ompadour LOUNGE

SET

The Pompadour Lounge Set revises the Baroque style adapting it to the modern design necessities and norms. Baroque furniture is profusely ornamented and highly detailed, but nowadays’ clientele requires a more modern and sleek design. This design focuses not so much on the embellishment of the historical chair, but on the frame and dimensional aspect of it. The legs of the chairs were short, and the height of the seat was achieved thank to tall cushions. The Pompadour Lounge Set represents the Baroque style through its dimensions and shape, also mimicking the original cushion with a negative volume. The cushion is represented by a plastic and organic shape achieved by a molded plastic piece. This design communicates the memory of an historical period through shape and size, at the same time it delivers a minimal and contemporary look.

CONTACTLESS ROD

METAL FRAME The frame is composed by two parts finely welded together.

This type of joinery allows the poly cushion and the metal frame to be connected without direct contact of the two parts. The rod is embedded in cut-out sockets in both parts thanks to a silicone support.

WELDED JOINT The two components of the metal frame are finely welded together through a process called TIG welding. This technique produces a imperceptible seam which allows a continuous and sleek look.

CONTACT ROD This rod is the same as the first one, but in this type of joinery it simply locks the two adjacent parts together.

POLY CUSHION These two components are each molded as a whole piece. They are illustrated in parts for aesthetic purposes.

METAL ROD

SILICONE SUPPORT

Polypropylene (PP) will be used for the molded seat and back of the chair and stool. This material is chemical and temperature resistant. It is very sleek and it can deliver a matte or transparent/lucid finish which both offer a soft tactility as well as notable durability. The material is 100 percent recyclable.

Magnesium based alloy will be used for the frame of the chair. Researchers from North Carolina State University have developed a material using magnesium which is light like aluminum, but as strong as titanium alloys. This material has the highest strengthto-weight ratio known to mankind.
