The auction of property from the Estate of Lilly Pulitzer of Palm Beach, Florida was incredibly successful, bringing nearly $600,000 against a pre-sale auction estimate of $130,000-215,000.

In 2014 Leslie Hindman Auctioneers witnessed the strength of the jewelry market at auction by achieving nearly $13 million in sales - the best results in our history. A graduated triple strand natural pearl necklace, sold for $362,500 against a pre-sale estimate of $30,000-50,000.

This past year, we enjoyed tremendous growth as we continued to expand our presence throughout the United States and improve our position in the global auction marketplace. We opened our sixth national auction facility in Saint Louis, Missouri and increased our worldwide visibility by offering important works of art, exquisite jewelry, luxury accessories, decorative arts and many other fascinating objects that came to us from private collections, estates and institutions. Our Post War and Contemporary Art and American and European Art departments realized extraordinary results in 2014. Highlights of our fine art sales were led by the sale of Reclining Nude by Fernando Botero, which realized $494,500 and was consigned through our Palm Beach office. In our May sales, a charming painting by American artist Eastman Johnson brought $284,500, a few moments after Garden on a Gray Day by Louis Ritman sold for $362,500. Alex Katz’s expressive Portrait of Eileen de Kooning sold for $206,500 in our December auctions along with Norman Rockwell’s fascinating and atypical LBJ era political painting, which realized $242,500. The prices realized for top-quality property remain strong, and we are encouraged by the enthusiasm we see throughout the global collecting community. Our Jewelry department saw impressive growth and unprecedented results in 2014. We had the honor of handling property from the Estate of Elise Reeder Olton of Boca Raton, Florida, which included jewels by prominent designers Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Tiffany & Co. We also sold property from the Estate of Gerard L. Cafesjian of Naples, Florida and Minneapolis, Minnesota, which featured over 1,000 individual and eclectic items spanning the extraordinary work of Suzanne Belperron, Raymond Yard and Paul Flato. Our Jewelry department looks forward to another exciting year as we continue to realize record prices for diamond and colored stones through competitive international bidding. Property from the Caribou Ranch and Recording Studio, Nederland, Colorado On January 24, 2015 Leslie Hindman Auctioneers will conduct the sale of studio memorabilia and furnishings from the historic Caribou Ranch recording studio. Producer James William Guercio built the studio in the Rocky Mountains near Nederland, Colorado in 1972. He converted a barn on the property that would go on to host nearly 200 musicians during its tenure and produce 45 top ten albums, 18 Grammys and 20 number-one Billboard Hits. Music history was made by illustrious artists and groups such as Elton John, Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash, Earth, Wind & Fire, Rod Stewart, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Jerry Lee Lewis, Peter Frampton, Phil Collins, Steely Dan, Stevie Nicks, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty, U2 and many more.

Caribou Ranch is being inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2015 along with Joe Walsh, Barnstorm and Dan Fogelberg. Caribou Ranch was the first destination recording studio where rock ‘n roll history was made. It was a place where bands could fully immerse themselves in the creative process and focus on producing unforgettable music. Elton John’s 1974 Caribou album was recorded at and named after the studio where his next two albums would also be recorded. Leslie Hindman Auctioneers is honored to be handling a sale so ingrained in music history.

Property from the Estate of Adele Bloom of Palm Beach, Florida and Montreal, Canada Leslie Hindman Auctioneers is pleased to handle the Estate of Adele Bloom, a passionate and distinguished collector. The collection is comprised of English and Chinese export porcelain, fine art and 18th19th century furniture and decorative arts. Mrs. Bloom was a resident of Montreal, Canada and Palm Beach, Florida. For many years she was a devoted volunteer guide at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. She made numerous philanthropic contributions and donations to the arts. Perhaps the most significant was the gift of a red anchor period Chelsea rabbit tureen to the Gardiner Museum in Toronto, the national ceramics museum of Canada.

Mrs. Bloom’s interest in English and Chinese export ceramics prevails in the collection, which also includes paintings by Léonard Tsuguharu Foujita and Moïse Kisling who both worked in Paris during the early to mid 20th century.

Art Nouveau from the Louis Daniel Brodsky Collection of St. Louis, Missouri The 20th Century Decorative Arts department is pleased to handle Art Nouveau from the Louis Daniel Brodsky Collection. This collection was consigned through the newest Leslie Hindman Auctioneers regional office in St. Louis, Missouri. The single-owner sale will be held at the Chicago headquarters on February 22, 2015.

he often gained interest in a single area before moving on to the next. He began by collecting Americana then turned his interest to William Faulkner. During this time, Mr. Brodsky amassed one of the largest collections of Faulkner materials in the world, which eventually was acquired by Southeast Missouri State University.

Mr. Brodsky was a prolific poet, businessman, scholar and collector. Of these pursuits, Mr. Brodsky was most passionate about writing. At the age of 73 he had written nearly 12,000 poems, many of which he published through his own publishing house. He had a goal of writing one poem every 24 hours. The fervor with which Mr. Brodsky pursued his writing mirrors the passion with which he collected. As an avid collector,

Property from the Collection of Swedish Designer Lars Bolander of Palm Beach, Florida Leslie Hindman Auctioneers’ Palm Beach office is pleased to announce the auction of The Private Collection of Swedish Designer Lars Bolander on March 21, 2015 at the West Palm Beach auction facility. The sale will include furniture, decorative arts, fine art and silver. Lars Bolander is one of Sweden’s foremost interior designers and a pioneer of Swedish design in the United States. Influenced by his diverse education and experiences, Mr. Bolander has developed a unique style all his own that has both a theatrical side and love of simplicity. Lars Bolander has authored two books and has been published in Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Vogue, Elle Décor, the Wall

Street Journal and many other major publications.

His collection is both coherent and varied, classic and fun. It includes traditional Swedish forms such as Gustavian chairs, a Gustavian settee and works by Swedish artist Dan Nygard. At the same time, much of his collection was amassed through worldwide travel and exploration. Many objects were found in unique locations with intriguing backgrounds and interesting stories. His European aesthetic is evident in such objects as an unusual pair of terracotta busts of Moorish gentlemen and paintings by François Gall. Whimsical items curated by a designer’s eye include architectural trompe l’oeil furniture and the signature silvered brass ram heads used in Mr. Bolander’s

Property from the Toledo Museum of Art Leslie Hindman Auctioneers is pleased to handle a consignment of significant furniture and decorative arts from the Toledo Museum of Art this April. The collection will be a session within the Fine Furniture and Decorative Arts sale. Many of the objects have been exhibited or stored for decades and are being sold for the benefit of the Art Acquisition Fund. Included in the consignment are Italian Renaissance style cassoni, French furniture, English furniture, a collection of bronze furniture and decorative objects from the renowned Neapolitan Chiurazzi Foundry, and others, some of which have provenance linking them to great collectors and dealers of the 20th century.

The Toledo Museum of Art was founded in 1901 and remains one of the Nation’s finest cultural institutions with a historically and architecturally significant campus. The museum’s more than 30,000 works of art represent the complete history of American, European, modern and contemporary painting, ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian works of art, Asian and African art, medieval art, sculpture,

Property from the Collection of Carol H. and Richard M. Levin of Kansas City, Missouri The American and European Art department is pleased to offer property from the Collection of Carol H. and Richard M. Levin on May 20, 2015. Throughout the second half of the 20th century, Mr. Levin, a Kansas City native, collected with a connoisseur’s eye and an emphasis on acquiring paintings that paid homage to his American roots. This evening sale, comprised of 37 works of art, will feature prominent American artists including works from Ashcan School painters best known for portraying city and modern life in rejection of the more genteel, polished movements of the time. These artists include members of “The Eight,” such as Robert Henri, William Glackens, Everett Shinn, George Benjamin Luks, Arthur B. Davies, Ernest Lawson and John French Sloan.

The collection also includes the work of American Regionalist artists Thomas Hart Benton, John Steuart Curry, Charles Burchfield and Eugene Edward Speicher. Social Realists William Gropper, Ben Shahn, Jack Levine, Moses Soyer and Raphael Soyer are represented alongside American Modernists Jerome Myers, Reginald Marsh and Guy Pène Du Bois. Works include those from American Impressionist Childe Hassam, Magical Realist Aaron Bohrod and non-American Neo-primitivist David Burliuk. With his knowledgeable and gifted eye, Richard Levin was able to uncover details of an artist’s style and oversee preparatory studies for important commissions. Levin’s advocacy for the arts also extended to the public sector. He is remembered and

respected for his tenure on the board of directors for multiple institutions: Nelson-Atkins Museum, Kansas City Art Institute, Kemper Museum and Truman Library. Property from the Claudia R. Luebbers Trust, Chicago, Illinois The Post War and Contemporary Art department is delighted to handle Property from the Estate of Mrs. Claudia Luebbers as a single owner session in the May sale. Mrs. Luebbers was an avid collector who impacted the Chicago art and philanthropic communities. Mrs. Luebbers enjoyed a career in banking where she rose through the ranks at Bank of America to vice president, from which she retired in the mid-1980s. She spent much of her time contributing to and serving on the boards of organizations such as the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; the Society of Contemporary Art; the Renaissance Society; the Woman’s Board of the Art Institute of Chicago; the Hyde Park Art Center; and the Chicago Art Salon. Mrs. Luebbers started the Contemporary Arts Council,

which just celebrated the opening of its 16th annual exhibition. As a global traveler, Mrs. Luebbers aspired to reach far off destinations and visit museums of the world’s greatest cities. Her collection took on a modern emphasis and is dominated by contemporary sculptures, paintings and drawings. Highlights of the collection include Jackson Pollock drawings, a mixedmedia image titled Night Crusade by Gilbert & George, a marble sculpture from Jenny Holzer’s survival series and many other unique works. Proceeds from the sale of the collection will benefit the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington. It is one of the world’s leading cancer research institutes.
