PRYING PYRAMIDS SUTD LEARNING CENTRE DESIGN STUDIO | 5 WEEKS
Located in the centre of a major intersection between Orchard road and the Art and Heritage district in Singapore, the project is a satellite learning centre for the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) that aims to improve circulation as well as establish a connection to the other educational institutes in the area. It is inspired by the concept of collaboative spaces, in-line with SUTD’s pedagogy.

An exhibition walkway The key driving factors to the design included encouraging circulation from Rendezvous Hotel side to MDIS side, where Dhoby Ghaut station was at. I noticed that the most pedestrians would use the path along The Cathay, which would otherwise be fine if not for the bottleneck along MDIS.
I therefore wanted my project to help move some of the circulation towards the seldom use stretch of land in the centre, easing up human traffic as well as to showcase the school’s works to the public.
The internal levels are designed to be clearly distinguished without the need for solid walls to separate spaces, so as to preserve the connection between them. The separate blocks are twisted both at the top and bottom so as to maintain a relationship with the surrounding institutes as well as to serve the public circulation

FLOW MEDITATION SPACE DESIGN STUDIO PROJECT 1 | 6 WEEKS
FLOW was formed through the harmony of wind and human circulation in ONE NORTH area, a quiet corner in Buona Vista, Singapore. The site is surrounded by natural vegetation, recreational facilities and a residential estate. Meditation process that often attunes one to his/her natural environment. Thus FLOW is a meditation space that aims to capture the prevailing wind flow of the area for natural ventilation as well as provide an alternative pathway for residents in their daily commute, to help them ease themselves after a long day.
The Process The main concept was circulation, both human and wind. Good ventilation and ability to capture wind flow are important qualities to have in a tropical climate, especially for buildings that do not run on air-conditioning.
The form was derived mainly through the juxtaposition of prevailing wind flow and optimised circulation pathways of the site. The final model involves two ‘wind tunnels’ from opposite ends intertwining at a point, forming the main meditation space.

TUBE HOUSE SUTD LEARNING CENTRE DESIGN STUDIO FINAL PROJECT | 5 DAYS
TUBE HOUSE was a five-day group project mainly focused on facade design. Our group decided to create an art gallery located in the busy streets of Chi Minh city, Vietnam. The site was facing a busy street, which meant high noise and low privacy. The facade was inspired by egg cartons used for soundproofing purposes, so as to minimise external noise pollution. The number of openings in the facade varied as well, to control the level of privacy between the street and each level. Inspired by Singaporean shophouses, the design also allows for natural lighting and ventilation to permeate the spaces, lowering the energy consumption of the building.

Air ventilation was a key consideration in the interior layout. The stair well acted as an air-well, and the floors were not extended entirely to the end to allow for air circulation through the entire building. Given the luxury of high ceilings on each level, the ceilings of the rooms were lowered so as to allow continous air-flow to the other end in case one the doors were closed.
