The bestselling[4] book won Kerala Literary Academy Award for Benyamin in 2009. The English translation by Penguin appeared in the long list of both Man Asia Booker Prize 2012 and DSC Prize 2013. According to The Hindu, Benyamin became an "overnight sensation" with the publication of this "hard-hitting story" and is currently one of the top sellers in Malayalam.
