WHAT
PROGRAMS
do you offer?
Lethbridge Minor Softball Association offers programs for girls and boys ages 4 to 19 to participate in the sport of softball in Lethbridge. We have a house league for all age divisions where we teach fundamental softball skills. Players can begin to play softball at any age, and even if they’ve never played before, they will still learn those fundamental skills.
DO YOU OFFER A
competitive program?
Athletes who want to take Softball to the next level have the opportunity to try out for a travel provincial team. Practices start in April and run until mid July when provincials usually take place. The teams practice weekly and will go to 2 or 3 tournaments to prepare for provincials. It’s a great way for athletes to challenge themselves and learn more softball skills.
WHAT AGES CAN
play
softball with LMSA?
We recruit all ages, regardless of skill level. We start from ages four and five, all the way up to U19. Our greatest asset is that we teach fundamentals at all levels, so we don’t discriminate if you feel your skill level is not where you'd like, we welcome you to come out and try it. Even if you're new to the sport, come out and just start throwing the ball around, it's a great way to get started.
WHAT DOES IT
cost
to play softball?
One of the great things about our organization is that our costs are fairly low compared to other spring sports that happen at the same time of year. Our equipment costs are minimal and we have a huge parent volunteer base which helps keep our cost down. We are also partners with KidSport, Jumpstart and the City of Lethbridge Fee Assistance Program.
DO YOU OFFER
come-try-it events?
Yes! We offer come-try-it events, which are usually held in the spring. We also participate in SportFest, hosted by the Lethbridge Sport Council, which allows us to have an interactive booth and time in the turf area.
WHAT KIND OF
equipment is required?
The only equipment required to play softball is a glove and a helmet with a face mask. It’s very low cost and easy to obtain. The Lethbridge Minor Softball Association provides the bats and balls for all players.
WHAT KIND OF
coach training do you do?
All of the Lethbridge Minor Softball Association coaches get in-house training from the association, and our competitive coaches receive additional training through Softball Alberta.
WHEN DOES YOUR
season
start and end?
House league starts in late April and runs to the end of June. Each division has set days they play (M/W or T/Th) at the same time every week so parents can easily fit softball with their own schedule, knowing when their child will play. The season wraps up with a 1-day league tournament.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF
softball
for my child?
Softball allows you to get outside, get your body moving, exercise, and learn about teamwork. It’s a great social sport for both the players and parents. Softball is a lifelong sport which can be played recreationally or competitively well into your college years and as an adult. Many kids start out in fastball and transition into Slo-pitch later on.
WHAT IS THE
history
of Lethbridge Minor Softball Association?
Lethbridge Minor Softball Association has been around since the 1970s. Thanks to a strong parent volunteer group, we have consistently seen an increase in participation in softball in Lethbridge over the last 10 years. It’s always great to see new athletes coming out and enjoying the sport.
HOW CAN
Parents
get involved?
Lethbridge Minor Softball Association has opportunities for parents to come out to help and volunteer in different areas. We need volunteer scorekeeping, maintenance, assistant and head coaching, and more. Having parent volunteers allows us to keep our costs low, and the kids enjoy having the parents help out too.
