, Toys & Educational and Best New Product.
The winner of the Best New Product category will not only receive a trophy presented by sponsor Nursery Today magazine, but will also receive a fabulous prize of a free 3D & Augmented Reality for their product, courtesy of ARkid.
ARkid Studio o ers ARkid Catalogue, a game-changing product visualisation software tailored for brands and retailers in the industry. This powerful tool e ortlessly creates 3D and augmented reality viewers, product photos and videos with just a few clicks. The web-based software generates web-optimised 3D con gurators, 360-degree turntable videos and 3D product renderings.
The nalists and winner of the BANTAs will be announced on the BPIA’s stand (Q12) at 4.00pm on Sunday 13th October 2024.
A dragon in the baby world
Nursery Today sat down with fashion entrepreneur and investor, Touker Suleyman, known for his keen eye on the BBC hit show Dragons’ Den, to discuss his investments in the baby industry and what’s to come.
What interested you in investing in the baby industry?
It’s a market ripe for innovation and growth, the modern parent doesn’t just want a product that works, they want a product that fits seamlessly into their lives, their homes, and their values. This is reflected in all three of our main brands: Little Hoppa, Matchstick Monkey, and Babocush.
Have you noticed a di erence in the way consumers are currently shopping for nursery products – when considering the ‘cost of living’ situation?
In the current economic environment, parents are looking for better quality products that will last them over the years. The consumers are growing more aware of the fact that buying the inferior option often can cost you more money in the long run and consider purchases more. The longevity and quality of materials is something we focus on a lot in product development. Our Little Hoppa 3-in-1 for example is made of sustainable wood and multifunctional so it grows with your child from newborn to preschool. Would you say we have su cient innovation and new product launches within our industry or would you like to see more?
We need more mumpreneurs, especially in areas of babywear and childrenswear - they have hands on knowledge of the product and the requirements. Little Hoppa, Matchstick Monkey,
Touker Suleyman talks to Nursery Today about revolutionising the baby industry with style, sustainability, and functionality
and Babocush were all founded by women who saw the need to solve a problem they came across in their day-to-day family life’s and developed smart solutions to ll that gap.
Katie Windridge invented Matchstick Monkey unique teether that reaches molars and has a teething gel applicator to help with her daughters teething pain as nothing else worked for her.
So e Hepworth developed a stylish wooden toy system with Little Hoppa as she didn’t feel any of the existing plastic bouncers on the market were aesthetically pleasing or versatile enough. That spark of innovation came across when she pitched on Dragons Den in 2022 and I decided to invest in her business.
The Babocush Comfort Cushion was developed by Kerry Nevins to nd a support for baby’s struggling with colic and re ux like her son did.
What importance do awards by recognised organisations hold for brands and why?
It’s great to be recognised and celebrated. It also shows the customer that they can trust in the product and other parents and experts within the industry rate it. Matchstick Monkey has won multiple gold awards in the teething and bathtime category across the years. Little Hoppa’s product excellence has been recognized with Reddot Best-of-the-Best award for its groundbreaking design.
Looking ahead, are you excited to showcase at Harrogate Nursery Fair this year?
We are thrilled to be showcasing our Little Hoppa and Matchstick Monkey products at Harrogate Nursery Fair in October to engage with the industry and gather valuable feedback. The fair is the perfect platform to showcase the quality of all 3 toy stages that Little Hoppa brings to the market in a live environment. We also show Matchstick Monkeys’ latest range, including our exciting new Baby Electric Sonic Toothbrushes. Natasha Leviton and Emily Heseltine, who are heading up the sales team, will be leading the stand (C21). They’re looking forward to seeing everyone. www.littlehopper.com www. matchstickmonkey.co.uk

Barking Mad
Pramland’s John Barker is getting excited on two fronts this month – first up from his trip to Bugaboo and secondly the doors to the Harrogate Int. Nursery Fair are soon to open!
I’m only two weeks into the month and so far, it’s been amazing! Yes, the store has been busy, and we’ve seen plenty of customers heading to the till clutching their wallets, but this isn’t what has got me grinning like the Cheshire Cat. A few days ago, myself and Kevin (AKA Paul) from York took the long trip down to the very picturesque Henley-On-Thames to visit Bugaboo. What a lovely, sleepy little place it is. We fought the urge to jump into a boat and make like Redgrave and instead opted to head to the office for our meeting.
To cut a long story short (I need to as I need to mention Harrogate soon) I managed to find a certain something hidden in the corner of the office, tucked away behind the photocopier –no doubt in an attempt to stop prying eyes from seeing it. Unfortunately for the person that tried to hide it, and fortunately for me it wasn’t done very well and I whipped it out (Ooh err Missus). The moment my VERY excited hand touched the handlebar I was immediately informed that this DOES
NOT mean it’s coming to the UK! I promised not to mention the name as Bugaboo don’t want you all to read this as their promise that it’s coming, but I think we all know what I’m referring to. I’ve been in this industry for the best part of 20 years almost and I don’t get excited about many new products anymore – but this has me “Hopping!” around the office! The push is simply sublime, the weight distribution system genius and the room it provides our little “Joey’s” is class leading. Bugaboo have done it again and this thing, IF it comes to the UK (please Santa!) is guaranteed to redefine the market. Yes I am slightly biased (I really do have a Bugaboo tattoo) but take my word for it - if this does come to the UK and you don’t stock Bugaboo – oh dear. Well done Bugaboo on the product but try harder to hide it next time.
So, on to the main topic for this month – Harrogate. It’s almost here and my diary is once again bursting at the seams with appointments. I’m sad to see a few brands that we’ve
become used to seeing in the halls won’t be there, I’m especially sad that M&P are skipping this year for two reasons – A) they’re a big brand that most of us stock and B) Tore is always my first appointment on the first day, and now that tradition has been broken. Oh well, at least they are teasing something exciting for November (looking forward to this and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that M&P once again become a major player in the wheels category with what they show us).
I know I said this last year (check it, you’ll find I really did) but I’m keeping everything crossed that BabyStyle have “Oyster 5” to show us. The recent emails relating to certain colours only being available in certain bundles would suggest that colours are going, is it to make room for the new Oyster? I can’t even start to calculate how many Oyster 3’s we’ve sold since it launched, but the time has come for it to be replaced with a successor. We’ve noticed sales coming away from it towards newer, flashier options namely the Venicci range in the recent months and I’m hoping that a new Oyster, launched in the new year would have a transformative effect on the brands sales for us. Please Andy, we all want Oyster 5!
In other big news relating to Harrogate I’m pleased to announce that I have been asked to represent the independent nursery retailers in the BANTA Awards committee. I’m really looking forward to seeing the entries and hope to bring a new view to selecting this year’s winners. I do need to put it out there that I am NOT open to any bribes at this time - but speak to me closer to the time and offer me libation and I may be more accommodating LOL. Only kidding, I will however remain completely unbiased and impartial – the
perfect example of a professional independent judge. Plus, I’ve been promised tea and cakes, so sign me up! This year I have managed to make a little more time than usual for a mooch around. Normally I leave a little time and invariably end up leaving without seeing anything I haven’t pre-booked. It’s a huge shame as the halls are filled with products and brands that deserve to be seen and spoken to. So, if you find yourself at a loss between appointments why not head over to some of the smaller stands, you may just find your next big seller. We all moan about the general public shopping with the big boys online and not using us “little retailers” - we are doing the same if we don’t give these guys a chance! Exhibiting at the show is not cheap and these small brands need the support in order to survive. A good show could be the making of them, likewise a bad show could mean the end – and that isn’t something the industry needs. Come on people support your fellow little guys this show!
I guess that means it’s time to finish up this month. I hope to see as many of you as I can either in the halls or in the bar. It’s a lonely life being an independent retailer, but strangely the industry has a wonderful vibe and it’s amazing that there are genuine friendships between competing businesses. To have access to like-minded people that you can share your trials and tribulations with really is wonderful and the benefits cannot be underestimated. Building relationships with brands is equally important and it’s truly fabulous to get to know many of you better each time we meet. If you’re wandering the halls and happen across me, don’t be a stranger. See you all in Harrogate!
Retail matters
This month The Nursery Store’s CEO, Christy Foster is proud to announce their re-brand and the business moving forward.
In early September, we proudly took the next step in our brand’s evolution, transitioning from Online4baby to The Nursery Store. This rebrand has been a significant milestone for both the business and for my sister Cheryl and me personally. Online4baby has, excuse the pun, been our baby for decades. We’ve nurtured it from humble beginnings selling on market stalls around Manchester and Leeds, to those first successful listings on eBay, and eventually launching the Online4baby.com website. Every step of the journey has been full of lessons, growth, and an unwavering commitment to families. However, after listening to our customers, we knew it was time to modernize, to better align with their expectations and the evolving industry.
The response from both our loyal customers and our brand partners has been overwhelming. The Nursery Store represents more than just a name change; it’s a reflection of our deep understanding of what today’s families need. It positions us as a trusted, go-to resource for parents at every stage of their journey, offering not just products but solutions, and that repositioning has already introduced us to a new audience. The positive shift in customer perception since the rebrand has been immediate. We’ve seen an influx
of new customers, drawn to the fresh, contemporary feel of The Nursery Store while still benefiting from the reliability and quality they’ve always known from Online4baby.
I’d like to take a moment to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible team, particularly our marketing and development teams, who worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence have been integral to the success of this rebrand, and we couldn’t have done it without you. You’ve turned a bold idea into a reality, and we are so grateful for everything you’ve done.
Trade show season has also been an exciting time for us. Cologne was a great success, filled with valuable conversations about how brands are performing and how we can collaborate more closely. This year, we made more new connections than ever, with many partners taking a keen interest in our rebrand to The Nursery Store, which launched just as the show began. The energy and enthusiasm were palpable, and it’s clear that this transformation has resonated with both new and existing partners. Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to be heading to the Harrogate Baby Show in October, where we look forward to presenting more of
The Nursery Store represents more than just a name change; it’s a reflection of our deep understanding of what today’s families need.
The Nursery Store to the industry and continuing these invaluable conversations.
As we step into Q4, we’re already noticing some early Christmas shopping patterns, particularly as families begin planning ahead. However, as has been typical for this time of year, sales have largely been focused on bigger-ticket items, such as travel systems and nursery furniture. It’s no secret that the current economic climate is challenging, and we’re acutely aware that many families are tightening their belts, holding off on spending as they wait to see how government budgets unfold. We empathize with the tough decisions many households are making, and we are proud that The Nursery Store remains a trusted partner for families navigating these decisions.
For our brand partners, too, this has been a period of reflection and adaptation. We understand that these are
challenging times for many, and we are proud to be a reliable partner through it all. Our rebrand offers an even stronger platform for growth and collaboration, ensuring that together, we can continue to meet the evolving needs of families across the UK.
This is an exciting time for The Nursery Store, and we are only just getting started. The journey continues, and we can’t wait to see where this new chapter takes us. www.thenurserystore.com
Happy Harrogate
Taking place in the charming town of Harrogate, this annual fair attracts a diverse range of exhibitors and visitors, making it a must-attend event for anyone involved in the sector.
A host of key leading nursery brands, together with smaller edging companies (who often o er something a little di erent for nursery retailers and which can grow to become the next ‘must have’) will be showcasing a variety of products across ve halls of the Harrogate Convention Centre.
One of the key reasons the Harrogate Int. Nursery Fair holds such signi cance is its role as a showcase for new products and trends. Exhibitors range from established brands to emerging start-ups, all eager to present their latest innovations, for example, in car seats, wheeled goods, nursery furniture, toys, monitors, bathtime products and more! This variety not only highlights the competitive landscape of the industry but also o ers visitors a comprehensive view of what’s available and what’s on the horizon.

The Harrogate Int Nursery Fair 2024 is set to be a pivotal event in the nursery and baby product industry, providing a unique platform for innovation, new product launches, networking, and discovery.

Fair. The event attracts a diverse group of like-minded professionals, from retailers and suppliers to manufacturers and designers. Another highlight of the fair is the recognition of excellence within the industry, as visitors have the chance to see rst-hand the award winners of the coveted BANTA and Concept & Innovation awards. These awards celebrate outstanding products and innovation, providing visitors with a curated selection of high-quality items to consider for their own businesses. Understanding what products are deemed best in class can help retailers make informed decisions that resonate with their customers.
Andrew Hammond, 123ABC
For attendees, the bene ts of visiting the fair are twofold. Firstly, it serves as an invaluable opportunity for retailers, distributors, and industry professionals to engage directly with nursery brands. This face-to-face interaction strengthens relationships and facilitates negotiations, which are crucial for businesses looking to stay ahead in a fast-evolving market. The fair also allows buyers to explore a wide array of products in one location, making it easier to compare options and make informed purchasing decisions.
“Product demonstrations are vitally important as we need to fully understand the products to do them justice and represent the brand in the most positive way possible.” Gary Watts, WH Watts
One of the standout features of the show is its emphasis on product demonstrations. Exhibitors often provide hands-on experiences with their products, enabling visitors to test functionality, assess quality, and gauge the practicality of items rst-hand. This interactive approach helps visiting retailers feel con dent in their buying choices, ensuring they stock products that meet the needs of their customers.
Moreover, the fair is an excellent venue for spotting upcoming trends in the nursery sector. Attendees can gain a competitive edge by understanding these trends early and integrating them into their strategies. Networking is another crucial aspect of the

Nursery Today caught up with independent retailers
W.H Watts and Snuggle & Stroll to find out their thoughts on the Harrogate Int. Nursery Fair.
Gary Watts
W.H. WATTS PRAM CENTRE
Why is Harrogate important to you as a nursery retailer?
Harrogate is important as it brings together a good percentage of the nursery industry under one roof and gives us the ability to see new products and engage with those suppliers.
It also gives us the ability to bring most of the team along to see those products and brands.
Will you be focussing on a particular product category this year whilst visiting?
This year we’ll be focusing on wheels plus also smaller items such as Bedding and Monitors.
Do you seek out brands who are running show only offers and how important are these important to your business?
We will take the time to see as much as possible but apart from shop floor models we will not be purchasing very much unless it is on offer.
What do you feel are the main benefits of visiting the show?
The main benefits are viewing products, giving the team the ability to see those products and to engage with suppliers and other retailers.
Do you have any specific goals whilst visiting this year?
We are going with a very open mind this year and are very much open to new products and brands.
Is this a good event to spot upcoming trends, new products and innovation?
In the main, yes it is.
How important are product demonstrations to you while at the show?
Product demonstrations are vitally important as we need to fully understand the products to do them justice and represent the brand in the most positive way possible.
Will you be brand focussed whilst in the show halls or will you also seek out new companies exhibiting with perhaps something different to offer your customers while walking the halls?
We will be brand focused to a degree but are most definitely open to new products from new suppliers.
Overall, what are your expectations of this year’s event?
I am looking forward to seeing new products, getting these products into store and engaging with both suppliers and other retailers.
Sophie Dembrey
SNUGGLE & STROLL
Why is Harrogate important to you as a nursery retailer?
Going to Harrogate enables us to plan for the future by making connections with our suppliers.
By seeing what’s new and trending, this helps us plan our stock and shop display. It facilitates us to meet new concessions, which enables us to see what else is on the market.
Will you be focussing on a particular product category this year whilst vising?
We are toying with the idea of expanding our small nursery items and gifts, so it will be great to see what’s on offer. However, it’s always lovely to see everything that’s available at Harrogate.
Do you seek out brands who are running show only offers and how important are these to your business?
It’s always nice to buy items on an offer, but it’s not something that’s at the forefront of our criteria. But we’re only human, who doesn’t love a bargain.
What do you feel are the main benefits of visiting the show? For us, we benefit greatly from seeing our brand reps face to face as this allows us to make great relationships which helps all of us going forward. We are still a fledgling business continuing to grow, so getting our shop out there really supports our business.
Do you have any specific goals whilst vising this year?
This year we will be bringing two members of staff and it will be lovely for them to see what we see as this will ultimately increase their product knowledge, which in turn will benefit our customers.
Is this a good event to spot upcoming trends, new products and innovation?
Absolutely! This is one big reason as to why we’re coming. It’s so fascinating to see what’s coming on the market. We always think ‘surely there’s nothing more the suppliers can do’ but then we’re blown away with what they come up with. We’re so excited to see everything.
How important are product demonstrations to you while at the show?
Very important because we like to know we are demonstrating the products correctly and can make it look effortless to use, as this is a big factor customers consider when buying anything.
Will you be brand focussed whilst in the show halls or will you also seek out new companies exhibiting with perhaps something different to offer your customers while walking the halls?
We’re very open to try anything if we think there’s a gap in the market and our customers will like it. Plus, with our staff coming too, we can discuss this as a team.
Overall, what are your expectations of this year’s event?
It’s our second year going and we’re really looking forward to visiting Harrogate. We’re excited to come away, having seen new products and learnt a lot more. I’m sure everyone’s got some exciting newness to show us.

Lorretta Owen
JOLLY TOTS
Why is Harrogate important to you as a nursery retailer?
Harrogate provides the ability to catch up with everyone in the industry. Those that perhaps you usually only speak to via email or on the phone. It’s also so important to keep up with all the latest products, colours and all the fabulous newness. We love the buzz that is created at Harrogate and we find that goes on for several days. With those attending sharing sneak peaks of the latest designs, models and colourways with the staff that stayed behind and ran the stores. We are always really excited awaiting the new designs to put on the shop floor.
Will you be focussing on a particular product category this year whilst visiting?
We will be looking to extend our electrical range. Along with the baby carriers that we stock. We are also on the hunt for more baby accessories such as baths, sterilisers etc. We are open to expanding our range and would look at stocking almost anything.
Do you seek out brands who are running show only offers and how important are these important to your business?
In the current economic climate who doesn’t love a discount? We are actively looking for offers during the show. This is often the deciding factor in the quantity of item that we decide to order.
What do you feel are the main benefits of visiting the show?
We feel that the show really helps to bring the nursery industry together. During the harder financial times it’s great to catch up with other retailers and companies to “chomp the bit” and talk to others that understand the industry from the inside. It also helps to spark the excitement for new models and colours.
Do you have any specific goals whilst visiting this year?
We are always trying to add to the brands that we stock. I have been so happy with the new brands and accounts that we have opened but as ever I’m always looking to add more. There are a number still on my list.
Is this a good event to spot upcoming trends, new products and innovation?
Harrogate is the perfect hub to spot the upcoming trends. It gives us an insight into to what colours are going to be must haves for the following year. To see all the fresh new colours is always a welcome relief. After nearly one year with colours it’s easy to become a little fed up of them. Nothing was more true than when we were in the Grey era!
We often see the same product on a number of stands just under different brand names. This was especially true of the gravity folding stroller launched a few years ago! However, we love the enthusiasm each brand has for the new launches.
How important are product demonstrations to you while at the show?
It’s exciting to see the demonstrations taking places. My nephew Harvey, manager of Evesham store, is a whizz when it comes to demonstrations and so competitive he can’t wait to have a go for himself.
Will you be brand focussed whilst in the show halls or will you also seek out new companies exhibiting with perhaps something different to offer your customers while walking the halls?
As a business I wouldn’t say we are particularly brand focused. I would say we are open to everything. Brands, products etc. I think we live in a constant evolving time and it does no business any favours to be set in their ways.
I’m already excited at the thought of all the brand bags with little freebies inside. You can never have too many drinks bottles can you?
Looking forward to seeing you all there !!

Why is Harrogate important to you as a nursery retailer?
Harrogate has become so important to us as you almost have the whole industry under one roof with a plethora of suppliers and of course vast amounts of new and fresh product.
Will you be focussing on a particular product category this year whilst visiting?
As a business we always go with an open mind when looking for product but as always we will continue to focus more on Prams, car seats and Furniture which still remains a large portion of our business. Do you seek out brands who are running show only offers and how important are these important to your business?
Who doesn’t mind a show deal but it would not be the primary reason to buy into something, for us we want to make sure we are buying into something our customer is looking for rather than being swayed by price.
What do you feel are the main benefits of visiting the show?
Apart from the social aspect which is always great seeing new products and brands and looking for the next golden Egg always makes it worthwhile visiting the show.
Do you have any specific goals whilst visiting this year?
For the first time we do not have any goals we feel we need to achieve but I am always happy to be surprised.
Is this a good event to spot upcoming trends, new products and innovation?
Absolutely the right place to spot new trends and products, once you have had 3 days in Harrogate you get a great sense of colours, trends and innovations that the brands are working on and bringing to the market for the next year.
How important are product demonstrations to you while at the show?
Always great to see brands demonstrating new products at the show but we find that when the reps/agents can visit us instore and demonstrate the products and benefits to staff way more advantageous.
Will you be brand focussed whilst in the show halls or will you also seek out new companies exhibiting with perhaps something different to offer your customers while walking the halls?
Due to space constraints in stores adding new different products become harder every year but we always find a little space if we find a new company or product that we are sure our customer will love. We are a very brand focus business so hunting out the next big one will always be at the front of our minds.
Overall, what are your expectations of this year’s event?
I think this year will be great with a lot of new product launches and new colour inclusions from most suppliers so I expect this will be a very exciting and informative Harrogate show.

CuddleCo’s Sneak Peek into Harrogate 2024
The team at CuddleCo give an outline of what to expect from them at Harrogate International Nursery Fair - without giving too much away!
We love the element of surprise here at CuddleCo, always determined to make our stand more exciting, more animated, and even more jam packed than the year before.
Last year we took you all on a trip down memory lane to revisit your favourite childhood fairytales. Cleverly seeded into our room sets through carefully selected props and accessories, we reminded you of timeless classics including Little Red Riding Hood and James and the Giant Peach.
And we can’t forget about the big reveal of Doona X. The latest revolutionary product from Doona, kept in a secret side room behind lock and key. The product everyone was waiting for, unveiled at Harrogate 2023.
So, ready to hear what we’ve got in store for you this year?
Leading the way in nursery interiors
Bringing interior trends to the nursery has been a key part of our growth as a business and one of the elements that sets us apart from our competitors. Our customers are looking to be inspired and that’s what we’re hoping to do with our latest designs.
We’re forever listening, observing, and taking note of how our customers use CuddleCo products in their nursery and homes. Ensuring we can deliver newness that better represents them and their needs as parents. Which in return, should make it easier for you to sell CuddleCo products.
Take Aria for example, we took a material that was normally reserved for outdoor seating areas or conservatories and created a highly-sought-after nursery range that is worthy of a place on our customer’s Instagram grid.
Honey, I shrunk the Clara
We could have never predicted how popular Clara Cashmere and Ash was going to be. A stand favourite at last year’s show that has been in demand since its launch back in January. The new neutrals trend continues to dominate nursery interiors and there’s no sign of it slowing down anytime soon, with over 150,000 posts on Instagram including #neutralnursery.
A priority for us was to ensure that our bestseller was accessible to all our customers, speci cally those with smaller nurseries. Which is how a mini version of our Clara Cot Bed came about.
Mini in size, but big in bene ts. The Mini Clara Cot Bed still features all the CuddleCo bene ts you’ve come to expect, including 3 mattress base positions, a day bed conversion, and quality design that’s suitable from birth to 3 years.
As well as a cot bed made for smaller nurseries, we’ve designed a Clara Cashmere Changer as a modern alternative to our dresser changer. With two storage shelves, parents have plenty of options for storing nappy changing essentials.
CuddleCo Nursery Furnishings
Through watching our customers create their dream nurseries, we’ve found that décor and accessories are just as important to them as the nursery furniture they choose. These finishing touches help them add personality and character to their baby’s room. So, expanding into nursery furnishings has been a natural progression for us.
First up is storage and developing the Aria range and our rattan product portfolio. From cute storage baskets, to shelving units, to a woven changing basket. We have all the bases covered when it comes to convenient and stylish nursery storage solutions.
Next up are our standing gira es and unicorns. These cuddly stu ed animals will be joining us on our stand at Harrogate. But a warning in advance - you’re not going to want to leave the show without one!
More innovation from Doona
As well as lots of exciting CuddleCo newness, we will be showcasing the full Doona range including the latest viral product for parents everywhere, Doona X. So, if you haven’t yet managed to try out the revolutionary product
for yourself, drop by our stand for a demonstration.
Plus, at Harrogate we will have brand-new Doona X accessories. Introducing the Doona X Pack & Go Basket and the Doona X Storage Basket. These two innovative accessory additions have been designed to speci cally t underneath Doona X in stroller mode, o ering parents convenient storage while on the go.
See you at stand B5
With Harrogate just weeks away we’re superexcited to catch up with all of our loyal customers and say hello to lots of new faces. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on for the past year, and as always, we have a few surprises up our sleeve!

Richard & Laura Smerdon
MY BABY STROLLER
Why is Harrogate important to you as a nursery retailer?
It’s a great event to catch up on everything. See the new products, find great new items and brands to offer to our customers.
Will you be focussing on a particular product category this year whilst visiting?
We are always looking for new brands across all categories, we will be focusing on smaller items this year, gifts, toys, carriers etc.
Do you seek out brands who are running show only offers and how important are these important to your business?
Show offers are great, they do allow us to have better margins, but it’s not the sole reason for meeting up with brands.
What do you feel are the main benefits of visiting the show?
Getting a refresh in terms of information, and products. It’s like intensive training and helps to keep us up to date. Do you have any specific goals whilst visiting this year?
This year we don’t have any plan as such, other than to get
a look at new products that some of the brands are releasing. Some years we go with the intention of picking up new brands.
Is this a good event to spot upcoming trends, new products and innovation?
Absolutely, there’s always a new innovation and its exciting to see what the latest trend might be.
How important are product demonstrations to you while at the show?
Very important, we are a small team and don’t always get the reps out as often as we’d like, so it’s good to see the demonstrations in one place.
Will you be brand focussed whilst in the show halls or will you also seek out new companies exhibiting with perhaps something different to offer your customers while walking the halls?
We are focussing on our existing brands this year but always have our eyes open for something new. Overall, what are your expectations of this year’s event?

As well as maximising breathability, the Air Lite features a gentle incline option to help ease colic and re ux plus seven height adjustments to t most bed heights and frames.
Following the launch of Shnuggle’s new look crib this Spring, the Shnuggle Air Lite Bedside Crib is now one of the UK’s must-have newborn essential items. Created as the ultimate sleep space for babies aged 0-6 months, the compact crib is available in two neutral colourways, grey and taupe, and has amassed many positive comments and reviews in just a few months.
The Air Lite Bedside Crib is similar to the original Shnuggle Air in that it combines the key features of baby’s rst bed to provide a safe and close sleep space from birth. Its spacious yet compact size comforts and cocoons baby, o ering reassurance and peace of mind for parents. The new crib has been thoughtfully designed with breathability, comfort, and reassurance at its core.
The ‘furniture quality’ design ensures a sturdier crib with a premium style that doesn’t compromise on function and it can be used as a standalone crib or attached to the bed for bedside sleeping. The dual view, mesh sides maximise air ow as well as allowing parents to keep a watchful eye on baby and the zip down side is ‘whisper quiet’ to prevent disturbance and you can easily feed or comfort baby during the night.
As well as maximising breathability, the Air Lite features a gentle incline option to help ease colic and re ux plus seven height adjustments to t most bed heights and frames.
Following the popularity of the new product, Shnuggle recently worked with Netmums to nd out more about what parents love most about this beautiful product. 20 parent testers put the Air Lite Bedside Crib through its paces as part of the Netmums Test and Review Programme.
Overall, the Air Lite received 5-star reviews from happy parents and there were some key areas that stood out from the feedback.
• Babies slept better (therefore parents also slept better)
• Air Lite Bedside Crib was praised for its modern, stylish design and premium, sturdy quality
• The incline option to help ease any colic or re ux was highly praised and made a noticeable di erence in baby’s comfort and sleep quality
• The mesh sides allowed parents to easily see baby but also o ers maximum breathability .
Reviewer @Becka1989, said; ‘The Shnuggle Air Lite Bedside Crib has truly been a game-changer for our family. From the moment we set it up it was clear that this crib was designed with both parents and babies in mind. One of the standout features is the ‘whisper quiet’ drop-down side. It’s incredibly easy to use and allows us to comfort our baby without disturbing their sleep.’
Another review from@Mumtoo4 said; ‘Since day one my little one has been in here sleeping and for the rst time in weeks, I’ve had a good sleep too as I can easily turn round and make sure my little one is OK. With this being next to my bed and easily accessible also helps with feeding during the nights.’
And @Missjp90 said: ‘The mattress is great quality and feels comfortable and supportive for my daughter. She sleeps in the Shnuggle so much better than her Moses basket. It is light and airy and I don’t worry about her overheating in the crib.’
“We’re very proud of the success of the new Air Lite Bedside Crib. Our original Shnuggle Air Crib, which was the only crib on the market to convert to a full size cot, was hugely popular for many years but we saw a demand for a more compact size crib to suit any room size which was more in line with the size of other cribs on the market and we took the opportunity to make some design improvements whilst retaining all the features of the Shnuggle Air. We are over-the-moon with our customer feedback and the results of the Netmums Test and Review Programme.” Sinead & Adam Murphy, Co-Founders, Shnuggle.
The Shnuggle Air Lite has an RRP of £180

Why is Harrogate important to you as a nursery retailer?
Very important and it’s a highlight in the industry, great to network and see what’s the latest all in one place. Will you be focussing on a particular product category this year whilst visiting?
I would love to see a high-quality medium price double buggy, currently there is only high or low end I believe.
Do you seek out brands who are running show only o ers and how important are these important to your business?
Not too important as our budget is not high, but will take up o ers, with calculated decisions based upon demand and customer/sale forecast. What do you feel are the main bene ts of visiting the show?
Brand newness, updates, bonding and networking. Do you have any speci c goals whilst visiting this year?
To see as many new products, take promo videos, make content and build up hype for our customers. Is this a good event to spot upcoming trends, new products and innovation?
De nitely for products and innovation, not sure for trends. I will say social media is winning for trends. Will you be brand focussed whilst in the show halls or will you also seek out new companies exhibiting with perhaps something di erent to o er your customers while walking the halls?
I will be mainly brand focused, but don’t mind taking on a few new companies, I’ve got a few people noticing me since being featured in Nursery Today!
Overall, what are your expectations of this year’s event?
I’m very excited to visit this year. Everything I see needs to be bene cial for sales: knowledge, product launches, content, demos, etc. It’s Lovely having the biggest and best under one roof. I do hope every major brand are involved, spoils it when brands are not present. I believe every main/major brands should be there, even if it’s a small presence. The show is the best opportunity to show o to everyone and anyone. Personally, for those not exhibiting I don’t really understand why they wouldn’t want to come.

Safely seated
Hall B, Stand: B27
KneeGuardKids footrests improve child’s safety while in the car.
A child’s dangling legs cause not only discomfort but also lead to adverse e ects, which may be dangerous when traveling by car. If the child does not sit in the correct position, even a slight collision or emergency braking may have serious consequences. The child’s limbs may su er multiple injuries. Car seats will protect a child e ectively only if it maintains a correct sitting position in a car, like a crash test dummy. KneeGuardKids footrests assist in creating and maintaining the correct sitting position. The crash tested footrest helps to maintain correct position of the child in forward-facing car seats without a leg support in place whenever travelling by car, regardless the distance. This footrest will eliminate numbness in the child’s legs as they will no longer lean against the edges of the car seat which causes pressure under the knees. What’s important, KneeGuardKids, when supporting legs, makes the child’s back rest against the seat and their head remains within the protected area. It is easy to assemble and adjust to individual needs of a little passenger. It is suitable for children up to 9 years old. info@kneeguardkids.uk www.kneeguardkids.uk
