It’s a
Pleasure! Temperatures fall, so does the snow – and our spirits rise. We just need to get out and dive in. It’s about spending time with friends, about feeling our body and being stunned by the purity of nature. Towering peaks, snow covered trees, slopes with deep and light powder just waiting for our tracks.
That’s the terrain of our Freerider family, which are streamlined for pure backcountry pleasure. The ski packs carry all the tools for big days in the mountain, yet are sleek and clean. Plus, the Freerider Lite debuts with less than 1 kg without sacrificing the powder essentials. From the minimalist lightweight to the fully-featured Pro, the new Freeriders are perfect for setting out and dropping in.
Building the best tools for the best days out there – it sure is a dream job! Yet it also is a job that holds a lot of responsibilities – whether it comes to producing reliable products for the harshest conditions or when it comes to taking care of each and every team member. We were very proud and happy when we received the Fair Wear Foundation’s “Best Practice Award” in 2015 honouring our “courageous investments, both in Vietnam and at the headquarters in Gersthofen, Germany” to reduce overtime. And we again achieved top scores and the “Leader Status” in the FWF’s annual audits. We know we are on the right track – also, of course, in the powder terrain.

External Assessment How the Fair Wear Foundation’s verification system works
As a member of the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF), an independent non-profit organisation committed to improving social responsibility, we not only systematically monitor the working conditions at our production partners in Asia. We ourselves at the Deuter HQs in Germany are assessed annually, too.

How does a FWF audit work?
In September 2015 all three sites of our long-term production partner Vina Duke have been audited by the FWF.
Our long-term partner Duke produces the major part of our collection and has three sites in Vietnam, which we asked the FWF to audit in September 2015. Over the years Duke has gained a lot of experience working with the FWF and therefore prepares and handles audit processes very professionally. The FWF audit team consist of three members who are all (in this case) Vietnamese. To work efficiently the FWF always uses an audit team that is knowledgeable of the local language, local labour relations and local law and regulations. Before the official audit, the team already conducts interviews outside the factory premises. The idea behind this procedure is that the FWF wants to give the workers an opportunity to speak freely and provide information off-site without any fear for negative consequences. The actual audit then takes place inside the factory premises and with the audit team splitting up into their respective fields of expertise. While one member is responsible for

However, the FWF not only monitors our production sites, but also visits our headquarters in Gersthofen/Germany annually. The so-called Brand Performance Check assesses whether the structures we have developed do actually improve labour conditions in the supply chain. Do we consider the capacities and needs of our suppliers in our production schedules? Do we pay our suppliers punctually? The purchasing practices have a big impact on the labour conditions in the factories in Asia. For a detailed insight the FWF interviews our responsible team members in Gersthofen and inspects documents and processes. Finally we are evaluated by the foundation. The vast majority of FWF affiliates achieve a “good”. Then there is the benchmark “leader status”. This category is for affiliates who are doing exceptionally well, are operating at an advanced level and are showing best practices in complex areas. We are very proud to again have achieved the top status in 2015 with an outstanding result: we achieved 90 out of 98 possible scores!

Load adjustor straps on the shoulder straps and hip fins serve to fine-tune the load according to the terrain.
Ergonomically shaped shoulder straps lined with breathable 3D AirMesh. SL shoulder straps feature extra comfortable soft edges.

Ergonomic and removable X-frame with curved profile aluminium stays (removable) perfectly transfers the load on the hip wings (on models Guide and Rise Tour).
Flexible Delrin® U-frame in the models Freerider Pro, Freerider Lite, Rise und Rise Pro provides stability and effective load transfer with minimum extra weight. It follows the most varied movements with absolute ease.
Alpine Back System
Body-hugging soft stripe pads follow even rapid movements and keep the load close to the body’s centre of gravity – essential in difficult terrain. The channel between the pads provides extra comfort by creating a “chimney” effect ventilation.
Removable insulating sitting mat stabilises the back.
Compact hip fins Removable, pivoting Vari Flex hip fins
ensure perfect weight transfer and a stable fit – with PE-reinforcement on the bigger models.
follow any movement, which saves energy and provides great freedom of movement even in difficult passages. The hip fins can be easily removed on the models Guide, Rise Pro, Rise Tour, and Freerider Pro. Advantages: weight reduction and better access to the climbing harness. The backpack can thus be carried just with the waist strap, which is also removable (on models Guide, Rise Pro and Rise Tour). Deuter ALPINE BACK System
Out of 262 persons with activated ABS® avalanche airbag, 97 % survived, and 84 % were uninjured. (Source: SLF, known and documented avalanche accidents with ABS® avalanche airbags, August 2010)
A quick pull with little force and the system inflates irreversibly at the speed of sound. Within a few moments, the ABS® TwinBags inflate. Without compromise, quickly and with absolute certainty.
German engineering
See and flee
The long proven and repeatedly awarded back system combines a compact, secure fit with maximum carrying comfort and comfortable ventilation.
The original ABS® self-rescue system – developed, manufactured and tested by avalanche experts since 1985. Survival made in Germany.
The ABS® TwinBag system can be activated without hesitation at the first sign of an avalanche. Nothing hinders the attempt to escape and nothing blocks the view or restricts movement, but you are protected right from the start.
Double safety
20 AlpinE
Even if one of the two ABS® TwinBags is damaged, there is usually sufficient remaining volume to prevent total burial.
Dynamic lift The wide bearing surface due to laterally placed ABS® TwinBags stabilizes the body and increases the lift precisely in the critical avalanche runout zone.
Maximum visibility In 97 % of all documented avalanche accidents with activated airbags, the TwinBags were visible on the surface. The time-consuming, highly stressful and errorprone search in difficult terrain is avoided.
Easy pack and use Simple and safe to pack and quickly ready again for operation – after recommended training activation or in an emergency.
