“LETU IS A CHRIST-CENTERED INSTITUTION, SO WE TAKE THE SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT OF OUR STUDENTS SERIOUSLY. Spiritual formation is a holistic experience, which shapes the mind, body and spirit of each person. Through chapel services, life groups, local and global mission opportunities, dorm life, mentorship and more, our goal is to equip students to live their faith and share God’s redemptive story with the world.”– DR. PAT MAYS / CAMPUS PASTOR
At LETU, you’ll encounter a meaningfully hands-on faith focus and commitment to community. As you expect, life here involves enrichment through chapel services and small groups guided by a faculty or staff mentor. But not a day goes by that a story doesn’t emerge about a student who is partnering with a community ministry to tangibly share God’s love or coordinating with a missionary to tweak a design project that supports their work.

R E L AT I O N S H I P S B U I LT H E R E WHEN LETU ALUMNI ARE ASKED ABOUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE RELATIONAL? TO BE PERSONAL? Small class sizes with faculty who know their students by name—that’s how we operate at LeTourneau University. At LETU, students matter and relationships are the foundation of our thriving Christian community. It likely comes as no surprise then, that our alumni maintain contact with faculty for decades after they graduate. And high school students who visit our campus often remark about how “nice people are.”

The people of LETU do amazing things every single day, but the most amazing things that we build happen when two or more of us are gathered together. In faith. In creativity. In purpose.

ELIZABETH MAJOR: History-Political Science, ‘18 WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO LETU: During high school, I was educated using a liberal arts approach. As I searched for the right college, I understood the importance of finding professors who valued the same well-rounded education I received during my K-12 years. When I first visited LeTourneau University, I was looking for a college with professors who would challenge and help me, through building my critical and analytical thinking, providing me with necessary tools to apply in every area of study or work during and after college. After meeting with the Humanities and Social Sciences Department Chair, I knew the History-Political Science degree from LeTourneau University would give me that exact education. Today if I had to make the same decision, I would still choose LeTourneau University. FAVORITE LETU EXPERIENCE: Attending the IMPACT retreat was a blessing. I was given the opportunity to connect with fellow students who challenged me to view the world using a different perspective. The IMPACT retreat helped me form deep friendships, of which I still have today and will continue to grow.

CJ MAJOR: Professional Flight INTERESTS: Basketball, video games, airplanes WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO LETU: The two major factors that brought me to LETU were basketball and the flight program. During my senior year of high school, I was trying to figure out where I wanted to go to college. The only thing I knew was I wanted to play basketball and I wanted to fly. So in search for a place to play, I sent out my highlight tape to a bunch of different universities. Coach Miller wrote back and he said they’d be interested in having me on campus for a visit. Little did I know that LETU had one of the best flight programs in the nation. After my visit, I was convinced that LETU was the place for me. FAVORITE LETU EXPERIENCE: I have two favorite experiences here at LETU. The first being a part of the basketball team, and breaking countless team records this year. Playing with this group of guys has been the best basketball experience of my playing career, and I hope to have many more great experiences of playing. My other favorite experience was finally passing Primary Flight II Lab and getting my private pilot’s license. It felt really good to see all my hard work pay off. Not to mention that everybody was so happy for me. My teammates, family, peers–everybody seemed to be just as excited as I was.
“GRADUATE AS A LEADER IN A CAREER FIELD IN THE FASTEST-GROWING SEGMENT OF AVIATION TECHNOLOGY. The remotely piloted aircraft industry is expected to grow by $82 billion by 2025. The applications of an RPA degree are nearly endless; available jobs range from environmental research to videography and everything in between. LETU’s RPA program is the first of its kind in Texas and offers a 60-year legacy of excellence in aviation as its foundation.” – RUEDI SCHUBARTH / PROGRAM COORDINATOR, REMOTELY PILOTED AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS

She graduated enriched by the experience and surrounded by a community of friends that continue to challenge her to be a better person.” –JOEL DITTMER / LETU PARENT

FRANKLIN MAJOR: Mechanical Engineering INTERESTS: Leading worship, hanging out with friends, video games WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO LETU: I fell in love with LeTourneau because of the world-class faculty, incredible facilities and the genuineness of students. FAVORITE LETU EXPERIENCE: One time, I was sitting in my room studying with my door open, and I heard a ruckus coming down the hallway. A couple of guys from another dorm with nerf guns came running past, launching darts at everyone. After they passed, I heard them coming back, screaming. They all ran back past my door, being pursued by a guy on my floor who had a nerf axe, whacking them on the backs of their heads. Just another day at LeTourneau!

STUDENT DESIGN PROJECTS At LeTourneau University, our legacy as the Christian polytechnic university means our engineering programs are built around hands-on opportunities led by industry-experienced faculty.

EVA MAJOR: Nursing, ‘18 WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO LETU: I was led to choose LETU because I believed in the school’s mission of showing Jesus in every workplace and every nation, and I also believe that God has called me to be a nurse on mission. I knew that LETU would encourage spiritual and personal growth and be a place I could call home. FAVORITE LETU EXPERIENCE: There are so many LETU experiences I would consider my favorite, all the way from training for and running my first 5k with fellow nursing students to the first LETU Dance and every adventure in between. However, one moment I can confidently say that describes my LETU experience is going on a Spring Break missions trip freshman year. I decided to go on the Buckner VBS trip to Rio Grande City, TX. The trip was such a refreshing time of loving on children, developing new and deeper friendships, and learning to be flexible and seek God’s will when things did not go as we planned. I love the image that mission trips bring people together, who might never have met before, under one unified purpose. I’m thankful to have experienced it.

LEONARD MAJOR: Biblical Studies, ‘18 WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO LETU: About 10 years ago when I was in Ghana, I was talking to a missionary from the U.S. about my future college plans and she recommended LeTourneau University. At that time, I thought I was going to pursue aviation and she told me that LETU was one of the best aviation schools in the U.S., and that it was also solidly Christian. I came to LETU thinking that I was going to achieve my dreams of being a pilot, but God directed my path toward theology and biblical studies. I greatly enjoyed my studies, and I believe LETU’s undergraduate theology program is second to none. FAVORITE LETU EXPERIENCE: My favorite LETU experience was something of an everyday thing rather than one single moment. Closely engaging with my professors (or rather, my professors engaging with me), sharing our hearts and minds together for the love of Christ and understanding what it means to expound a biblical text for the life of the church and the world was simply precious and deeply fulfilling. My professors did their very best—academically and socially—to prepare me to teach and preach the Word at all times, all to the glory of God.

THE ROCKET MAN
REACHING FOR THE STARS “I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A BUILDER AND EXPERIMENTER. LeTourneau University’s mechanical engineering program gave me the ultimate set of knowledge and skills that enable me to build and experiment with as much of the world as possible. One of the highest points of my career with SpaceX was the first time we launched a rocket that I had been inside and helped put together. It’s amazing to know the work I had done in the previous months were pieces of the puzzle that ended up with a satellite high above the earth in orbit.” –IAN REED / SPACEX DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURABILITY ENGINEER

BIG DREAMS
EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS “AT LETU, I LEARNED TO NOT SETTLE. MY PROFESSORS ENCOURAGED ME THAT I SHOULD STRIVE FOR THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF EDUCATION I COULD AND THAT WOULD OPEN DOORS FOR ME. I’ve since been named Best Teaching Resident at St. Louis University and received the medical student teaching award three times during my residency. I’m now an OB/GYN and Director of Maternity Services at my practice. My professors were right when they told me I wouldn’t regret aiming to be the best I can be.” –DR. SHANNON TOEWS POTTER

AIR TAXI ON MISSION
SERVING THOSE IN NEED “I’M A PILOT AND MECHANIC WITH MISSION AVIATION FELLOWSHIP IN INDONESIA ON ONE OF MAF’S FLOAT PLANE BASES. I have the privilege of serving people in the remote villages along many of the Borneo rivers. Without the airplane, people would have to walk or ride boats, sometimes for days, through dense jungle to get to their destinations. With the airplane, it can take minutes. Sometimes, in the case of medical evacuations, this is the difference between life and death. LeTourneau University gave me both the technical aviation education that is critical to this kind of precise flying and the spiritual foundation to be able to serve in the midst of so many needs.” –BRAD HOPKINS / MISSIONARY PILOT

A CONTAGIOUS PROMISE
VALUING CHRISTIAN EDUCATION WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START PROMISE ACADEMY? “Promise is the fruit of many people’s hopes, dreams, plans and prayers. God brought me in when I saw that so many parents in my city had no realistic access to Christ-centered education. My experience with Christian education in an underserved area of New York City taught me that this was something worth pursuing for all families.” HOW DID LETU HELP YOU ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS? HOW DID LETU HELP YOU GROW AS A PERSON DURING YOUR TIME AS A STUDENT? “My time at LeTourneau was formative. In spite of changing academic focus three times, my professors supported and cheered me on to pursue whatever I was interesting in doing and to make decisions from a place of freedom, rather than mere pragmatism. Once I landed in my niche, I was affirmed, valued and guided toward experiences and resources that would build me up. I was encouraged to keep learning and caught my professors’ vision for the value of my life—to pursue service to Christ and His people as a whole person.” –SARAH CUMMING / FOUNDER OF PROMISE ACADEMY
