LEMMON DROPS: Hopefully, a good time will be had by all in Sebastian Seven bite-size Lemmon Drops to nibble on while waiting for Oklahoma to be crowned the NCAA men’s basketball champion:

• I’m in a “fantasy” football league with 23 other guys from

the United States and Canada. We play a computerized game called Action! PC Football. My team name is the Sebastian Swordfish. Each April, several league members get together for the annual draft of college players. Previous draft sites include Minneapolis and Charleston. Our 2016 draft will be held in Sebastian. There are 10 league members – including four from Canada – making the trip to our little corner of the world. Five of them will be staying four nights here. It’s funny how this all came about. Long story short: Last year, in a league newsletter, Capt Hiram’s was mentioned, completely out of the blue, in an article about the Swordfish; I shared the article with ETS T IC K R T AT S TA

Will Collins, who is the general manager of Capt Hiram’s, and he then exchanged a few emails with the author of the newsletter. (The person who wrote the article about Swordfish found the information about Sebastian on Wikipedia.) So, I decided to nominate Sebastian as the site of the 2016 draft. Capt Hiram’s was a natural for the location. Russ Lemmon Collins promises the guys will have a good time at the resort. I sure hope so. As the host of the draft, it’ll be up to me to keep them entertained. I’ve been sending emails to the attendees to let them know about possible extracurricular activities. I’ve suggested a tour of Historic Dodgertown, deep-sea fishing and golf. Do you have any suggestions? In this space last week I mentioned the large chunks of land

being cleared for housing developments along 58th Avenue. I asked Phil Matson, staff director of the Metropolitan Planning Organization, for some daily traffic statistics. “According to Traffic Engineering, there were 9,211 cars on 58th Avenue (49th to 65th Street). The 2040 Travel Demand model (developed by FDOT) predicts 13,700 cars in the same vicinity.” Yikes. Donald Trump dominated the vote in Indian River County in last week’s Presidential Preference Primary. Several months ago, I predicted Trump would not receive the most votes in the county. That made me 0-for-100 in predictions involving Trump. Or so it seemed. Last month, I mentioned the 1929 Model A Ford that Clark Ballard bought in 1957 and still owns today. Bob Livingston told the story of his 1930 Model A Roadster, which he had looking sharp during his college years. “Sold it to a young doctor resident on the North Shore of

(It’s your chance to follow screech owls in a nest as they prepare for the hatching of eggs.) How important is the 1-cent local sales tax? The aforementioned Phil Matson says it’s vital for infrastructure. “Without the sales tax, say goodbye to our roads in the future and the existing quality of life,” he said. As longtime readers know, Bob Evans is my favorite restaurant. Apparently, some snowbirds don’t realize it’s a chain based in Ohio – they think it’s a locally owned restaurant. I had to laugh when retiree Frank Formica, who works part-time at the restaurant, told me what diners sometime ask him when he’s cleaning off tables. “Are you Bob Evans?”

Top 500 countdown

Fun facts

Russ Lemmon, who loves music (and lists), spent a lot of time putting together his Top 500 favorite songs of all-time. For the next few years, Lemmon Lines will be counting ‘em down.

Of these four age groups – 14-under, 15-44, 45-64, and 65-plus – which has the highest percentage of the population in Indian River County?

275. “867-5309 / Jenny” (1982) Tommy Tutone Memory: The most famous phone number in America.

Those in the 15 to 44 age group account for 29.5% of the population. Next would be 45 to 64 (28.1%), followed by 65-plus (27.2%) and 14-under (15.2%).

274. “Superman (It’s Not Easy)” (2001) Five for Fighting Memory: If my wife were to put together a list of her alltime favorite songs, this one might make the Top 50. 273. “Mama’s Pearl” (1971) The Jackson 5 Memory: The lyrics are nothing special, so credit goes to Michael Jackson’s amazing vocal performance. All the songs thus far in the countdown can be found on LemmonLines.com.
