6 WESTMARK SCHOOL ANNUAL REPORT
“At Westmark, I learned to deal with my struggles.”
How do Annual Fund gifts support and supplement yearly tuition? RST: Tuition alone cannot cover the cost of all the services and resources we’d like to provide to our students, let alone satisfy the growing need for financial aid among both current and potential future students. We are so very grateful to our community members for their generous support of this year’s Annual Fund. They have made so many wonderful things possible for our kids.
Homecoming. Each person gives what he or she can, when he or she can. We bond together to address common challenges, and that is what makes our community strong and cohesive.
How do these tight-knit relationships reinforce the school’s ability to fulfill its mission? NN: For one thing, because we’re so closely bonded, we are all more open to learning from one another. Take, for

How do Westmark community members contribute beyond providing financial support? NN: Each member of the Westmark community gives of his or her time, talent and resources to support each other in a myriad of ways. Our alumni or students may advocate for better understanding of learning differences; our teachers spend extra time and attention to inspire a student in overcoming perceived and real barriers; and our parents get involved in helping the school through volunteering as a
city, our country and around the globe. RST: Muir is absolutely right. There is so much confusion and ignorance when it comes to learning disabilities. Most people don’t really understand what the term means, and certainly don’t appreciate the remarkable potential of our students and people like them. By chipping away at this ignorance, and the stigma and prejudices that accompany it, we can help pave the way to brighter futures for our students as well as others facing similar challenges.

Grandparents can make a difference by contributing to the Westmark Annual Fund. Each year, we receive support from grandparents across our community. Your contributions help to secure programs like Grandparents’ Day and also to underwrite expanded offerings in the arts, athletics and technology for your grandchildren. Would you like to help? Please complete the inserted gift remittance envelope and mail it back to us. Feel free to indicate that you have made this gift in honor of your grandchildren. If we receive your gift before June 1, 2015, it will be acknowledged in our 2014-15 annual report.
