LEMMON DROPS: Hard to believe Oslo Road still without a fast-food restaurant Six bite-size Lemmon Drops to nibble on while waiting for a Donald Trump rally in Indian River County:

Road. Cindy Northrup corrected me, saying it’s actually north of Oslo. “I am not aware of any fast-food restaurants on Oslo, unless you count Dunkin’ Donuts,” she said in an email. “I think Oslo is more than ready for a MickeyD’s or Wendy’s (or ANY fast-food chain), but I am not aware of any on it right now.” She is correct. Despite being four lanes from U.S. 1 all the way to 58th Avenue, Oslo Road still doesn’t have a national fast-food chain – be it McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, Chick-fil-A, or KFC. “It’s only a matter of time,” said Billy Moss, a broker with Lambert Commercial Real Estate. “These national chains
look at rooftops in the area, and there are enough rooftops now. “The (traffic) rhythm has increased dramatically. The national chains wait until the rhythm is strong – they can afford to pay higher prices (for land).” Joe Conrado, whose Conrado Enterprises owns four McDonald’s Russ Lemmon restaurants in Indian River County, says a few years ago, the company was planning to build a restaurant on Oslo Road at 43rd Avenue. But then, he said, the location at U.S. 1 and 53rd Street became a higher priority. “They don’t tell me anything,” Conrado said. “You never know. Somebody could call tomorrow and say, ‘Get yourself ready. We’re going to do that.’ ” No question, Oslo Road is primed to become one of the busiest roads in Indian River County. In about a decade, the new I-95 interchange should be open.

So, how long will it be before a fast-food restaurant is built on Oslo Road? “I’m going to guess maybe 2 or 3 years,” Conrado said. The School District’s former administration building (just south of the County Administration complex) has been leveled. What are the plans for the site? “Right now, we plan on holding it for future potential needs,” said County Administrator Jason Brown. Right next door is a Dollar General store. See, they really are everywhere!” As far as I know, no ground has been broken in October for a new “dollar” store in Indian River County. The Wawa that is under construction at U.S. 1 and 12th Street will have an adjacent plaza with retail stores and a restaurant. What’s the leading contender for the restaurant? “It looks like Popeye’s is going in there,” Billy Moss said. Wow, that caught me off-guard! Have you noticed 93.7 FM no longer refers to itself as “The Breeze”? The station goes by the last three letters of its call letters now – GYL. Some trivia, compliments of Jim Davis, the general manager of Treasure & Space Coast Radio: “WGYL stands for ‘We’re Glad You’re Listening.’ That’s a fact!”
