ere's a story about a film that came about by accident. I call the making of Dine with the Devil, a short psychological thriller, "organic".

It all started when I saw a post

The trailer for "Dine with the Devil" won in the "Best Trailer " category for the month of Feb and will now compete in the quarterly round in the Independent Talents International Film Festival Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Film Festival

The Making of Dine with the Devil on the "Backstage" website (Actors site) about a film by a lady in Europe where you could film your own scene and send it in to her for possible inclusion in the film. The jist of the scene was someone who was hearing a voice in their head. I came up with a short scene and asked my buddy, Drew Howard, if he wanted to do it with me. He said "yes" and we filmed it at Ms. Roses restaurant. I liked the scene so much, I told Drew if this woman I sent the scene to doesn't use it, we will build a short film around it. Well, several months and one heart attack later, I still had not heard anything from the film maker in Europe. I reached out to her several times. I decided to go ahead, since it was my scene and put something with it and make a short film. At first, I was going to do an anti-bullying movie and see if Lance Morrison would come onboard and he agreed. The only problem was how to work the voices in my head into this new film. It was not working until I thought about an audition I did around this same time. I wrote a monologue for a "Lucifer" voice over and sent it in. (I got the role BTW; waiting on more details). I thought about that audition and once again, the scene was mine as I wrote it myself. BAM!! Just like that, the dynamic of the film changed. There was still an element of anti-bullying, but now with a sinister twist. I had written some scenes and talked through different ideas about the film with Lance and Drew but still did not have a title. I was watching a film with one of my favorite actors, (Continued on page 6)

o many people around the World know about the result from Dr James Forsythe’s Forsythe Protocol used at the Forsythe Cancer Center, 521 Hammill Ln, in Reno, Nevada, however fewer people know what a great prolific writer he is with over 24 published books and a couple more being completed. I learned all about this when I was in the audience of Old Tales of Nevada where the Doctor was invited to be on the show for the fourth time. This man not only knows his medicine and treatments, he has also written several books to help you make healthy decisions from home, or wherever you are reading his books. You can also go to www.AmericaMatters.us and hear all of his Podcast on Health over the years and years he and his staff have been helping people. The Forsythe Cancer Care Center is located at 521 Hammill Lane on the corner of Kiezke and Sierra Rose, across from LOWES on Kietzke Lane. Call them for an appointment at 775-827-0707, or to talk to anyone of the Doctors or Nurses there.

James W. Forsythe, M.D., H.M.D. Dr Forsythe does the number one rated Health Show for America Matters Media and is heard worldwide at www.AmericaMatters.us. His books are located both at 521 Hammill Lane, Reno, and also in the Reno Town Mall in the America Matters Studio. He can also be heard on 1180 am, KCKQ, Lotus Radio locally. His books cover various ailments we all suffer from so I invite you to come to the Reno town Mall and take a look for yourself. You will also be amazed at the new Marshall Mint and Museum at the front entrance to the Mall. Should you have any questions about the Doctor, his practice or books, simply give them a call and if you would like to come join our weekly radio show, call me at 775-384-4444. I personally consider him the greatest Doctor and Homeopath in our nation if not the world.

Bashō’s Narrow Road to the

Deep North

was a young man and about to begin four years of military service when I came across a haiku poem that struck me profoundly: ‘How admirable, / He who thinks not, “Life is fleeting,” / When he sees the lightning!’ It was written by Matsuo Bashō (1644-1694), who is certainly one of the greatest of the haiku poets, if not the greatest. The above poem conveyed to me something bracing and hopeful: the human capacity to see an eternal significance in the present moment. This is a general theme that is present throughout Bashō’s work. The book that I have kept with me for most of my adult life is called “The Narrow Road to the Deep North and Other Travel Sketches”. Published in 1966, it was translated from the Japanese by Nobuyuki Yuasa (who also provided a helpful introduction and footnotes). The translation includes five travel sketches by Bashō, the most prominent being “The Narrow Road” itself. In the latter, Bashō describes a lengthy journey that

begins near Edo (Tokyo) and advances northward as far as Kisagata; then he travels down Japan’s west coast to Ōgaki. Sometimes he is riding on loaned horses, but for the most part he walks. Prose is interspersed with poetry as he describes various sights and encounters along the way: the receding presence of Mount Fuji at the journey’s outset; a stay at an inn that is run by a man who reminds the author of ‘the Merciful Buddha himself’; the distant sight of Mount Kurokami, ‘brilliantly white with snow in spite of its name, which means black hair’; he treks through a dark forest ‘where even the beams of the sun could not penetrate’; and he weeps at the ruins of a castle where he composed the following: ‘A thicket of summer grass / Is all that remains / Of the dreams and ambitions / Of ancient warriors.’ On the west coast, Bashō observes a rough sea and the Milky Way’s bright clouds of starlight that are visible to the naked eye on clear nights: ‘The great Milky Way / Spans in a single arch / The billowcrested sea, / Falling on Sado beyond.’ Despite my limited command of Japanese, I venture to suggest that this poem could be broke down as follows: araumi ya (the turbulent sea) — / sado ni yokotō (and falling in the direction of Sado), / ama no gawa (heaven’s river). It should be noted that the island of Sado was a grim place of exile. Its inhabitants had included the zealous Buddhist teacher, Nichiren. In a postscript, a priest and scholar named Soryū states that Bashō’s masterpiece includes “everything under the sky”. That’s an exaggeration, of course. However, I do think that “The Narrow Road to the Deep North”, more than any other written work, articulates and reveals the heart or spirit of Japan. John Loranger was born in Butte, Montana in 1961 but has spent most of his life in Nevada. He served in the United States Navy from 1983 to 1987, then worked for the telephone company before retiring in 2011. He has always enjoyed reading fiction and has published two novels of his own: "The Odyssey of Art O'Hara" and "Lions and Souls: the Story of St. Mary of Egypt". His approach to fiction is best summed up by a quote from Walker Percy: "The first rule of thumb, of course, is pleasure. A good book gives the reader pleasure, the sort of deep, abiding pleasure he likes to come back to."

Perspectives from many sides

It has been a volatile period in history with dramatic splits between people and parties. Rather than maintaining silence, What’s the Story™ would like to contribute some down to earth, people-focused OPINIONS. These do not reflect our view necessarily; they reflect the views of people who identify as one of the parties listed. If you belong to one of these parties, your view might be different than what is expressed. That is to be expected. Our goal is to provide perspectives and contribute to the conversation, not by yelling, anger or disruption but by sharing as many views as we can allowing EVERYONE to express their First Amendment right to Freedom Of Speech. “Of the people, by the people, for the people”.

bortion law in the United States is one of the most controversial issues addressed under both the judicial and legislative branches of government. Conservative politicians try to limit or eradicate a woman’s access to abortion, despite it being legalized under Rowe vs. Wade, liberals want to guarantee access remains. The problem for both of these groups is message and usage. Abortion is not the issue, it is access to healthcare. Christian conservatives, the same people who insist that once conceived, a fetus must be carried to full-term, are the same conservatives who constantly defund programs that help children and parents once the baby is born. Conservatives have talked out of both sides of their mouths on this issue for over forty years. Congress in 2017, once again cut the funding for S-CHIP, pre-school, and low-income meal programs in massive ways. omeone asked me the other day about what I thought about New York State passing a bill that allows for late-term abortions…all the way up till the birth of the baby. This is a touchy subject to address especially considering a person’s political views these days. So I’ll share my answer with you now… carefully. On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court issued its decision with a 7-to-2 majority vote in favor of Roe (abortions are legal). Ok, so that’s the law of the land. But what I don’t get is: Why a woman is now allowed under New York’s new law, able to wait until just before birth to abort a baby? #1 Violence but mostly the violence of Traditionally, states did not the old and the young, the innocent and allow abortions to occur after 6 the infirm. How did New York become a cabal of sociopathic serial killers? Sorry to understate the seriousness of the crimes against humanity. But, come on New York, the dye is cast, you are doomed! The changes to the New York statutes are as follows: § 2599-bb. Abortion. 1. A health care practitioner licensed, certified, or authorized under title eight of the education law, acting within his or her lawful scope of practice, may perform an abortion when, according to the practitioner's reasonable and good faith professional judgment based on the facts of the patient's case: the patient is within twenty-four weeks from the commencement of pregnancy, or there is an absence of fetal viability, or the abortion is necessary to protect the patient's life or health. However, New York is not the only state that allows late-term abortions. Seven other states include: Alaska, Colorado, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Vermont and D.C. These states and D.C. all have one thing in common (the common denominator, except Alaska), they are all democratically controlled states. But let’s look at the root cause of why abortions are becoming more commonplace in today’s crazy society. Mainly young people are using abortions as birth control in lieu of contraceptives and it is becoming a national crisis along with the Democrats pushing these late-term abortion laws. hat’s happening to our local newspaper? I mean our once proud Reno Gazette Journal. While it never mimicked “All The News That’s Fit To Print” as the NY Times touts, for years it did provide reasonably good news coverage.…not great, but good.

Then something happened, there was a host of new Editors introduced to Reno over the years and almost overnight, the paper began to miniaturize; the number of advertising pages got smaller and smaller too. I once wrote to the editor saying; “I went out to collect my Monday morning paper today and there was nothing there!” No response! The price of my subscription jumped amazingly, ridiculously, and possible unsustainably high. This week I found out our paper will become even smaller as if that is

What’s the Story?TM Share it! Page 11

Our Reno Gazette Journal possible. For no reason the USA portion will be terminated and I’m offered an unwanted E- edition to make up the difference. Obviously and inevitably the End Is Near for the RGJ…wouldn’t you say? I don’t care for news offerings by the local and network TV channels either. Their political bias, a direct import from neighboring California is more than obvious. As Reno and Nevada turn to California for awkward and very slanted news coverage, where do we native and near native readers get our true facts? I refuse to give in and collect my news solely from my TV or from my computer-internet. I’m at that age where I always read the obituaries and I continually get a chuckle reading the “LIVING” section in the RGJ where the names of deceased people are listed in alphabetical order. What outfit will replace that? How will the internet folk tell us about what the weather is really like in new and interesting but distant places? Our local TV channels, I guess, will continue as our weather source while assigning underpaid staff to hang out at our airport’s lobby or stand in snow drifts grousing about how cold it is? There are few options, I must say. If I put a ‘stop’ on home delivery of the paper I seriously annoy myself and I don’t like doing that anymore; the paper receives lots of those stops every year and they won’t miss mine. Perhaps if enough people do, in fact, quit home delivery, maybe, just maybe, the publishers will spend some quality time reinventing its self. You think?

After coming to Reno from Charleston, S.C. in 1973 to accept the position of CEO of the Nevada State Medical Association and serving as Director of Physician Relations at Washoe Medical Center for two years, Pugh retired in 1990. Later he helped establish Health Access Washoe County (HAWC) and served as Board Member and President for several years. ibooks. Sound familiar? It wasn’t until 2007 that ereaders emerged. As readers were being given more ways to read books, authors who might have been prevented from a publishing deal began to take advantage of the ability to publish in the more affordable e-book format. In July 2014, Booklife by Publisher’s Weekly, provided a chart that clearly showed selfpublishing dominating with 54% of books represented from indie published, 17% small or medium-sized publishers and only 28% from major publishers like Simon & Schuster and Penguin Random House.

Author Jane Friedman talks about hybrid publishing in her 2016 article What Is A Hybrid Publisher and explains how it can be confusing. She settles on what she believes most people will agree: Hybrid publishing is a combination of aspects from both self-publishing and traditional publishing. For authors, this is good news since they now have expanded opportunities for publishing and an alternative to the often difficult to reach traditional publishing. Jon Clinch a traditionally published author tested the Hybrid publishing model in 2013. His April, 2013 article Stress Testing a Hybrid Publishing Model in Publisher’s Weekly emphasized the challenges facing authors today. Despite his ability to obtain a traditional publishing contract, he chose to self-publish and shared some of the lessons he learned. He cites his willingness to continue to self-publish partially due to the independence he gained. From the time of the first e-readers to today, authors are provided more opportunities than ever to publish their work. And with publishing models like the hybrid model, authors are experimenting with the many different models available. If you’re an author, will you be part of the over 70% of people who have already indiepublished their work? Conservatives who want this law stricken believe it is a slippery slope while they try to subvert Rowe V. Wade around the country. Once again, proving they live by a double standard, they seek to overturn this relaxing of the law to prevent physicians and parents from facing the agonizing decision of whether to risk prison to save a life. The case that brought this to the forefront involved a couple whose late-term fetus was already deemed deceased and was making the mother sick. Indeed, her physician told her if it were not removed immediately, it would cost the mother her life. Once considered the commonsense party, conservative Christians have taken over the party. They shun scientific discovery, truths about medical advances and issues regarding health care and other science-related knowledge in favor of religious doctrine not even contained within religious texts. These religious dictates have become a litmus test for any right-leaning politician. The party has become more and more discriminatory towards minorities, alternative sexually oriented individuals and women. They wish to create laws that limit women’s access to required healthcare, while claiming a false commitment to the sanctity of life. This extreme religiousbased discrimination is just as detrimental to the fabric of America as the threat of religious law posed by the Muslim extremists they claim to hate.

There are so many similarities in America today with so many Empires from the past but these three will suffice for now. I fear for those who support the murder of our innocent. If there is a God in Heaven he will require retribution. But I guess that has always been the debate hasn’t it, from the beginning of man. If we descend from apes then I suppose there could be an excuse to act like animal and devalue life whatever form it may be in. If the love of money is the root of all evil then where is the big money in the murder of the unborn? Follow the money. I suppose a person can go into a death chamber and pay for an abortion for several hundred dollars, maybe a thousand. So is that really the where the big money is? Well hold on, the abortion is the smaller dollar, that probably just pays the staff who assist in the murder. The big money comes from the sale of body parts. Now I will finish with this. The biggest dollars come from the elite for a delicacy found in the pituitary gland. Its called adrenochrome . I know, I know, this is sick stuff. Youtube adrenochrome and make your own decision. The elite keep power by keeping the masses ignorant. So what can we do? #1 Move out of New York before it’s too late. # 2 Pray for divine intervention. #3 Value life.

supporter of abortions for any nonprofit organization and receives over a third of its money (federal funding) in government grants and contracts. In 2014, that was about $528 million. What happened to educating our young people in schools to make better decisions and that there are consequences and not always a free pass? Why are our traditional values and common sense fleeing faster than Hilliary’s 2016 presidential defeat? Unfortunately, Liberalism has infiltrated our schools and propaganda, political or otherwise, is changing our society right before our eyes. Young people (kids) are susceptible to the Left’s messages that anything goes, along with holding up shiny objects for them (free education and healthcare for all) to grab without weighing all the consequences. So, what’s the answer then? I believe that we need to get back to the basics with educating our youth on real consequences for making misguided decisions, providing contraceptives for safe and responsible sex, and that the Republicans value life over death when it comes to aborting babies, which is referred to as infanticide. I watched on the news how Democratic Governor Northam of Virginia, who was a pediatric neurologist at Children’s Hosipital of the King’s Daughter in Norfolk, Virginia, casually talk about late-term abortions. Really…a children’s doctor?

As the Soul Heals

“Walk the Turtle”

Aspects of life hidden inside the whispers of a morning breeze are felt as we cry out to our creator asking for the reasons why.

Answers will be revealed as time flows into tomorrow while a pink heart-shaped balloon dances among the winds of yesterday’s love held by the comforting arms of an old oak tree. We rest our spirit as the soul heals. Storm clouds break, as the sunshine of our hearts radiate inside each smile, as we remember how safe we feel when we embrace memories of warmth during the moments of those chapters we shared and the promises of our everlasting bond held by the hand of faith. True melting of unconditional love gives passion to the wandering silence, resembling a calm mist of haunting images residing within the thoughts of a fragile, shattered mindset. Achievements and rewards given are translated by the body language we share; beyond the understandings of spiritual transformation, apparently part of who we are as we go forward into a new day in peace.
