Le er From the Editor

Welcome to Autumn! The season of cold breezes, sweaters, pumpkin spice, and FALL RALLY! It was so great to finally see everyone at RTC! Standing in front of all of you guys really made me realize that Key Club is my family. I am so proud of all of you for pulling out the stops for this year’s RTC. Seeing you all wake up early on Saturday, cheer until your throats were sore, listening and learning during workshops, and showing your love for this organization truly made me tear up. As a senior, I realized that this would be my last RTC, but I couldn’t have asked for a better last-RTC than this. By the end of the day, I began tearing up listening to the last “How Do You Feel” cheer of the spirit session. Now that RTC is over, it is time to turn our focus to Fall Rally! Instead of going head to head, like at RTC, clubs in Division 28 West must UNITE to show everyone that we are THE BEST IN THE WEST! This year, there will be NO Fall Rally preps, so make sure you and your friends watch the cheer tutuorials when they are ready to be released! Feel free to gather a bunch of your friends and learn them together! If you have any questions abuot the cheers, you can always contact your Fall Rally Task Coordinators, June and Robe! Sadly, I will not be attending this year due to an Honor Orchestra concert, but my heart is there with you guys! As for school, I hope you are all working hard! First quarter just ended, so 1 down, 4 to go! Don’t worry, NO SCHOOL NOVEMBER is just around the corner! Remember not to fall behind in November, because it will be really hard to bring your grades up since we miss so much of November. Thank you for reading the newsletters, and being BEE-autiful souls! L-O-V-E I LOVE MY SEAMONKEYS!

Forever in service

letter from the lieutenant governor

Aaron quiamzon Welcome to the fall Remember to take some time through this beginning of the year to really self-evaluate and reflect. What are some things you can work on? What habits proved to be successful? What is your goal for this new year? There is no doubt that we will all be swamped with work for a while, but remember that it will all be worth it! Juggling Key Club, being a high school student, among many other activities I'm sure you participate in is no easy task. Remind yourself why you joined Key Club in the first place, and how it feels to partake in meaningful service! Never lose sight of your goal - whether it is to raise your GPA this semester or to become the best Key Club member you can be, strive for something and bee sure to achieve it! I hope you're all as excited for Fall Rally as I am! It's hard to believe that this is the last letter I'll write until after we conclude our I am incredibly proud of every officer and member that has been, and still is, planning for this event. There is so much planning that is going into frs, but I hope you're pumped to have a blast! You'll get to meet california Key Club members, learn more about our organization, and cheer your heart out in hopes of winning the spirit stick. I hope you're ready for lots of fun, being asked "How do you feel?" multiple times, and to become a better servant leader.

L-O-V-E, WE OUR LTG! Thank you, Aaron, for all the time, effort, stress, blood, sweat, AND DEFINITELY TEARS, you put into planning RTC. WE LOVE YOU!

REGIONAL TRAINING CONFERENCE

RTC gathers thousands of key clubbers from las vegas together to learn useful knowledge of key club and its charities. This year, region 5 had over 2,000 members attending at green valley hs. Members attended workshops. raised funds for ptp, engaged in service projects, and cheered the whole day.

division 28 west

What is RTC? RTC is also known as Regional Training Conference and it is one of the greatest events a key clubber can ever go to. It's a place where a person can feel loved and be who they are without being judged. A place where kindness is absolutely necessary. RTC is where a person can learn more about Key Club and what Key Club is all about. RTC is an amazing experience because unlike certain events, RTC is a place where we all have something in common, that is, we all want to help our school and community. Throughout RTC you get to meet other people who are in key club and bond with them through workshops. During my time at RTC, I spent most of my time doing the service workshops where I made puffy socks for the elderly, cards for the children, and decorating lunch bags for the Ronald McDonald House. Going to RTC made me felt like I'm entering the world as a new and better person. It makes me feel super happy on the inside and out. RTC makes me feel like an altruistic person that can only look at the optimistic side of life. Overall, RTC leaves me speechless and only experiencing RTC for themselves can explain and understand how truly one can feel about the event.

I believe RTC was one of the few highlights to my senior year so far. I got to interact with different people from different schools. I enjoyed learning about the many community service opportunities there is here in our city. It definitely opened my eyes as to how I can help or make a change to the community just by volunteering. Regarding this being my first/last RTC, I will never forget the incredibly entertaining day I got to share with my friends and of course, SWCTA's Key Club Hannah Tan, SWCTA

Jessica Tran, Desert Oasis

On October 3rd, the Durango Key Club, along with most of division 28 West, North, and South attended RTC! In a mass collaboration of Key Clubs, we cheered like rivals, and ate like comrades. Every club had been cheering for weeks for this, and it showed as we competed. Although our club isn't the biggest, every member definitely fought like champions in attempt to obtain the spirit stick while giving their best. Which allowed us to make a big accomplishment just by passing the first round. Of course RTC was not just an event that brought everyone together, but it was a day where the members of our clubs could really bond and unite as one. Other than the rally, many members and officers were able to learn a lot at workshops and enjoyed doing service. RTC is a classic event for Kiwanis, and Durango looks forward to going again with the goal of winning the spirit stick next year! Durango Key Club Durango Key Club

This year was my first time attending RTC and it went above and beyond all my expectations. At first when I joined key club I thought everyone would stay in their own cliques but at RTC it was one big huge family. Being able to show our school spirit and bond with each other was so exciting especially since we won the spirit stick for D28W! I can't wait for Fall Rally and to make more memories with this amazing group of people Cecilia Gonzalez, SWCTA

RTC was a great experience. I loved the spirit from every school and the amount of fun everyone had. This year was so creative with all the fun RTC had to be one of moments in my life that I will always remember. When I went there I and exciting workshops. Everyone atthe RTCgreatest was kind wanted to show off my school spirit so headbands andone wrote like swcta on myI looked forehead was always ofthings the biggest things forward to in the beginand friendly and everyone looked like they were I put onRTC and I even had had black lines under my eyes. When we got in and sat down and all the schools and ning of the school year, and on October 3, 2015, I attended my final one. having a good time. i have to say that my last RTC got in and we started to do cheers I knew it was going to be exciting. wethe gotbest to go toof workshops I Quite admittedly, it wasWhen one of out my four years as a Key Club was amazing this year! found that I learned a lot of newWCTA stuff and it will definitely helped me out with many things in Southwest. Carlos Tuason, member. The format was completely different from past years, and because When we got to have the actual competitionofI was as to loud as I could I wanted arewere key club that, screaming I was able attend workshops that moretointeractive and win. Just making it into the top six made me so more happyspecific and thentowe made it into top three and I got one idea. Honestly, I learned so excited much that my head started I wanted us to win the division 28 spirit spirit stick. After our final cheer and that we were announced at competition the to hurt from the amount of new knowledge! The spirit that winner. Everyone were jumping and screamingfollowed and so was I. After the competition we got to eat dinner made me an emotional wreck, especially when it was announced and have a dance, the dance was nice way that to have fun and get ittointo relaxthe withTop your6.friends. I’m soweglad I go any further, I still NWCTA made Although didn't went RTC it is definitely something I would lovefelt to incredibly do again next year. Joining key club was something i' m so proud of my club and what we accomplished together, glad I did especially in the midst of a messy time crunch. I’m more than satisfied with my last RTC, and I’m glad I was able to experience it with good vibes, lost voices, AND LOTS OF SPIRIT!

CONGRATULATIONS, SOUTHWEST!

Adventures at Ronald Mcdonald House

Members of NWCTA decorating paper bags at Ronald McDonald House

Ronald McDonald House is a place for families to stay together in times of trouble. Our Key Club helped out by preparing dinner for the families that stay at the Ronald McDonald House. We prepared braised beef, fried plantains, a Tres Leches cake and we hand whipped some whip cream! We also decorated lunch sacks! Im very glad I got the opportunity to volunteer at this event. I felt happy and pleased to be giving back. It is an amazing cause and I definitely suggest you attend anytime you get the opportunity to! Alyssa Gutierrez, Desert Oasis

Puffy paint socks making was very unplanned but really fun. The thought of decorating socks for babies brought joy to me. The puffy paint is supposed to make babies not slip. We didn’t just make puffy paint socks, but we also decorated lunch bags for he families in the Ronald McDonald House. Putting positive messages in the bags were really fun, hoping that we can put a smile on the families’ faces with our messages. This project turned out very successful, and just something quick to make people smile. No doubt I would definitely do this again. Camiille Gamayo, Desert Oasis

Ride for Kids is an event that supports the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Their goal is to fund for medical research and support programs for the victims. As volunteers, our job was to direct the motorcyclists where to go and we cheered for them as well. I love going to this event because it’s so heartwarming especially when you see hope in the faces of everyone; from the survivors, their families, and even the volunteers. Seeing the genuine smiles of families resonates the hope that was kindled in their hearts. Evonie Claire Villarete, Ed. W. Clark

For the Ride for Kids event, a few Key Clubbers from our club came to Town Square to assist in setting up the event as well as to direct traffic. We set up chairs, put together a bucket of ice with drinks, and did a few more administrative duties before we were allowed to wander for a short while. Afterwards, we were dispatched to a few locations along the planned route to direct the riders. Unfortunately, the Nevada Highway Patrol people who were directing the riders had them come in through the wrong entrance and we wound up standing around doing nothing for about an hour completely unawares. However, afterwards we were able to attend a short ceremony and were then provided with a delicious free lunch. To conclude, Ride for Kids was a rewarding event for me even if it didn’t go as planned.

Three Square Food Bank

Desert Oasis

Our Three Square service was a major success! It was an awesome experience to take part of! When I was the service I felt like I somewhat understood the struggles of those who don't have the privilege of eating a meal everyday. I can never say I fully understand what they go through because I have never been in a situation like that before. Regardless it felt good to help. Our key club with another group manage to bag 1,059 bags of food in less than two hours! We helped 1,059 families together as key club. We put a smile on the faces of those families. We, as key club, gave 1,059 families hope. The Three Square service was a great experience and I would definitely partake in a service like again with a doubt!
