All this time, I thought the Beach Town Music Festival was Jake Owen’s idea. That’s not the case. We have a company in Iowa to thank for the two-day event, scheduled for Oct. 7-8 at the Indian River County Fairgrounds. “The Beach Town Music Festival was our idea,” said Andrew Thompson, who is with Basis Marketing and Entertainment in Forest City, Iowa. Owen, who is from Vero Beach, will be the headliner for Saturday’s show, which will feature six country acts. Friday is “rock” night, with Bret Michaels and the Gin Blossoms among the four national acts to take the stage. It’s going to be a big deal – the expected attendance is 7,500 each night – and the plan is for it to become an even MusicWorks, Inc. & Paris Productions Present

The county is charging a rental fee of $20,000 for the fairgrounds. Terms of the 13-page contract include the music ending both days at 11 p.m. Russ Lemmon Basis has put on similar music festivals in Iowa, Colorado and Kansas. Next year, it has festivals scheduled for North Carolina and Iowa. (Headliners for these events include Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton and Jason Aldean.) Jake Owen is a natural headliner for the inaugural Beach Town Music Festival. Earlier this month, my wife and I flew to Indiana for my 40-year high school reunion. We were about ready to leave when I struck up a conversation with a former classmate.
