JUICER

LESHA JAIN PRODUCT DESIGN

JUICERS A juicer is a tool for separating juice from fruits, herbs, leafy greens and other types of vegetables from its pulp in a process called juicing. In separating the pulp, juicers concentrate the nutrition naturally present in fruits and vegetables and allows the body to more easily absorb the nutrition than digesting the solid produce.

TYPES OF JUICERS

Centrifugal juicers

Masticating juicers

Triturating juicers

Process of Making Juice

WORKING PRINCIPLES Centrifugal Juicers Cuts the fruits and the vegetables using a shredder disc that spins at a high speed against a metal strainer. The force generated from the spinning blade separates the juice from the pulp, which drains away separately from the fibrous remains.

Masticating Juicers A masticating juicer uses a single auger to compact and crush produce into smaller sections before squeezing out its juice along a static screen while the pulp is expelled through a separate outlet. Compress fruits and vegetables to squeeze out their juice. Slower and more thorough extraction produce a higher yield of juice without destroying the nutrients and enzymes.

Triturating Juicers It has inter-meshing stainless steel twin gears to squeeze and press fruits and vegetables. Operate at less than 200 RPM resulting in even less oxidation from foam and less destruction of nutrients from heat.

COMPARISON Centrifugal Juicers Advantages: Cheap Easy to use Reduces fruits or vegetables cutting time i.e. takes in larger pieces Disadvantages: Loud & Noisy Destroys enzymes by introducing heat and oxygen as it runs at a higher R.P.M. Extracts nutrients less efficiently. Not suitable for leafy vegetables. Yields less juice. Larger clean up time.

Masticating Juicers Advantages: Quieter operation Lower heat and oxidation protects nutrients and enzymes. Less foam Easier to clean without any sharp parts. Yields more juice. Juice preserved in better condition for long. Disadvantages: Heavier More expensive Longer cutting preparation

USER INSIGHTS To many components to clean and the shedder becomes a little difficult to clean as the fibers get stuck into it. Hence, cleaning consumes alot of time. To big so always kept into the store or some cupboard and hence its not much used. Noise is to loud which then becomes irritating and hence avoid using. Nutritional value is not known. To much of foam formed and the colors of the juice not appealing enough.
