As we transition into the new year, there are many things I’ve been able to reflect upon. Many of the great memories are of all of the wonderful people that I have come to know and become great friends with. I am very thankful for all of the wonderful talents that I’ve come in contact with and have been a part of this great publication. I hope you continue to support Le Rouge as much as you have until now. With this new year we have new beginnings. One of them is that the lovely Jalia Pettis is now the Managing Editor for Le Rouge. As we continue to experience growth, the responsibilities in leading the magazine grows as well. Jalia will aide me on many of the tasks that I had once taken all on myself. Within my Editorial team is Jalia Pettis as Managing Editor and Victor De Leon as my Beauty Editor. We will be looking to expand into more positions in the coming months as growth continues and this beautiful publication continues to expand both nationally and internationally. With Much Love,

MANAGING EDITOR’S note I
am so excited to transition my role with Le Rouge Magazine from PR Representative to Managing Editor. To offer a bit of insight into my skill set let me first share with you a little about myself. In 1999 I began a corporate career as a Human Resources Professional and quickly moved up the ranks into management and became a Certified Trainer. In 2006 I started, 3Jay Productions which caters to those in the fashion and beauty industries offering a broad range of services to include brand management, imaging, art direction, event planning and casting. The following year in 2007 my company created an annual event entitled the Style Exhibition which was awarded a proclamation as the premiere fashion event of Columbia, SC and is now a traveling showcase. In 2008, I launched my freelance Make-Up Artistry career under the name Hazel Eyed Queen Artistry. Then in 2012 came on board with Le Rouge Magazine as the PR Representative which brings us to 2014 where I have been promoted to Managing Editor. In the spring I will return to school to study Esthetics, I am the proud mother of three children and currently reside in Scottsdale, Arizona. My goals for the magazine include creating a broader audience of contributors and readers throughout the US, offering educational insight for those in the beauty industry, and aiding in the showcase of fashion designers on the rise. Additionally, I would like to see Le Rouge Magazine in print in major book stores throughout the country by 2016. I am excited to be a part of this team and look forward to many successful years ahead.

I
can’t wait for Spring to come. Not only for the warmer weather and blooming flowers, but also for the kaleidoscope of colors that we’ll be able to wear, among many other things. Many of the designs seen at the Spring/ Summer 2014 shows had bright neons, whites, and pinks all in their color pallets. Another trend is the makeup that was seen on the runway. We saw barely-there natural makeup with soft pink lips, and sheer cheeks. I’ve chosen some of the products that I’m looking forward to wearing this Spring/ Summer season. RADIANT ORCHID: How to rock Pantone’s color of the year! By Tamara Bickley

If there’s ever been a color that’s historically evoked a “love it or hate it” response, it’s purple. Still today, purple is a color divided, standing for bravery in America via the Purple Heart; for homosexuality in a number of Western cultures; and for mourning in the United Kingdom, Italy and Brazil. Say what you want about purple, but it’s everywhere this year – in limitless tints, shades and tones thanks to color industry leader Pantone’s decision to reveal the Color of the Year for 2014 as Pantone 18-3224 Radiant Orchid. In a Pantone statement, Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, describes Radiant Orchid as “an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones … it is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.” In nature, purple’s rarity has given it a supernatural aura for centuries. The hue is the most powerful wavelength of the rainbow, and has a lengthy history. In early civilization, purple symbolized nobility and wealth. Variations of the color conveyed differences. Light purples were associated with flowers and romance. Dark shades of purple represented intelligence and dignity. The description “purple” is often times used as a generalization of an object that is purple-toned, while the color may present itself from the softness of baby pink to the vibrancy of red, to the richness of navy blue. Radiant Orchid includes all of these shades and more, which makes finding, incorporating, and flaunting Radiant Orchid’s exuberance easy and desirable. Many of us, as artists, live through color. If we put everything that we know about highlighting, contouring, and texture aside, and focus primarily on the seduction of color alone, we may be lured by the hue on the color wheel that scientifically has been proven to balance the mind.
What better way to enhance eye color than to play up the peepers with some purple in the form of shadow, liner, or mascara? All eye colors look fabulous with purple. The trick is figuring out which tint, shade or tones look best with your eyes, and compliment your skin color. If you’re looking for a range of shadows that fall into the Radiant Orchid category, you’ll likely find exactly what you want if you look at options offered through MAC or Makeup Forever.
