International exhibition “Welding-2012” – modernization and innovations in welding I’m glad to welcome the organizers, participants and visitors of the international exhibition “WELDING-2012” in St. Petersburg. For 40 years already this meaningful forum have played the most important role for the technological development of Russian industry. I’m sure that the XV international exhibition “WELDING 2012” will create a new impulse and stimulate further development of the innovative welding technologies and will support the conversion of Russian industry onto a new and higher level of technological development and modernization of industrial sector of Russian economy. “Welding” exhibition – 40 years of success The first exhibition “Welding” was held in the exhibition center “Lenexpo” in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) in 1969. Soon it became and still remains one of the most important specialized exhibition in Russia devoted to the welding sphere. The exhibition is held once in two years. Many Russian and foreign companies, now successfully working in welding sector, started their business with the participation in the “Welding” exhibition in St. Petersburg.

Results of “Welding 2010”: Participants The exhibition was participated by 168 companies from Belorussia, Hungary, Germany, Italy, China, Russia, the USA, Ukraine, Finland, France, Czechia, Sweden, Japan. Among them were the Russian and the world leading producers of welding equipment, research institutions, small-scale enterprises, trade representatives. The foreign section constituted 49 companies, i.e. twice more as compared with “Welding 2008” Russian participants- 119 . The Russian participating companies were from St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, Moscow and the Moscow region, Yekaterinburg, Ryazan, Perm, Severodvinsk, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk, etc.

INNOVATIVE AREA DURING THE EXHIBITION “WELDING 2010” The exhibition “Welding 2010” acting under the Welders Alliance of St. Petersburg and the North-West Region for the first time presented the innovative area, which demonstrated the most up-to-date developments in the sphere of welding technologies and equipment: • JSC “AutoVAZ” – the robot-based welding complexes. • modern welding simulators by German and Ukrainian companies. • presentations of innovative welding technologies used during the construction of the Nord Stream • city contest of young welders. • off-site meeting of the leading specialists of the Alliance company-members and the off-site meeting of the “Elektrod” association.

Staff provision for high-technology industry. II Forum of Young Welders Since 2008 the Welders Alliance of St. Petersburg and the North-West Region acting under the support of JSC “Lenexpo” and jointly with the Educational Committee and the Committee for Science and Higher Education of St. Petersburg has organized within the exhibition “Welding” the specialized forums for young specialistwelders who graduated from the technical institutions of higher education and the institutions of secondary vocational education. The Forum of Young Welders presented the most relevant reports, devoted to interesting spheres: “Welding of living tissues”, “Underwater welding”, “Welding in space”, etc. The forum was participated by over 550 students from St. Petersburg and the North-West region.

St. Petersburg – the museum city, the worldknown cultural capital The Exhibition “Welding” is held during the famous period of “White nights” and traditionally provides its participants with a rich cultural program: excursions along the city, visits to numerous palaces, museums, theaters, etc. In 2010 all participants of the exhibition could enjoy the remarkable evening journey along the river with the visit of the outstanding residence of Russian emperors, the famous “Petergoff” museum, the world-known “capital of fountains”. Post-exhibition business tour. After the exhibition the exhibitors could participate in the business tour “St. Petersburg – Stokholm – Helsinki – Lahti – St. Petersburg” with the visit to the plant producing the electronic components and welding equipment of the Finnish company КEMPPI OY. The visit was initiated by the company КEMPPI OY (Finland).

Contest “Golden welding - 2010” The exhibition program traditionally comprised the awarding ceremony for the winners of the contest “Golden welding - 2010”. The trademark “Golden welding” was established in 2004 and is one of the most prestigious and respected awards in welding industry. In 2010 the winner in the section “For introduction of high technologies of the XXI century into the Russian welding industry” became the industrial group “Dukon”, Research and Production Enterprise “Sizod”, JSC “SovPlim”, «JSC “UPC “”World of Welding”, «УПЦ «Мир сварки», Research and Production Company “Engineering and technological service”, and some other companies. In the section “For information support during organization of the “Welding 2010” project” the prize was warded to the Alliance of St. Petersburg and the North-West Region, the regional North-West multisectoral evaluation center NAKS, and MESSE ESSEN GmbH.

Opinions of specialists about “Welding 2010” The exhibition “Welding 2010” was highly evaluated by the specialists of Russian welding industry. Here are only some opinions. D.E. Rybalchenko, the head of the computer-aided-design and technical engineering department of JSC “AUTOVAZ”. The exposition of the computer-aided-design and technical engineering department of JSC “AUTOVAZ” aroused great interest among the prospective customers-users of the robot-based electrical and arc welding. We have got excellent prospects from our negotiations and believe that they will have practical efficiency.
