NURSING PSYCHOLOGY & COUNSELING @LeTourneau University
NURSING
“We’re focused on bringing students a high quality, hands-on learning opportunity. We have secured clinical affiliations with dozens of local health care facilities and organizations, allowing us to offer a superior clinical nursing experience to our students. That, along with our excellent NCLEX pass rate, is an important indicator that our nursing faculty and our university are dedicated to graduating exceptional nurses. We see nursing as a ministry, and we are dedicated to providing a Christ-centered learning environment where students will understand the illumination of their work by their faith.” –KIMBERLY QUIETT, RN, DNS, DEAN, SCHOOL OF NURSING
PSYCHOLOGY & COUNSELING
“With a foundation of Christian faith, the School of Psychology & Counseling emphasizes the principles of human dignity and compassionate care as we train students to aid in God’s redemptive work in individuals, families and communities. LeTourneau University is committed to a rich educational experience that contributes to the mission of God through the understanding of vocational calling. By providing compassionate care and building effective relationships, we are meeting some of the world’s greatest needs. Our programs prepare students to make a lasting, true difference as we live out a life worthy of the calling we have received.” – VICKI SHEAFER, PH.D. DEAN, SCHOOL OF PSYCHOLOGY & COUNSELING
NURSING The U.S. needs 15% more nurses through 2026. And the need for LeTourneau nursing graduates—of the highest integrity, quality, mission-mindedness and Christ-like compassion—is even more substantial. At LETU, you’ll benefit from small class sizes and superior clinical groups with individualized attention. Our students obtain more than 900 clinical hours, most of which are spent in a real health care environment with actual patients. Our on-campus lab facilities incorporate modern simulation equipment, and simulated scenarios take students through “real life” situations they may encounter in hospital or clinical settings. As a student, you will also have the opportunity to partner with faculty on research, join the Nurses Christian Fellowship and the Student Nurses Association and engage with the local and global community.
“THE BEST THINGS ABOUT BEING A NURSING STUDENT AT LETOURNEAU ARE THE QUALITY EDUCATION that I’m receiving that is grounded in the Word of God and having instructors who absolutely believe that nursing is a calling and not just a career. They model the compassion and empathy that God gives nurses to love people and serve them at their most vulnerable.” – LAURA CASE, NURSING MAJOR
“WE ARE HONORED TO BE ABLE TO TEACH NURSING within the framework of God’s Word using innovative methods, while pursuing excellence. Our students get the opportunity to serve others and learn what true Christ-like servant leadership should look like.” – LORI GREER, MSN, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF NURSING

“IN ALL OF MY CLASSES, WE LOOKED AT PSYCHOLOGY FROM A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE and saw how it specifically applied to the career paths we had chosen. During my time at LETU, I was able to pursue research as an undergraduate, which I really enjoyed. I presented my research at conferences, including the Southwestern Psychological Association Convention.”- ELIZABETH DUFFY, B.S. PSYCHOLOGY, ‘17

NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION Psychologists have been studying creativity for over a century, and while there is much debate on the topic, it is clear creativity is valuable, but difficult to define and measure. Supported by a $300,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, Dr. Vicki Sheafer recently partnered with Dr. Ben Caldwell, Associate Provost and Engineering Professor to investigate the connection between psychology’s concept of spontaneous flexibility and creativity in engineering design.

“UPON DETERMINING A ‘SECOND CAREER,’ I CHOSE LETOURNEAU UNIVERSITY on the basis of the strength of both the program and the faculty. Psychology is a compelling field, and the opportunity to study it from the perspective of Christian illumination was vitally important from my perspective. I have been given innumerable opportunities in the areas of classroom learning, independent research and interaction with compassionate, experienced and fervently-invested professors. I am exceedingly grateful for all I have received during my time here.” –HEATHER BANE, PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR, 4+1 TRACK
