Leonardo Ortega
Conceptual visual artist and filmmaker, born in Chile in October 1970 after the advanced humanist, democratic socialist Salvador Allende Gossens was elected president in a country full of hope and solidarity. Leonardo was still 2 years old when the USA-backed military coup by general Pinochet overthrew Allende’s government and ended Chilean democracy. Leonardo studied fine arts and created a video installation in support of the Mapuche-Pewenche nation in 2000-2002, Modelo Ralco. In 2006 Leonardo went to Australia with an artist-in-residency fellowship by South Project and Monash University, he created his video installation INDOMITE. He lived and worked for 14 years in Mparntwe (Alice Springs NT, Australia) and from late 2019 he is living and working in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
