National University of Civil Engineering 78 T H RI LEM WEEK 2 0 2 4 , HA NO I, V IE T NA M
Message Dear RILEM Conference Organization,
Hanoi, February, 2021
National University of Civil Engineering (NUCE) is pleased to express our great desire and interest to become a RILEM collaborator. Established in 1966, NUCE has been one of the leading universities in Vietnam with the current roster of about 20,000 undergraduate and 2,000 graduate students in various top engineering fields. NUCE was among the first four universities of Vietnam to be accredited by an international evaluation organization from Europe, the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES). Over the past years, the Vietnam Institute of Building Materials (VIBM), the Vietnam Concrete Association (VCA) and NUCE have had many cooperative activities and promising results. In this event, NUCE is taking the role of host while cooperating closely with VIBM and VCA with the hope to organize the event with greater achievements, as well as to promote sustainable and creative development. It will be our immense pleasure to welcome you all to Vietnam for the RILEM Convention and Conference 2024. This may well be the first RILEM event in Vietnam. The city of Hanoi welcomes you to the cultural and political center with more than 1,000 years of history of Vietnam, also known as the City for Peace. The NUCE team strongly support the missions of RILEM, which are achieved through collaboration of leading experts in including scholars, researchers, professionals and authorities. We choose the Construction and Building Materials to address in RILEM 2024 as this sector has been considered as a major contributor to global environmental pollution. We expect contributions from interdisciplinary, multiscale, and different approaches to collaboratively achieve Sustainable Development Goals. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam is doing all of the right things, placing the health and well-being of people above all else. This allows us to have the confidence of being able to assure the safety of everyone when organizing important national and international events. NUCE would therefore like to become the official organizer of RILEM Conference. We firmly believe that we will successfully host a fruitful event. Best regards, Prof. PHAM Duy Hoa

Proposed theme
Sustainable Performance of Eco-Building Materials and Structures
Background Construction and building materials sector has been considered as a major contributor to global environmental pollution. The sector consumes a huge amount of raw material resources and energy, and accounts for about 8 to 10% of the total man-made CO2 emissions in the world. The developments in sustainable performance of eco-materials together with innovative structures have therefore become a worldwide trend to minimize the negatively environmental impact of ordinary construction and building materials. However, the developments are also very challenging for material and structural engineers. This conference aims to gather the current state-of-the-art and new developments on the relevant topics in the research field of the sustainable performance of eco-materials and structures to deal with environmental issues such as reduction of green-house effect, recycling of waste materials, design for abnormal actions due to climate changes, etc. Therefore, we expect contributions from interdisciplinary, multiscale, and different approaches. The conference welcomes all ideas on various topics from young researchers as well as leading experts in the form of experimental or modelling issues, and case studies to demonstrate sustainable performance of eco-materials and structures.
Topic Eco-friendly building materials, i.e., cementitious materials, ceramic, glass, composite, paints High-performance cement-based materials and other innovative building materials.
