comfort zone. It’s not that I’m uncomfortable around guns – it had more to do with not knowing anything about skeet shooting. They gave me a tour of Indian River Shooting Sports (also known as the Indian River Trap and Skeet Club), and I learned there’s more on 82nd Avenue besides sand mines. What an impressive facility. It’s operated by Mick and Emma Howells. Mick is a former sporting-clay world champion. Bill and Mary Pettigrew wanted to give me a tour of the 26-acre facility because they want to spread the word about it – in particular, they’re hoping seasonal visitors will discover it. Right now, there are about 90 members. “The man (Mick) has worked tirelessly to make

improvements,” Bill said. Bill and Mary are great ambassadors for shooting sports. Bill surprised me when he said he and Mary don’t hunt. “We don’t kill anything,” he said. Their hobby is shooting at clay targets. “There are no fixed targets here,” he said. “Everything here is a moving Russ Lemmon target.” A few years ago, Mary didn’t have any interest in shotgun shooting. But a woman let her borrow a shotgun at a shooting range, and Mary was hooked. “It’s addictive,” she said. The year’s biggest event at Indian River Shooting Sports, located at 5925 82nd Ave., is the Caribbean Classic. The event, expected to draw 200 competitors from around the

The rest of the time, I’m an NPA (No Party Affiliation). Well, because I’m fascinated by the race for the Republican nomination for president, and the role Donald Trump is playing in it, I decided to become a registered Republican earlier than normal this year. Florida’s Presidential Preference Primary is scheduled for March 15. Thanks to Cathy Boyle, an election specialist at the Supervisor of Elections office, for making the switch so painless. “A Chorus Line” is now No. 6 on Riverside Theatre’s list of all-time most popular plays. (There’s a photo of the women on LemmonLines.com.) JoAnn’s husband, Bill, died in May. JoAnn’s daughter-in-law is Cindy Carson, who owns Dragonfly Designs. In going through Bill’s books, Cindy had the opportunity to take the book with the $380 inside, “Alexander the Great’s Art of Strategy: Lessons from the Great Empire Builder,” but passed. It was on top of a big stack. This week’s “Good Sport Award” goes to Bevelon Theriault for allowing me to take a photo of her while underneath a hair dryer at Cuts ‘N Such Hair Salon. I had to take it – she was reading a certain newsletter. The photo is on the Lemmon Lines page on Facebook – it’s a good one! Super Bowl prediction: Denver 27, Carolina 24.
