“I love the location,” he said. “There’s a niche there. We love it.” The Quilted Giraffe will remain open, he said. I asked Billy Moss, a broker with Lambert Commercial Real Estate, whether restaurant owners care if the public knows about the listings. Years Russ Lemmon ago, the typical owner preferred to keep things hush-hush. “The old stigma is not there,” Moss said. Just because a restaurant is on the market doesn’t mean it’ll sell, though. Moss says some purposely put a “bountiful price” on their restaurant in hopes someone is willing to pay it. “If they can get their price, they’ll move on,” he said. OK, if owning a restaurant doesn’t interest you, what about a bar? The Long Branch Saloon, a Miracle Mile landmark, is listed for $895,000. The price includes the liquor license.

“The owner (Dennis Silber) is passing the torch,” said Billy Moss, the broker for the deal. “He has owned it for more than 30 years.” Did you know rental-car giant Avis has opened a facility for car sales at 930 U.S. 1? It’s sharing space with the Budget Rental Car. (Avis and Budget are owned by the same company.) According to general manager Tom Coss, this is the first physical location for Avis Car Sales in the country. He said there will be about 60 cars for sale locally, and he’ll have access to another 1,800 in the Avis system. Two longtime members of the Vero Beach City Council, Jay Kramer and Pilar Turner, decided not to seek re-election in November. Randy Old will be the only incumbent seeking a return to office. Among the six candidates for the three seats is Lange Sykes, who ran for State Representative in the Aug. 30 Republican primary. He finished second behind Erin Grall. a local political consultant: In his State Rep race, Sykes finished third in the Vero Beach precincts. Grall won the city’s five precincts easily, and Greg MacKay finished second. Believe it or not, Brian Heady is not running for council. That’s because he’s running for County Commission – he’s seeking Bob Solari’s seat. (Solari defeated the aforementioned Kramer in the August primary.) If you’re cleaning out your closets and are getting rid of some shoes, please take them to Vero Beach Elementary. The school’s annual shoe-collection drive, which goes until Oct. 31, raises money for the Parent Teacher Association. After 16 years in the Courthouse Executive Center on 14th Avenue, the law firm of Rooney & Rooney will be moving to 1517 20th St. which is directly across the street from the courthouse. They plan to move at the end of the month, but the exterior paint and signage probably won’t be done until mid-October, according to Jane Larsen, the office manager.

Top 500 countdown Russ Lemmon, who loves music (and lists), spent a lot of time putting together his Top 500 favorite songs of all-time. For the next few years, Lemmon Lines will be counting ‘em down. 194. “Two Tickets to Paradise” (1978) Eddie Money Memory: Back in the day, if I were inclined to do karaoke, this song would have been among my top picks. 193. “Come and Get It” (1970) Badfinger Memory: Like many of you, I thought this was a Beatles song the first time I heard it. 192. “Shadows of the Night” (1982) Pat Benatar Memory: She won a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for this one. Well deserved. All the songs thus far in the countdown can be found on LemmonLines.com
