“Our Wimbledon weekend was fabulous, thank you so much for organizing our 5* Chelsea hotel and chauffer. All worked out perfectly and our Centre Court seats for the Men’s final were amazing, such a great view. From a smoky 1920’s Speakeasy to the Bowery of the 1930’s, from a World War II USO to a 1950’s Manhattan supper club, Swinging on a Star perfectly weaves various settings and scenes with some of the most popular songs of a generation. The journey also showcases music from the “Road Movies” starring Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. Songs include: “Road to Morocco,” “Going My Way,” “Moonlight Becomes You,” “Swinging on a Star,” and many more.

LEMMON DROPS: Something you might not expect coming to U.S. 1 in Vero Beach Eight bite-size Lemmon Drops to nibble on while waiting for the parade of Christmas movies to begin on the Hallmark Channel:

• A big change is coming to U.S. 1 in the area between the

Patio restaurant and Classic Car Wash. A three-story assisted living facility – which has a price tag of $10 million – is expected to open in the late fall of 2016. Renaissance Senior Living will have 60 apartments – 35 of which will be assisted living, and other 25 will be assisted living with memory care. The Senior Legacy Services-operated facility will join restaurants, auto dealers, banks and furniture stores on U.S. 1. “The building itself will face 10th Street,” said Barry Ray, who is president of Senior Legacy Services and one of the partners in the project. “We will landscape to create a little bit of a soft barrier between the building and U.S. 1.” Renaissance will be affiliated with the nearby Grace

Rehabilitation Center. “It’s been a plan in the works for several years,” Ray said. “We wanted to have synergy with the nursing home (Grace). The beauty of it, it’ll be a true campus.” Ray doesn’t see it as competition for a place like Indian River Estates. “We’re all trying to serve (the senior population),” he said. “We feel Russ Lemmon like it’s a good market.” Eye-opening statistic of the week? As reported by Vero Beach 32963, the September air-conditioning system breakdown ended up costing Indian River Medical Center more than $1 million. Predicted order of finish in next week’s Vero Beach City Council election (two seats): 1. Dick Winger; 2. Amelia Graves; 3. Laura Moss; 4. Harry Howle; 5. Brian Heady.

Predicted order of finish in the Sebastian City Council election (three seats): 1. Richard Gillmor; 2. Andrea Coy; 3. Bob McPartlan; 4. Damien Gilliams. McDonald’s, which made a smart move by offering all-day breakfast, is expected to break ground on a new restaurant by Interstate 95 during the first quarter of 2016. It’ll replace the McDonald’s by Vero Outlets. The new McDonald’s will be on westbound State Road 60, on the last commercial parcel before the entrance to northbound I-95. Pam Cooper, whose weekly history articles appear on page 2, sent an email from a Bob Evans restaurant in Belton, Missouri. “Bob is great in Missouri, too! My husband loves his breakfast,” she wrote. “Asked for Table 51, and they gave me a strange look.” Table 51 in Vero Beach really does exist, folks! Evidence Vero Beach is becoming more of a year-round community: In August, the amount of “tourist tax” collected by local hotels was up more than $10,000 over the previous August,

according to the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce. Last year, $125,653 was collected in August; this year, $135,706 was collected. The City Council races in Vero Beach and Sebastian have been relative snoozers. I mean, could my Sebastian prediction (Damien Gilliams is the odd candidate out) have been any easier? Just wait until next year. The August primary will have everyone’s attention. You won’t be able to travel a half-mile without seeing a campaign sign … or so it’ll seem. Jim Davis, the general manager of Treasure and Space Coast Radio, loves ribbing me about the Top 500 countdown on page 7. He was a DJ in some major markets back in the day. After Flo Rida’s “Club Can’t Handle Me” made an appearance at No. 343 in the countdown, Jim sent me an email with the song’s nonsensical lyrics. “Truly a literary masterpiece,” he wrote. “I bet you read ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ also.” OK, score one for Jim.

Top 500 countdown

Fun facts

Russ Lemmon, who loves music (and lists), spent a lot of time putting together his Top 500 favorite songs of all-time. For the next few years, Lemmon Lines will be counting ‘em down.

Approximately 30 percent of the people living in Indian River County are age 65 and over. That compares to 19 percent throughout the state.

338. “You Get What You Give” (1998) New Radicals Memory: The title says it all about the lives we live, no?

At the other end of the age spectrum, 17.5 percent of the county’s residents are age 18 and under. That compares to 20 percent throughout the state.

337. “Tide is High” (1980) Blondie Memory: Even though this song has no nutritional value, Blondie made it irresistible. 336. “You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth” (1977) Meat Loaf Memory: I don’t like clapping during songs at concerts, but I do it every time when I hear this one on the radio. All the songs thus far in the countdown can be found on LemmonLines.com.
