The Guild's popular and exciting 'Image of the Month' competition aims to encourage and showcase great imagery - portraits, weddings, commercial, landscape, animal, digital art, sport - just about anything goes, as long as you are the author of the work. Entries are assessed by a panel of highly experienced judges and higher scoring images are awarded a Bronze, Silver, Gold or even a Platinum Bar. Members achieving a Bronze Bar or above can use Guild logos on their awarded images to recognise their achievement, and physical certification can be posted for framing. The judges also award an 'Image of the Month', displayed on the Guild website, with a prize for the winner. Gold Bar winning images are published in the Creative Light magazine. At the end of each year the best images are brought together and assessed for the 'Image of the Year' Awards, which are presented at our Annual Awards Dinner every February - a fabulous, sociable black-tie occcasion - a really memorable night.
OUR MONTHLY COMPETITIONS CAN HELP YOU DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS - AS WELL AS BEING FUN TO ENTER!

GET QUALIFIED Like the original craft guilds, we want to protect the quality and reputation of our trade - the photographic profession. Everyone has a camera now, so qualifications are one way to demonstrate our competence and capability. The process itself is a valuable part of learning, development and improvement. Certification, logos and letters to use after your name are issued on achieving each level. We have four qualification levels: Registered (ie untested) / Qualified / Craftsman /Master Craftsman. They can be obtained in specific genres, and you don't have to be running a photography business to qualify. You can apply to any of these areas: • The Guild of Wedding Photographers • The Guild of Newborn & Baby Photographers • The Guild of Professional Photographers (covering all other professional areas) • The Guild of Photographers (for those not running a business). Details of the assessment processes and requirements for Guild qualifications are shown on the main website - log in and have a look at what they could do for you.
Everyone has a camera now, so qualifications are a valuable way to demonstrate our competence and credibility. Certification, relevant logos and letters for use after your name are issued on achieving each level.

Self-development opportunities include workshops and events around the UK and in Europe, as well as image critique and personal mentoring.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT The Guild has some exceptional trainers and puts on great value workshops as well as offering bespoke critiques and mentoring sessions. Some are free, and we work hard to keep prices low and value high on those we do make a charge for. We also encourage self-development and mutual support in our private groups to create a community approach to helping each other, which proves very effective. We arrange workshops and special events around the country, from free photowalks to mock weddings, workshops and seminars by some of the best known names in the industry - including some in Europe for those who want to travel. We can also arrange 'bespoke' workshops wherever you wish. Members can choose a subject and location and pull together a few interested attendees, and we will happily provide the trainer. .
Discounted private training is also available. Several of our Panel run private training and offer preferential rates to Guild members. KEEP UP TO DATE with events via the main website, Facebook and the Guild newsletter. Image Critiques are undertaken on the images of your choice with one of our experienced Panel - all national judges - on a 1-2-1 basis, either online via Skype, by phone or in person. This can be of great value not only for personal development, but also to understand what is required when entering national competitions, submitting for assessment processes. Personal Mentoring goes further. It's an ongoing process to support and encourage you in managing your own learning maximising your potential, developing your skills and becoming the photographer you want to be. You'd work with an experienced Guild Panel member over time on a 1-2-1 basis, online, or via Skype, phone or in person.
