This project draws inspiration from the concepts of metamorphosis and reincarnation. It envisions a “Machine for Reincarnation,” where transformation take center stage between two mammalian animals. The design employs materials sourced from a mystery box, challenging creativity through unexpected and unconventional resources.

Framed as a scientific inquiry, this project aims to criticially assess the functionality and user engagement within the amenity spaces of my residential condominum through the lens of a comic-style narrative. Proposing that, despite the building’s aesthetic appeal and thoughtful design, they remain largely underused. This juxtaposition serves to provide a commentary on the interplay between form and utility, underscoring the dissonance between architectural ambition and practical engagement.

This project draws inspiration from the material study of cat hair and my understanding of biology. In this cat-worshiping society, cats and their fur are regarded as the most precious resource in the world. Following an apocalyptic event, both humans and cats now live underground, enduring constant cold temperatures and surviving on a strict diet of fish. While cats can freely roam beyond the city limits due to their superior biology, humans are confined indoors, venturing outside only when absolutely necessary. Scientists in this society are deeply invested in researching and experimenting with cat hair due to its remarkable cellular properties. As a fibrous additive in building materials, cat hair offers exceptional tensile strength and insulation capabilities. These qualities hold great potential for expanding the city further underground, should returning to the surface prove impossible. Additionally, researchers are exploring the use of cat hair to develop heat-resistant clothing, enabling humans to venture farther into the frozen wasteland that surrounds them.

Close up view of material orgin clustered at the surface level of the black domestic short hair cat. The individual hair strands varies from coloured black, brown and white, with black dominating genetically.

Individually, the extracted fibers are linear and tubular, the length varies but ranges from on average 1-6cm. They are ordered more un-uniformly with twists and curves all manners of direction.
