Direct 4 Baby

New product launches are definitely viewed as an important part of business. Direct 4 Baby are more of a specialist independent retailer and we don’t have the huge marketing budgets that the nationals have access to or some of the more established independents, so we feel that product launches generate a significant interest and drive customers into store. For example, the new Egg launch was staged over weeks and months and through various forms of media which generated lots of leads and in turn orders. I’ve not seen anything like that in the industry for quite some time and it was quite refreshing and bold to invest such a huge amount in advertising, which I truly believe paid off. Customers were wowed by the marketing, but it also helps that the product is great too! Victoria Hampson

5 Point Plus Anti-Escape Celebrates 10 Years

It is estimated that more than 70% of toddlers wriggle their shoulders out of the car seat straps, rendering the child car seat useless in a collision.

The issue with child car seats is that, even with a correctly tted harness, a toddler can easily push their arms under the straps.

After 10 years supplying the multi-award winning anti-escape accessory to leading retailers around the world, and licensing to Cosatto, 5 Point Plus decided to introduce a new model that aims to prevent toddlers learning to escape in the rst place. Up until now parents had to wait until their child rendered their car seat ine ective before taking action.

What happens in the event of a collision? Neither rear nor forward facing child car seats are safe in the event of a collision if the toddler is improperly restrained. The child will be at risk of life changing or lifethreatening injuries.

Collisions only happen to other people, right? No one intends having an accident, but research shows that children increase driver distraction, and an escapee child does provoke parents to take their eyes o the road in front of them.

Product Launcher spoke to Richard Knight, Founder of 5 Point Plus, on why they have lowered the starting age for their anti-escape system. Speaking at the launch in the Japanese market Richard said “It is important that children do not learn to wriggle out of their harness in the rst place. Prevention is better than cure! We have identi ed that parents are more receptive to safety messages when they rst have their baby. By lowering the age group to 6 months it is easier for retailers to reach parents of new babies and help raise awareness on how to use a car seat correctly.”

The 5 Point Plus is now available in one size and is adjustable for infants aged from 6 months through to 4-year-olds (model No. 5pp0648). Not only helping to protect children from an earlier age, but it is also simpler for shops to stock.
