AVIATION MANAGEMENT
“Our program began in 1956 when our founder, R.G. LeTourneau, started an ‘on-the-job’ aviation training program. In the 60+ years since, our program has changed in significant ways. One thing, however, has not changed; personal integrity and professional excellence are the trademarks of our aviation students and graduates. As the only four-year, comprehensive aviation program in the state of Texas, we offer a breadth and depth of aviation degree programs that only a very few universities in the U.S. can match. But that doesn’t mean that we are too big to know and care about each student. Our faculty see their work here as a holy calling, a calling to mentor and train the next generation of aviation professionals. Every day, LETU aviation graduates serve God as pilots, aircraft mechanics, airline dispatchers, managers, engineers, missionaries and a host of other aviation jobs, claiming every workplace as a mission field. Let me invite you to consider my alma mater. Let us help you build your story.” – FRED RITCHEY, DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF AVIATION & AERONAUTICAL SCIENCE, ‘80
UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYST E M S Building upon our legacy of premier STEM education, LETU’s UAS program is the first of its kind in Texas. With pilot, technician and electronics concentrations, we’re preparing students to fly, maintain and develop new systems for unmanned aerial vehicles. Regardless of your area of interest, you’ll graduate equipped to make an impact in a rapidly expanding and versatile career field. Drones can be used in search-and-rescue, videography and agriculture, as well as the inspection of oil refineries, power lines and disaster sites. LETU aviation alumni work in the UAS field at companies like General Atomics, Textron Systems and xCraft.
LeTourneau University faculty member Ruedi Schubarth was among the first people in the nation to take a certification test as part of an FAA rule that allows companies to operate drones for business.

CURRENT ECONOMIC IMPACT STUDIES PREDICT that the field of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) will become an $82 billion industry by 2025 in the U.S. alone.

“AVIATION MAINTENANCE IS SOMETHING I CAN GET MY HANDS ON. I get to work in a hangar, take things apart and put them back together. For me, that’s a crucial part of aviation.” – ABBEY DAUGHERTY, AVIATION MAINTENANCE, ’15, MECHANIC, ATP FLIGHT SCHOOLS
OUR MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS ARE AS HANDS-ON AS IT GETS. Courses include powerplant electrical systems, avionics, aircraft composites and advanced aircraft gas turbine engines.
MISSION AV I AT I O N LeTourneau has a decades-long history of preparing pilots for mission work around the world. Our graduates deliver supplies to missionaries in the remote jungles of Borneo and Papua New Guinea. They bring hope to isolated peoples as they support the work of indigenous churches. They provide disaster relief and community development—and more. Our mission aviation program is informed by the preeminent mission aviation organizations, including ABWE Air, Aim Air, JAARS, Kingdom Air Corps, MAF, MARC, MMS and Ethnos360, who visit campus regularly, meeting with students and providing input into the mission aviation training program.
“WE BELIEVE IN ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN THE COLLEGE OF AVIATION. We want our students to go out and be able to have the skills to do the work to an excellent level. At the same time, we know there’s much more to the education of a person than just academics. My goal is to educate the whole person - the spiritual aspect, the emotional aspect, as well as the academic aspect of the person.” – SEAN FORTIER, ASSOCIATE DEAN, SCHOOL OF AVIATION & AERONAUTICAL SCIENCE; CHAIR & PROFESSOR, DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED AVIATION SCIENCES
“MY EXPERIENCE AT LETOURNEAU UNIVERSITY WAS A MAJOR COMPONENT of preparing me for serving in missionary aviation. Several of my professors and instructors had actively served in ministry overseas. Their desire to train and mobilize the next generation of missionary aviators was an encouragement to me.” –PETER BASTKE, ’93, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, MISSION AVIATION REPAIR CENTER (MARC)

“MY TIME AT LETOURNEAU WAS FOUNDATIONAL. I was blessed with significant input in my life by many different professors across multiple disciplines. They taught me far more than the skills my degree required; they taught me how to live a life of service and significance. I cannot think of a way in which my LeTourneau experience has not impacted my life and my work with Mission Aviation Fellowship.” – DAVE FYOCK, ‘83, PRESIDENT OF MAF INTERNATIONAL
STUDENTS HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO EXPERIENCE CROSS-CULTURAL MISSIONS FIRSTHAND during a mission aviation vision trip, as well as through internships.
PR OF E SS I O N A L F L I G H T The aviation industry is experiencing a shortage in many skilled areas, including pilots and managers. Our undergraduate degree in professional flight prepares you to fly for a corporation or airline as a professional pilot, creating a powerhouse program ready to propel you into leadership positions in the aviation industry. LETU graduates are heavily recruited, recognized for their excellence and integrity and often move into leadership roles as their careers continue. To help you get there, we also have partnerships with a number of regional airlines, allowing professional flight students to begin their careers while still in school. Qualifying students may be accepted into these programs as early as their freshman year. Few aviation programs offer an undergraduate degree in professional flight with a maintenance concentration. Here, you can combine the two and still complete the degree within four years. Looking to fly in the Armed Forces? We also offer a military concentration.
“AT LETOURNEAU, I LEARNED TO FLY WITH PRECISION AND TO WORK TOWARDS EXCELLENCE. In an industry where ‘good enough’ is the standard, my professors and instructors always pushed me to a greater understanding and better performance. My LETU training and my participation in competitive flying left me well prepared for my job, and I know that I have the skills and abilities to go wherever my career takes me next.” – CAMERON LARAMEE, MISSION AVIATION, FLIGHT CONCENTRATION, ’16, FIRST OFFICER AT JETBLUE AIRWAYS
