GRATEFUL FOR YOUR HEARTFELT KINDNESS AND SUPPORT.

THE FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS SINCERE APPRECIATION FOR THE WELL WISHES, CARDS, PHONE CALLS AND PRAYERS YOU HAVE SHOWN US DURING OUR TIME OF BEREAVEMENT.

We gather today to honor the remarkable life of Charles Nanton Sr., affectionately known to many of us as Dad, Grandpa, Charlie, Uncle Rabb, and Coach Nanton His journey through life was nothing short of extraordinary, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we remember him, let us also embrace the cherished memories of his beloved wife, Josephine Nanton, his only son, Charles Nanton Jr., who followed in his father's footsteps in law enforcement, his daughter-in-law Cheryl, and his grandchildren Lisa and Christopher, and a host of nieces and nephews, who brought him immense joy and pride.

Charles’ story began with his early days in the military Known as "Legs" for his remarkable speed and agility, he trained at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and mastered the art of paratrooping. He soared through the skies with precision, embodying the bravery and dedication that would define his life.

After his honorable discharge, Charles transitioned into law enforcement, joining Precinct 41 at 1001 Simmons Street in the Bronx It was here, in the toughest precinct of New York, that his resilience and dedication shone the brightest. During his time at the police academy, he graduated second in his class with an impressive score of 89, and it was at his graduation that he met the love of his life, Josephine Linton Their union was a testament to the power of love and partnership, shaping their lives in beautiful and profound ways.

Charles’ career flourished as he became a first-grade homicide detective, recognized for his sharp mind and unyielding determination In 1980, his exceptional abilities led him to Atlanta, Georgia, where he was the sole New York detective selected to investigate a series of murders. Working alongside some of the nation's finest, he displayed a relentless commitment to justice, driven by a deep sense of duty and compassion.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Charles had a creative spirit. He attended the Central School of Needle Trade in New York, becoming a skilled tailor. This artistic pursuit showcased his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to find beauty and craftsmanship in all aspects of life

In retirement, Charles’ dedication to service did not wane. He volunteered tirelessly for Malverne football teams, earning honors and recognition for his selfless contributions. His wisdom, strength, and love were the cornerstones of his family, guiding them through life's challenges and celebrations Even at the

age of 93, Charles continued to lead his family in celebrating Mother’s Day, demonstrating his enduring commitment to love and tradition

We also remember Josephine, who stood by his side with unwavering love and support. She was known for her sharp tongue and witty personality. The nieces and nephews often said that if you did something wrong and Josephine "sensitized" you, you would dream about it that night It was clear that Charlie, as she affectionately called him, appreciated her quick wit and fiery spirit, finding in her a perfect partner who could keep him on his toes and fill his life with laughter and love.

To his grandchildren Lisa and Christopher, Charles was not just a grandfather, but a pillar of strength and a source of endless stories and wisdom. He cherished their company and took pride in their achievements, imparting lessons that will continue to guide them throughout their lives. Cheryl, his daughter-in-law, was a cherished member of the family, supporting Charles and Josephine with unwavering love and dedication
