Recent highlights include a rare set of pre-fire lithographs from Jevne and Almini’s Chicago Illustrated, which sold for $20,740, a fine first edition, first printing of Lewis and Clark’s History of the Expedition… to the Sources of the Missouri, which sold for $46,360 against a presale estimate of $8,000-12,000, and a signed photograph of Jesse James, which sold for $51,240.

Our sales frequently highlight important color plate books and foundational academic works in all areas of Natural History, Medicine and the History of Science. Recent highlights of this exciting field include a second folio edition of Andreas Vesalius’ De Humani Corporis Fabrica Libri Septem, which sold for $43,920, Francis Bauer’s Delineations of Exotick Plants Cultivated at the Royal Garden at Kew, which sold for $9,760, and two volumes from John James Audubon’s octavo edition of The Birds of America, which sold for $9,150 against a presale estimate of $3,000-5,000.

Recent highlights include a rare first English edition of Gerard Mercator’s Atlas, which sold for $35,380, and two folio atlases from Captain James Cook’s second and third voyages, which sold for $7,320.

Books as Art

Fine Bindings include top quality works by renowned artists such as Sangorski and Sutcliffe, Zaehnsdorf, Riviere and Kelliegram, including the elaborate onlaid binding of this Alice In Wonderland.
